Oh thank you for posting that!!! She was just incredible and such an old soul at 11. Look out Grace Potter!!
Just saw JJ Grey and Mofro in Detroit last weekend and it was truly one of my favorite shows this past year. Their music feeds my soul and is completely mesmerizing!

Same here, I made the wife get out of bed to watch it. She certainly isn't a shy little girl, is she? :p

That is the first thing that popped in my head when she started singing, Lis. She has soul to burn way beyond her years. If you are gonna share a song of JJ's and change it up with him right next to you, you better bring some soul.
Just saw these guys too at the Park West here in Chicago. I've been listening to them for about 5 years and love em. My little brother had just gotten out of Iraq and decided to come to the Chi to hang out with his big bro. That and the fact that his boy Shorty was opening the show. I've been bringing him to see Shorty at the Fest and other places for about 15 years or so. Since they are both about the same age, he has grown up on Shorty's stuff. We went to the show straight from O'Hare. We were a little disappointed at first because we only caught 2 songs from Shorty and OA, but after their set, Shorty and his crew came into the crowd. We told them that we were NOLA boys too and hung out with them for JJ and Mofro's whole first set. It was awesome talking music with them. Great guys. We had a blast. It was an awesome show.
Thanks for posting that, Innertube. Awesome way to start the day.

Just saw Galactic here in Chicago, Matthew. I grew up with Stanton. We were in the same grade in grammar school together at St Catherine of Siena in Metairie. He always takes care of me wherever I see them. He is such an awesome person. Never forgets where he came from. He got me and my crew 10 VIP passes and our own opera box at the Vic. It was a great show. Ben always blows up here because he has a ton of family that lives in Chicago. They were all in the other box on top of us. He was unreal that night. My favorite tune of the night was a smokin' Trampled Under Foot. No one plays Bonham like Stanton. I liked the Underdawgs, but wish Mofro would have been the opener. I'm a little jealous there. Have a great time.

Wow, it must be great to have that personal connection!!! I met Stanton briefly on a couple of different occasions, and when I told him I was a Jazzfester, he agreed with me in that there is nothing in the music world that can rival the magic of Fest.......
Looking forward to the show tonight, hope you have a great weekend, Matthew

Talk about multi-talented! I like her name . . . Almira Fawn. Her skirt is cute, too! :p

As I've said before, if I could be reincarnated, I would want to be Stanton if I couldn't be me again. The sheer joy in his face at all times while he is playing says it all. I've met him a few times and have been rendered almost speechless because I feel like a silly school girl with the "man crush" that I have on him. He is the most talented drummer I have ever seen, and my rule of thumb for any show is that I will always enjoy it if he is involved in the mix. The guy just exudes rhythm; I am sure he gets out of bed with a beat in his head and is never without one. Seems like a genuinely great guy too. Glad to hear that he is.

I was at that show also and Trampled under foot was my fav of the night too. I was a bit disappointed when I heard the underdogs were opening the show, I would have prefered Mofro or Shammar. I am not a huge fan of Galactic's last album but as it turns out my wife loved when Gift of gab came out to rap with the band.
One thing I noticed during the night was when they went into the new stuff and Gift of Gab came out all the all the young kids in the crowd were doing the hand in the air thing, attempting to thrust it to the beat of the music and they were all out of sync...
White kids got no rhythm.
WOW! She's incredible! Thanks for sharing.

Stanton is a drum god! I think one of my proudest moments was when my 20 year old daughter told me that Stanton is her favorite musician and she absolutely adores him. Yeah....we have girl-crushes on Stanton for sure! :)

Bet ya melted when he had his daughter on stage for that Midnite Distubers set at Fest last year, huh? I can't remember for sure, but I think she was wearing a Zigaboo shirt. Too cool.
PS: To illustrate my discomfort about the "man crush" thing, I waited in a short line to buy and have him sign a copy of his disc Emphasis (on Parenthesis) during breaks in a Stanton Moore Trio set at d.b.a. during Fest last year, as he had just released the disc. In order to encourage more sales they announced that Stanton would offer kisses to those who bought the disc. As if I didn't feel silly enough, I had to stand there while several fine ladies gushed over him, made small talk, and then made out with him while standing right in front me! When it was finally my turn, he asked me what I wanted him to write on the disc, and I was so embarrassed all I could manage was to mumble something like "Just sign it. You're great, man." He looked at me like I was deranged, and I just turned around and stumbled off the stage. I had a good laugh about it when I regained my composure, but I sure felt like an idiot at the time.

Yeah, his daughter was absolutely the cutest thing during that MD set at fest. I have a great pic of her on his shoulders at the end. Man, Stanton rocks my world! Are we there yet?
