But there's the mysterious New Orleans Social Club performing first weekend. That could include lots of Meters and Nevilles and more.
And there's also Soulive, which will likely include guest appearances by younger Nevilles, who are going to be on that band's new CD.

New Orleans Social Club:
Six weeks after Hurricane Katrina, a group of legendary musicians from New Orleans gathered in Austin, TX, to record SING ME BACK HOME. Over seven magical days and nights, THE NEW ORLEANS SOCIAL CLUB was born. The collection features performances by members of The Neville Brothers (Ivan, Cyril and Charles), The Meters (Leo Nocentelli and George Porter, Jr.), Raymond Weber & Henry Butler. They are joined by their friends and neighbors Irma Thomas, Marcia Ball, Dr. John, Willie Tee, Troy (Trombone Shorty) Andrews, the subdudes, the Mighty Chariots of Fire, Big Chief Monk Boudreaux and John Boutté.

I shoulda been more precise: The "mystery" is who out of this amazing lineup will show up at the Fairgrounds. Obviously, just cuz they are all on the CD or performing at Langerado is not a guarantee, but a very encouraging sign!

I have talked to Leo Nocentelli about the Meters at Jazz Fest, and I don't like to say they will not be playing this year. But it sure looks like it. They all have other projects going right now. They will all be there I believe this year, so how knows what will happen. Also they have played two years in a row, so I think that is just the coolest. Hopefully next year they'll be back together.

Hey Robbie,
Are you still taking lessons from Leo?
No, I haven't taken any lessons for a while. But, he is still an inspiration to me and we are friends and call each other on the phone every once in a while. He gives me some basic funk tips on playing that are real helpful.

I've given up hoping for a Fair Grounds appearance, but Superfly is yet to announce their Jazz Fest lineup...
So I'm still hoping for a Meters (or funky Meters) night show this year.
Hey! It could happen!! :)

Let's just say you never know what might happen. George Porter is in town, Zigaboo modeliste is on the list for the second weekend, and who knows ???? As was duly noted above, the Social Club is on the list too.
