I was going to wait for a deal, but got caught up in the frenzy...

I booked the Holiday Inn FQ for the whole enchilada; 4/24-5/4. I got a nightly average rate of $140 (which is $100 more than last year, but we won't see that deal again). I thought that was a really good price, and I really like the location.

I've already saved enough walking around money for the vacation. The only expense I'm going to have to work on now is cash for parking.

WOO HOO! How many days??

Crawfish enchilada? Must be a pretty big one if you had to book a hotel for it. Need some help with that? I know how we're all trying to control portions and such, and I'm always happy to help do my part.

Over reported. According to the old timers, that kind of thing used to go on all the time. There's just cameras everywhere now, plus a hungry media eager to play up every little thing.

You going to the Bomber/Bulldog benefit match tonight?

And you're in Sydney. Not exactly football country. The game must be getting a lot of coverage. Pretty fair, since it was organized just a few days ago.

I appreciate it, Mark. I drive a lot while I'm at Jazzfest, but it might be cheaper to park at your studio & take cabs everywhere. I'll try to do the math.

Meanwhile, I'll be able to go to Rosetreefest this year. Save me a muffeletta or three!

Yes well Syd is really League and Union, but you would be surprised with the attention the AFL gets in Syd these days - I have quite a few AFL crazy friends and its seems to get more of a following each year. wether you can call it football or not..... well....

Your right about to cameras everywhere, and I shudder to think how the stupid Herald Sun have carried on about that gentle boot at the end.
I cant make it to the match tonight as I will be playing barman at my local cricket club, one for you one for me etc,but there are a couple of other charity events I am hoping to assist at,including a massive benifit concert at the MCG that the big boys are trying to put together as we speak.
We need to get more people educated about the great game.

Good. AFL rocks. They want to put a club in the western suburbs in a couple of years, and many think it's folly.

I do enjoy rugby too, but I haven't been exposed to enough of it to know the difference between League and Union.

Ever been to a Swans game? Remember Tony Lockett? What is he doing these days?

I have been to one game in my life it was Swans vs Roos about 14 years ago, if my memory serves me correct, there was some big thing with Paul Roos, 100th game or something, and it was raining and miserable and I hated every minute of it. Havent been again, and not planning too.

Hey Ozgal
Now that you mention the football thing my mates and I are astounded by the cheek of the Soccer people trying to rewrite history here in Australia and call soccer football after 100 years or so,as I gleefully point out to some soccer people the oldest continualy registered football club in the world is an Australian Rules Football club.
Just because the marketing manager of Soccer Australia want to reinvent the wheel,I see no reason why people should be told to change the way they have talked for many lifetimes.
I know the argument is that its called Football in some other parts of the world, but I dont care,I think its quite funny that it annoys the Soccer people, but I am a product of my enviroment.
But I must say in some instances I am not big on change I am 6 Foot tall and weigh 13 stone and still wouldnt have a clue what that is in metric measurements even though we got forced over on to them about 30 years ago.

You will love it.It is a pity that we dont have any of the suburban grounds left, they were realy good fun with lots of people standing up and carrying on.
Mind you the MCG is still very impressive and is an awsome sight when we have 100,000 people in there, the capacity did not realy go up all that much when they rebuilt half of it because of corporate boxes etc.

I have to agree with you on the soccer thing - ITS SOCCER already get over yourselves, and I will call it SOCCER till the day I die.

Its the same with anything really when they change things, I grew up supporting the Eastern Suburbs Roosters in the Rugby League - they are now know as Sydney Roosters and at one stage were Sydney City Roosters - Nope sorry they will always be Easts to me.

and what you were saying about not liking the change ( to metric system) here is the confusing thing for my generation (we grew up while things were still changing and people were using the new and old ways of measurement at the same time). I still wouldnt know what you were talking about if you said a baby was born weighing 3kg and only know baby size by pounds and ounces - which is odd when you think about it because I weigh myself in Kgs and have no idea what i weigh in pounds and ounces. and I know that I am
5 foot 2.5 inches tall, and which I only recently discovered is 159cm.

what are these poor confused kids going to be calling SOCCER if they are being told to call it FOOTBALL??? some hybrid name of the two - Footsoc maybe??

There was an effort here many years ago (although I don't remember by who or why) to convert to the metric system, in order to conform to the rest of the world. And as you know about us Americans, we don't care about conforming to the rest of the world. ;) So the initiative didn't get very far.

Your Right
Its like Docklands Stadium down here, its had some many different sponsors name over the years I honestly couldnt tell you what they want you to call it.
And with team names I cant believe it when they change them after generations, they changed North Mlebourne to the Kangaroos but that failed and they have changed back, and they changed Footscray to Western Bulldogs after 75 years to broaden their appeal some guru said but I dont remember seeing a huge spike in their membership at the time.
It even happens with suburbs near me,some parts of Brighton are very ritzy so now we have East Brighton,North Brighton,Brighton Beach,Brighton East with other areas morphing in to them much to the delight of the real estate people, one of my mates commented that they should build an Island in the Bay, near Brighton and call it Brighton West.

In England in some instances they are now beeing forced to change,I seem to remember a shopkeeper telling me that he was going to fined if he kept using his scales that were pounds and ounces, but he said he didnt give a shit he wasnt going to change or pay the fine.
I remember when I was at high school if the temp got over 100 we were somtimes allowed to go down the beach for a swim, thats why it has been so amazing to get several days recently over 110 which by cheating with my phone is 43.3 celsius.
