Not sure how many folks around here enjoy the show, but the remainder of the Top Chef episodes to be aired on Bravo (starting next week) were shot in New Orleans. :D

I'm not by any means a reality TV show guy and my wife drives me crazy with the nonsense that most of them bring, but I'm addicted to Top Chef. My only gripe with it is the fact that my hometown has never been showcased. Not any more. I'm really looking forward to seeing what they come up with for the NOLA episodes.

Wednesdays are all about Top Chef in my House! We've been watching since season 1. I can't wait for the semi-finals & finale in New Orleans!! That was a great surprise.

Fabio has been my favorite all along, for his personality & professionalism, but his cooking has been inconsistant & safe. I like Stefan alot....Josea, not so much. Glad all that Leah drama is over!! We were glad to see her & Jamie go.:D Thought they both had delusions of grandeur.

So, as it stands...we're rooting for Carla!! :)
She's been a friendly competitor all along, and is now bringing her A-game.
Slow & steady wins the race......

I've been a fan for several years. I feel about Stefan like I did about Hung - just because you're the best doesn't mean I'm going to pull for you.

I've been a fan for several years. I feel about Stefan like I did about Hung - just because you're the best doesn't mean I'm going to pull for you.

Here's an excerpt from a blog by Anthony Boudain, and his thoughts on Hung:

"Hung, Hung, Hung. Clearly one of the most talented, fearless and creative of the lot. Shrimp was a wise, ballsy choice of ingredient -- and his team worked the way a kitchen should. I just don't understand why he feels compelled to play the bad guy. He need only look at his buddy Astro Boy from Season Two to see that talent is often not enough. Survival requires a measure of WISDOM. For a guy with technique as good as his -- as fast on his feet, as versatile and creative as he is -- he's not winning these challenges as often as he should. A little humility; a willingness to accommodate what people are likely to enjoy and appreciate, instead of pursuing that which honors only his own perceived genius, would be a good adjustment. It may have been good foam. But it was still foam. Get over it. Chances are, any experienced judge on "Top Chef" has been awash in foam, drowned in it and become bored by it for years. It's OVER. It's become a bad joke. A trope. A cliche. And it's very appearance on a dish, at this point, is likely to count as a point against when facing such jaded palates.Hung is a better cook I think, and much more versatile, and much less slavishly attached to the Church of Adria (1999 edition) than his wolverine-haired predecessor. But he need only look at the simple yet refined charms of the winning dish, his teammate Lia's olive oil poached shrimp (exactly the sort of dish that Ferran Adria likes to eat when off duty, by the way) to see a potentially fruitful avenue towards victory. Just the same -- from this episode, Hung still looks like the guy to beat. Of this talented and diverse group, the most likely candidate to beat Hung...is Hung. -- Anthony Bourdain"

Also, I loved Jacques Pepin, as a guest judge! What a gentleman. He added an important perspective during the judging. Too bad, they couldn't have him on regularly, instead of Gail or Toby!

Here's a link to an interview with Jacques regarding being a Guest Judge on TC:

There were reports of some former Top Chef contestants being seen around town last month and we were hoping that meant they were FINALLY filming a Top Chef: New Orleans series here, but maybe this season's finale will lead to that overdue production next season!

I thought last night's episode was great and I was very happy for Carla (my fave this season) that she did so well and that Jacques Pepin liked her meal. :D

It's a good show, Papa! Much better than Hell's Kitchen or any of the Food Network shows (except Iron Chef. I still like that one. ;) ).

But, Gordon Ramsey wins , hands down, for best insults in a cooking show.
He called a chef a Wombat recently, and I about died laughing.:D

I've seen it once and enjoyed it. And I agree with about Gordon. He is a champ at insults

Carla rocks!! How can you NOT cheer for someone who justifies her food to the judges by explaining how much "looooove" she put into it?

I work at Restaurant August where they wanted to film the final episodes but couldn't because our dining room has no privacy. So they took John Besh over to Commanders Palace to film the final episode. They all came in and Padma is so beautiful. And I know who wins! But I won't ruin it for y'all!

Wow, how cool! Yes, PLEASE don't give any hints as to who wins!!
I want to wait & see! Thanks :)

Padma was wearing a hot pink dress on last nights episode & looked the most beautiful I've ever seen her.

Oh that's great -- I have it on TIVO, but will have to watch after the weekend. I'm off to SunPeaks (ski resort close to Kamloops BC) for one of our corporate events -- yes it's work, but the setting will be magnificent.

Aww..I'm gonna miss Fabio!! :(
Although, his restaurant is only about an hour from here, so I could visit him there.:D Glad Jeff won the quickfire over Leah & Jamie. His food for the event looked scrumptious! Emeril was a great guest judge. Since he doesn't have his Live show anymore, maybe he can join the panel.
Can't wait for the finale..
Carla's gonna bring it home!!

I think I would've loved to eat any of the dishes from last night's episode, but that oyster stew that Carla made looked phenomenal. BTW, what's that big red building that they kept showing in the random city shots?

You said, "but his cooking has been inconsistant & safe" How do you know? Did you taste it?
Thats my biggest gripe with cooking shows- no tasting
Nevertheless I always enjoyed Emeril & Justin Wilson. Top Chefs has to much drama, & I can't stand to see those arrogant judges getting off on making people cry

Could you be speaking of Holy Name Cathedral between the universities of Loyola and Tulane? I saw it couple times last night. It's where my parents wed in 1951.

There's a pretty good explanation of the dishes last night on chef Tom's blog:

Ooh, nope not the one I was thinking of, but that is a super cool building. One of the not-music-related things I'm looking forward to the most is checking out the old architecture in the city.

The building I'm thinking of was (I think) a two story red building with really interesting white woodwork on the porch/balcony. Looked like it might be a market or perhaps a warehouse or something. I keep seeing it in the various documentaries and stuff I've been watching but haven't been able to figure out what it is. Sorry, I know that's not much to go on.... :o

Stephan should have never advanced past the previous round. He overcooked his fish and the other girl had a slightly watered down sauce.

how does that translate into bouncing the chick?

If the show is supposed to be about each individual contest and not your overall work, that was a mistake by the judges.

this from New York Magazine-

Top Chef Baldies Charm Our ‘Hot Half-Asian Chick’ Reporter at the Beatrice
2/19/09 at 11:29 AM Last night we were ordering drinks at the Beatrice around 3 a.m. when some bald British dude with a money clip butted into us, flashing a ten-dollar bill. We turned around to yell at him and did a double take as another trim, smiling baldie popped up next to him. The Brit had funny black-rimmed glasses and a pink dress shirt and told us we had "too-prominent teeth." His friend, in a white T-shirt, declared us a "hot half-Asian chick with big boobs; I tell it like it is.” It didn't take long to peg these two charmers as Toby Young and Stefan from Top Chef. Another clue: Stefan also wanted to know if we recognized him from "the show." We’re not sure whether we imagined him bragging about Santa Monica and saying he wouldn't move to New York if he had a million dollars.

Just as we were wondering what a judge was doing taking a contestant out on the town, we were beset by other recognizable faces from this season: Patrick, Richard, Jill, Jamie. Carla and Hosea were nowhere in sight. Then Ken Friedman of the Spotted Pig showed up in a bamboo-patterned hoodie, looking like he'd just gone snowboarding. Clearly they had all just come from the viewing party at Craftsteak. The late hour and confidentiality clauses prevented us from finding out much about the upcoming finale, but they’re staying at the Mandarin on 44th Street if you want to give it a shot.

Clearly the best Chefs were Ohio and Eat Mo.....well, there was Seefood's gumbo......and momofeviltwoforthefest's bread pudding.......and momofgoodtwoforthefest made something really yummy, what was that again?

Top Chef ain't got nothin' on our scrapping the bottom of the pot chefs....

It is awesome the Top Chefs cooked in the city that good eats never forgot!
