View Full Version : Hey, Throw Me Somethin' Mister (NOLA)...
Head's up to all locals and this weekend's visitors....
I will be riding in the Krewe of Carrollton Mardi Gras parade this coming Sunday, Feb. 15. The parade rolls at 12:00 noon on Napoleon at Carondelet, turns left onto St. Charles Ave. and proceeds down St. Charles to Canal St.
I will be riding on Float 19, neutral ground (i.e. driver's) side, 3rd rider from the end. Yell, dance, act crazy, hold up a sign - if you get my attention I will throw plenty of stuff your way!
Have fun, y'all!
Happy Mardi Gras!!

you have definitely been Nola-ized. (the city, not the person).

we will be enjoying the (saint louis,mo) Soulard Mardi Gras 'Krewe of Barkus' Parade.

Glad y'all had fun at the Krewe of Carrollton parade yesterday, and I sure hope nobody got injured from the Float 19 bead dump that took place in front of The Columns! It was great seeing everyone out for the parade!
We had a great day to ride - the r@!n ended around 8 a.m. so we had a pleasant (dry & warm) day weather-wise, and we had a large and enthusiastic (and friendly) crowd for the entire route. The crowd on Canal St. was especially impressive - the largest I've seen in my 6 years of riding.

I'm only sorry I didn't live here in 1984 and get to experience the last World's Fair held in the U.S. Lots of my friends from here have told me it was quite an experience having a World's Fair running for 6 months in your own hometown!

Or a staple from a bagged bead string catches you in the eye and you spend most of Endymion sitting in the back of an ambulance with a scratched eyeball. I got a go cup, 6 strings of beads and the bag that hit me that year, and missed the parade to boot.

Yeah, a bag of beads.
The parade was in Mobile. I was taking pictures for a web site. I wasn't more than five feet from the float.
The guy who caught the bag, after it bounced off my face, said the rider took aim at me and was laughing after he beaned me.
The shot broke my glasses. Thank goodness I had the camera's strap on my wrist, or else it would had gone flying too.
I had received a black eye once and a split lip a couple of times in years past. But after this incident, it took a couple of weeks before the headaches & dizziness faded away.

OMG! Poor BD. lol, you've been abused. Let me at em.
As we were rolling through the lower Garden District yesterday, I spotted Kermit Ruffins and his family in the crowd - kinda toward the back, with a ladder for their little girl. He had on his trademark hat, and an apron (I guess he was bar-b-que-ing!) and when I yelled out "Hey Kermit!" he waved and then blew the first few well-known notes of the second line song on his trumpet for us. It was way cool.

That sucks Dag. I never understood people who ride in parades only to throw stuff so hard they can hurt people. Mistakes are one thing - I've accidentally hit kids in ladders when I thought their parents were watching and would catch it in front or over the kid, but I just toss the beads up for them to catch, rather than zing a fastball to them. I don't think I've ever hurt anyone, and certainly not intentionally....

Up in Mandeville a couple of years ago some really drunk float riders got towards the end of the parade and ran out of throws, so their brilliant solution was to unscrew the HOT light bulbs from the side of the float and throw those. The cops wound up pulling 2 of those geniuses off and carting them to jail after they hit a kid (dad holding him in his arms he was so small) in the face with one.

How do you think the cops knew which 2 idiots to pull off the float?
I would guess they just pulled the two drunkest!!!
Last year down here in Bay Saint Louis, a doctor in his early 40s fell off his float and was run over and killed ... he was drunk. He had 4 or 5 children and had just opened his own practice. Tragic.
I would guess they just pulled the two drunkest!!!

Three rules...no smoking on the float (for obvious reasons), wear your safety harness, and don't get completely wasted on the float (or before you get on).

How do you think the cops knew which 2 idiots to pull off the float?

I don't know, but cuts and bruises are not unheard-of if you get hit by some big beads (or a pack of beads) that you don't see coming!
I remember one year when Miss 2forthefest got clocked with a bag of beads and it cut her nose open....ahhhh, good times lol!

Those rules work well with our 2 basic rules for all things fun:
Nobody goes to the hospital
Nobody goes to jail
if your behavior could result in breaking one of these - rethink your behavior.
