I couldn't find a listing for him, either via Swag's Cube rescue or the Fest's searchable db.

I moved to NOLA in '80 and was a Zevon fan when I got here. I saw him several times in clubs here over the years, but never during jazzfest. His website has evidently been taken down, but I recall reading that he spent a considerable amount of time in the Lafayette area through the 1990s up until his sickness. It is possible that he sat in onstage with a swamp rock or even cajun band from the area, but I have never heard of him playing fest. I was listening to some of that anthology this week. I think he is one of the most underrated musicians of our time although he has his own demons to blame for it. I suppose you could say that about anyone to a degree. I wish he had been with us a while longer.

Thanks for the information.
I have been told that there is a very good Warren biography or Autobiography that is around at the moment and that it is meant to be good.

I've been a fan of Warren's music for many years. The biography was written by his ex-wife; it's a chronological collection of stories told by her and many of the people involved with WZ's life and career. It was fascinating but ugly and when finished it I sorta wished I hadn't read it.

It's also well worth checking out Warren Zevon's final appearance on Letterman, filmed a very short while before W.Z. passed on........
I am not a David Letterman fan, but Letterman was a huge fan of Warren Zevon, and gave him the entire hour to talk and reflect. Both Zevon and Letterman showed extreme class, and obviously shared a deep mutual respect for each other.
An incredibly touching moment in television.
RIP--Warren

Ahhhh! Warren, definitely one gone too soon. My husband and I were lucky enough to see him on Clearwater Beach (right on the beach), for a free concert many years ago. It was great.

I was at that concert too; when was it--mid '90s, around the 4th of July? I had started reading a Carl Hiaasen novel that weekend and in one scene a character listens to some Zevon. A few hours later I'm at the show and Warren introduces a song with a story about his buddy Carl Hiaasen's tales of Florida.
That night is mentioned in the WZ biography. Before the show Warren and Carl were in the lobby of their hotel on Clearwater Beach and Warren scanned the rack of tourism flyers, noting one for a Native American gambling facility in Tampa. Warren liked the sound of the name Seminole Bingo and he and Hiaasen co-wrote the song of the same name.

I believe it was probably the mid-90's. We lived in St. Pete at the time and there was a great radio station, 102.5 (?), that played a wide variety of music and I believe they are the ones who put the free shows on. The radio station obviously is still there, but not the same format. I am not sure if it was 4th of July or if they just had fireworks as part of the free concerts. We also saw Sonny Landreth there one time. The first time we ever saw the Subdudes was another concert, I believe also put on by 102.5, at some peir in Tampa. That was also the early to mid 90's. Didn't really know much about the subdudes before that, but quickly fell in love and have been loyal fans since.
