I just noticed on Jambase that the New Orleans Underdawgs are scheduled to play some place called "Rock and Roll Heaven" here in Toronto on Feb. 20th! According to the Dawg's website, the band features Willie Green, Elliott Cohn, Kenny Green, Shamar Allen, Mike Burkart, and Byron "Flea" Bernard, although I'm not sure if all of the above are on the road with the band.

Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your perspective), I won't be at the show. The GOOD news is that I'm heading off to Venice, Italy next month for the big Venetian Carnival (one more event to scratch off the bucket list!) and then off to Davos, Switzerland for a few days of skiing in the Alps. (Another one off the bucket list!)

Have Fun in Venice Man. Something about that city has special appeal to New Orleans lovers, although you have to substitute Vivaldi for the Brass Bands to get a music fix. Once inside the City...buy a multi day ticket for the water bus Vaperotti and use that system to get around instead of anything else offered. Venice is also great to explore on foot...especially away from the main tourist areas...which are all worthy of their popularity IMO. But you must understand walking almost anywhere is like navigating a labyrinth and that getting lost is not only to be expected regularly but to be enjoyed! Have a glass of Proseco for me.

Well, they probably heard that I was going to be out of town and made other plans.... :>) (Thanks for the research, Denise!)

uh... you know it's a Carnevale, not a carnival, right? ;) I always wanted to do the Casanova or Plague Doctor dress-up, but it seems a little too much here! btw - the "women" dressed up in the Carnevale costumes at San Marco are very often not she's - fair warning. Have a great trip, Ross. The Jewish Ghetto & the Dorsoduro are great exploring areas, and the vaporetto tip was spot on. The seas were rough on our trip & we missed out on Murano - good thing we knew a glass-blower in NOLA!

This is true - Venice was one of my favorite cities on the Heather Post-College European Tour. And getting lost in Venice was a highlight of the trip.

And that's not the Underdawgs lineup anymore. That's the original lineup. Strange.

That is weird. I've never been to that place, but it seems like a place for old 80's rock bands so I couldn't really see the fit. Regardless, Jambase has them listed as "New Orleans Underdawgs", so I just figured....

You will love Venice.
We were there last November and stayed out on the Island of Lido it was only a short Vapperoto trip away and it was cheaper to get a good hotel, and there was a beach there.I found that all the hotels were pretty exy in Venice.Take the boat trip over to Murano Island if you get a chance.a lot of the hotels have a boat that takes you to a specific glass place you get a free demo and then the hard sell, the sales guys didnt bother me too much, they probably correctly thought I was not the rich type.the island itself is worth a look nice village atmosphere.AS stated earlier walking everwhere in Venice is great, you get your map, guidebook and get lost, great fun.

Cheers

Thanks for all the great Venetian advice folks! I'm a bit of a Venetian mask freak, so I'm really looking forward to my adventure!

ooooh!!!! you're going to LOVE it!!! A word of warning....when you're in the Piazza San Marco...do NOT sit at the cafe that has the jazz band playing....like a dummy Sammy and I ordered a cappucino and a 7 up and it friggin cost the equivalent of $40 canadian!!! Get the coffee from another cafe 'to go' and then hover outside the cafe with the music...it's open air and the tables spill onto the piazza....I repeat do NOT sit at a table lol!
