So I am coming to Jazz fest (1st weekend) and have heard that there are amazing after hours shows all around town. Where can I go to find out who is playing where after hours?

By "after hours" I assume you mean evening shows at the various bars and other venues around town, after the Fest during the day at the fairgrounds.

There will be grids put together by some fine folks from this bored who voluntarily dedicate a ton of time and effort creating and updating them.

There will also be listings on www.offbeat.com and www.wwoz.org.

And pollstar and myspace can also be searched for listings.

Lets be sure to warn newcomers that a nola start time dosent always mean thats what time the show is......

And remember to pace yourself... it's a marathon, not a sprint.

Enjoy... you're gonna love it!

Newbie, two of the biggest early-evening, nighttime concerts traditionally occur on the Monday following first weekend. If you can wait until Tuesday to leave (of course, great stuff continues everyday during the week), you will want to check out either "Instruments-a-Comin" (http://tipitinasfoundation.org/_data/global/images/Times_Pic_8_16_08.pdf) or "Piano Night" when details on these become available. And during the day on Monday, the Louisiana Music Factory is sure to have a series of in-store concerts....all these items will be listed at some point at jazzfestgrids.com, as mentioned.

If you want to get an idea of the types of shows that you'll find in the clubs, you can see the club grids for the last decade or so archived at http://jazzfest.swagland.com/cubes/index.html (use the links in the last column).
