View Full Version : Swamp Tour
Does anyone have any suggestions on which swamp tour they think is best? I plan on taking one when I'm down there. Thanks.

My son and I booked a great trip through Cajun Encounters. We had to drive to Slidell but it only took us about 30 minutes. They do have a pick up option too. I think I paid under $50. The guides are very infomative and entertaining. www.cajunencounters.com
We also booked a haunted Quarter tour through them and really enjoyed that one too.
I went on one years ago. Cyrus with Lil Cajun Swamp Tours. He even does shrimpin outings. Very cool! I can't find the website right now...I'm at work. Boooooo Hisssss

If it rains, you'll feel like you're taking a swamp tour at the Fairgrounds.

We have tried three companies with the kids over the years.
Found this one our favorite. It is a bit of a drive from New Orleans but they will arrange pick ups from the hotels or houses.
Not only do you get the swamp tour and alligator feedings...you learn so much about the wetlands and eco systems of the gulf.

it's been a few years, but Greg and I did the Honey Island one and it was great.

Our Mini-krewe did this one last year and it was pretty cool. Our guide was very informative and quite a card! I would recommend this one.
Thanks for the suggestions. This will be my 17th Jazzfest and I have yet to do a swamp tour so this year it is a must.

YYR...knee deep in water two years ago on second Friday. Never forget watching Ellis Marsalis while the lightening flashed, thunder roared and the r**n pelted down and at the same time hearin' the gospel and blues tents just pumpin'!!

I've done Airboat Adventures 3 times and it's been beautiful. The guides are super cool and they picked us up at the hotel. The boats are small (6 person) so you can get in and out of the nooks and crannies of the swamp. Have fun!!

We've done swamp tours with both Honey Isand (twice) and Airboat Adventures (I got a 'thang' for da swamp!). The tours are completely different; it just depends on what kind of swamp experience you're looking for.
The Honey Island tour is a more 'peaceful' tour, you kind of glide in and out of the bayou and can sneak up on wildlife. The Airboat is a blast. It's fast and noisy (probably not very eco-friendly, though); it's a wild ride!
Both tours have stops where the alligators are used to being fed, so you get to see them up close and personal. Both tours also offered transportation to/from the hotel.

Try to stop at Restaurant des Familles in Crown Point on Barataria Blvd (I think). It is a great local restaurant with a menu that will knock your socks off. The onion had to be tied with string and held like balloons they were so light!
There is a big swamp tour business on the corner, but i've never taken that one. Among the locals there is quite a disagreement over the airboats. Many locals do not like the airboat business and think it is bad for the eco. I have done both types of tours, and I learned the most on a small slow boat tour.
