THE RAFFLE IS LIVE!!

http://threadheadraffle.org

The list below is also updated to reflect the website.

Hello everyone! I'm done with all my birthday celebrating and ready to get back to work :) As promised, we're kicking off the 2009 Threadhead Raffle with the official donation page. I'll keep editing and adding to this list as new prizes are donated. Please feel free to pledge, post pix and talk about the awesome raffle prizes here.

For those who aren't familiar with the Threadhead Raffle, please take a look at last year's raffle at www.threadheadraffle.org for an idea of the types of prizes, how the ticket purchasing works, etc.

First, a little background. This will be the fourth annual Threadhead Raffle benefiting New Orleans charities. Like last year, half of the raffle proceeds will go to Fest 4 Kidz, described in the other stickied thread in this forum. F4K provides tickets, food money, and chaperones for local children to attend Jazz Fest. It is affiliated with Silence is Violence which provides instruments and music clinics to local kids as an inspiration and alternative in their lives.

Last year, NOMC asked that we donate to their affiliated group, New Orleans Musicians Assistance Fund, which helps local artists set up shows, etc. While certainly a wonderful charity, this year we've decided the other half of the raffle proceeds will benefit our very own Threadhead Records Foundation, a non-profit that will do much the same thing for Threadhead Records' artists -- provide advertising, help arrange shows, etc.

A big change we've been working on this year is obtaining a 501(c) charitable status so donations can be tax deductible. A Threadheads corporate organization has been formed and is seeking charitable status. If obtained, all donations from the time of organization will be tax deductible. Therefore, while we can't promise anything yet, we fully expect to have charitable status soon and will send donation receipts to donors for tax deductions when such status is obtained. This should help with soliciting prizes from other donors as well.

We're also working on streamlining the process and will have an online donation form available soon, perhaps mid-this week. Thanks as always to our fabulous technical team -- Ohio has already been hard at work helping us and Neen will be pitching in as well. And of course we'd be nowhere without CBH's graphics (but what Threadhead project would?) For those who pledge prizes before the form is available, we will ask you to fill it out when it comes online -- the hope is the info will be much more easily inputable into the spreadsheet and website, etc.

IBJamn has again graciously volunteered to collect prizes. Her mailing address will be provided to donors to ship their prizes. This year there will be a requirement that any prize winner having a prize shipped will have to pay for shipping in advance via paypal, but we are hoping to draw most prizes early this year so we can get a lot more handed out at the raffle party on the Monday between at IBJamn's house. Just an advanced notice -- for those looking to help with the raffle, prize distribution is an area in which help is invaluable!

Before the form is available, and at any time with questions about the raffle, please feel free to email my mommy and daddy, amy dot wallace dot potter at gmail dot com and jhjpotter at yahoo dot com

SO, let's kick it off!! Here's the final list of prizes for the 2009 Raffle!!

Way to light a fire under yo mama, Nat!!! ;)

Anyone wanting to ship prizes to me, email me at:
ibjamn50 AT yahoo DOT com & I'll send along my snail mail.

I have to donate an autographed copy of Alton Brown's "Feasting on Asphalt, The River Run". That explores wonderful eating establishments (and recipes) along the Mississippi River from New Orleans to Minnesota.

Thank you Rosetree! Yep, we learn a few more things about this raffle each year and after all your work on the shipping last year, we're definitely going to try to (1) reduce the number of items that need to be shipped by drawing and getting prizes organized early and (2) get rid of any costs by having shipping paid in advance.

Woo hoo on the prizes, I'll add em to the list now :) :)

Hey NolaNatalie!

Have you set the dates yet for a deadline for contributing raffle items, and for the drawing ?

nolanatalie
01-17-2009, 06:34 PM
I'll have to look back at last year's dates -- seems we didn't start ticket sales until sometime in March, so we'll be taking donations for at least a couple of months here.

As for the drawing, the thought is to do it the week before Fest, maybe save some of the big ticket prizes for drawing at the raffle party, but it was really just overwhelming last year, I think it took something like 6 hours to draw all the prizes live!

Hey Miss Natalie... you'll be a busy bee for the next few months!

A while ago I purchased some of Jolie's art on ebay which I intended for the raffle. My memory being what it is means that I have no idea what happened to it. Think I may have asked Jolie to just hang on to it until the raffle got started. In the meantime I'm waiting for inspiration for what else to donate.

Thanks so much for all the work your family does for the raffle. No wonder they're having another kid... they need the help!

Yes I still have Fleur De Lis.. was just waiting for you to tell me what to do with it. So there will be a Fleur De Lis made by Jolie, donated by Ozzie.

Also regarding shipping.. the piece I'm donating is rather heavy and if it's okay I will just keep it and donate shipping. Seems a little troublesome to everyone to bring it to Jenns ('specially if the winner is not present) and then possibly having to get it to someone else to ship??

Thanks everyone! I've added the new items :)

Jolie, that sounds fine on the shipping! I think we'll have drawn winners in advance so we'll know if the winner will be at the party for delivery if you're able to make it to that. Otherwise, just fine if you want to ship it directly. We've had people do that with big prizes like golf bags, etc.

I am plotting some local raffle ideas as I type so I will let your momma know soon, NolaNat.

Thought of a sampling of tshirts from selected New Orleans bars and clubs but then realized I would have to go to the bar to buy them. Are there any good bars or clubs in this town?

Also the water meters seem to be popular and I have a couple ideas along those lines.

I just sent Jenn a donation for the raffle. It's a signed copy of Buddy Guy's new album "Skin Deep". They put out a limited pressing (500) double album on vinyl. Buddy signed it along with the 9 year old guitar prodigy that played on the album.

I love Buddy, also. I just went to see him at his club last week for his annual January shows. He did not dissappoint. I also love that his new album is the first with 100% original material. Skin Deep is a really awsome song. I wish Obama would have had Buddy play that for the innaugaration concert, being a Chicago boy and all.

I'd like to donate a brand new, never been played Paul Reed Smith SE Custom guitar to the cause. Ironically, I won this beautiful guitar at a charitable raffle that supported the not-for-profit School of Rock in Baltimore. Pay it forward, I guess :)

I will let the organizers determine best use, i.e., to raffle it or to donate directly to Silence Is Violence as the 1st post on this thread states that they provide musical instruments to NOLA youth in need. Obviously, if a decision is made to donate directly the donation can be made in the name of JF Threadheads. If you decide to raffle it, cool, too.

As I am new to all of this, a couple of questions:
When do you need to have the guitar? I will be visiting NOLA next week for a short one day visit. Would it be possible to bring it to someone next week? Is that too early?

I believe there is some kind of party where the raffle goes down. Are there details for this year's party yet?

If these questions need to be taken off line, let me know.

One last thing -

Thanks to all those who make this charitable work happen in the name of live music lovers everywhere. Not to be corny/mushy/overly sentimental but to see efforts like this, the Threadhead Records and the Ms. Lena work come about as a result of a bunch of people who got together based on the best fest in the world is quite something. Rock on with your bad selves!

I'm sure Jenn (the receiver of raffle goods, who's home is the site of the Raffle Patry and who is in charge of our involvement with the music clinics) will be along shortly to verify but I'm guessing you can drop off the guitar to her whenever. I would think the guitar would definitely need to be in her hands anytime before 1st weekend if used for the raffle.

The Raffle Patry is tentatively scheduled for the Monday between weekends, I believe.

Yep, and with the great prize line up already, I'm sure they are :)

Truth be known, i'm sure many folks buy X amount of tickets based on their budget (except for Neen, who needs a raffle intervention ;) )
as long as there are some awesome and unique items, i'm sure there will be plenty of tickets sold. my favorite items are the ones people have made, or comes out of their private collection, or convince a business to donate.

this year for our christmas baskets for raffle (work charity project, i think more was spent on creating them than on the tickets sold. and while folks enjoyed what they won, maybe we could have gotten more to the families by having fewer baskets and spending the difference on their needs.

short version: dont be spending money just to buy an item to raffle. it might be better to spend the $$ on tickets.

Amy, please add a Delta Moon-Rosetree collaboration on some beaded glass jewelry to the list. I just got the most beautiful glass scraps from Mark to use for making some beaded jewelry. I'll let you know definitely what it will be once I sort the glass out. At minimum it will be a bracelet and at least 2 pendant necklaces.

I can't even begin to tell you how gorgeous this glass is. It sounds crazy, but broken is just as beautiful as the finished pieces. You can see the depth of the color on the broken edges and the pieces look like stained glass!

Amy, I had a chance to speak with a representative of the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and Foundation. They have generously donated three First Day Covers or Cachets for our raffle.

1. 1990 Jelly Roll Morton: “This is the most rare of all the Postal Cachets produced for Jazz Fest. Jelly Roll Morton is venerated as one of the best purveyors of both Ragtime and Jazz. The cachet features a classic photo of the pianist, .25 stamp with a steamboat, and the foil has ripples of blue, purple and green. Total Production 2000 Estimated Value: $500

2. 1992 Irma Thomas: The “Soul Queen of New Orleans.” The cachet features textured rich purple foil and luminescence silver foil for the Jazz Fest Logo. The postal cancellation features two 45 records and quarter notes. Total Production 2500 Estimated Value: $200

3. 1997 Sidney Bechet: This cachet features blue foil print, a clarinet cancellation and a pen & ink collage of Sydney Bechet. Total production 2500 Estimated Value $100

I am so proud that the Foundation recognizes the wonderful work the Threadheads are doing to promote New Orleans Music. They have many charities of their own and yet they are kind enough to donate to ours.

We should have a donor form up and running within the next week or so. We're trying to automate the process so donors can enter the prize info just the way they want it and we reduce the admin on our end a little bit. Many thanks to Ohio for all the hard work he is putting in on the tech side to get this working. Each year brings more prizes and a larger raffle so without the help of folks like Ohio, CBH, and Swag to evolve the behind the scenes part of conducting the raffle, we would be totally overwhelmed!! Thanks so much to the donors or both prizes and time for all your contributions!! This is getting very exciting again!!

Welcome Ladyleo...and thank you.

JHJpotter very well said. Thanks to everybody...what is the target this year on the raffle. Didn't someone say already?

That is an awesome donation, Michelle! Way to go! And welcome to the bored.

This year, I want to donate a package consisting of the award-winning CNY Jazz Orchestra's "Then, Now & Again" CD/DVD Collector's Set AND an autographed copy of "Jazz At The Dawn Of Its Second Century" by Gary Giddins, Peabody Award winning contributor to Ken Burns' "Jazz."

Should I go ahead and send it to Jenn now, or should I wait until the online submission form is up, or what?

I'd like to donate a brand new, never been played Paul Reed Smith SE Custom guitar to the cause. Ironically, I won this beautiful guitar at a charitable raffle that supported the not-for-profit School of Rock in Baltimore. Pay it forward, I guess :)

We just picked up, from Al the absolutely stunning PRS SE custom guitar. It's new, it's blue and I may be in love with it. I did a search online and it retails for $699 - $715.00.

Heya...Bry...didja all make it to Ponderosa Stomp last year? How was the HOB setting? Lookin' forward to Stompin' this year...Yeah, been to the HOB version two years now. Considering it's HOB, not bad. 3 stages- Main, Parish, Patio. Towards the end of the night when the bigger headliners start it gets typically HOB crowded, but the rest of the night is not bad at all.

Your BACK!!! Tell us about the cruise

Cruise was truly incredible! Some highlights:
1) a small group of us decided to have a 'sunrise party', stay up and watch the sun come up (with bloody marys, coffee & Baileys, Mimosas) and Larry McCray and Donald Kinsey (Kinsey Report) joined us with a guitar and played/sang 'Soulshine' just for us.
2) seeing a jam session with Tommy Castro, Anna Popovik, Kim Wilson and Trampled Under Foot (IBC winners) and others I cannot remember all on the stage at the same time
3) getting spoiled rotten by the staff on the most gorgeous ship ever
4) having Tommy Castro's girlfriend go nuts and buy ALL my Tommy Castro jewelry! LOL
5) the FOOD
6) Kim Wilson GETTING MARRIED on the ship with everyone on the ship as his wedding guests!

Too many other things to mention, but I am on overload from the great music, and having MAJOR withdrawal symptoms.

ATTENTION ALL DONORS!!!

Thank you so much for all the awesome donations that have already been pledged!! Once again it is hard to keep up with the generosity of the Threadhead nation once the ball starts rolling. This year, in an effort to improve our ability to keep up and streamline things a bit, Ohio has been working tirelessly to create an online Donor Form that will organize all the prize info just how we need it. Thanks Bry!!

We're finally ready to get it going, so if all donors could go to the follpwing website and complete the form for each prize you are donating, we would really appreciate it!! If you have mutiple lots of the same kind of prize, that counts as one prize, and there is a place to select how many lots of that prize you have.

Thanks again everyone!! Here's the link:

http://threadheads.org/Raffle09/item_submission.htm

When you submit the item, you should receive a confirmation email from ‘burst@emailmeform.com’. If you do not receive this, first check your spam folder to see if it was filtered there, that has already been happening. If it is not there either, please e-mail threadheadraffle<at>gmail<dot>com to notify us of the issue.

Hey y'all--I just added TWO Mini Feng Shui Packages.
I am a Certified Classical Feng Shui Consultant, and mainly I do Classical F.S. analysis of homes and businesses. This is a more targeted service. Following is my donation description:
"Accentuate the positive! Feng Shui for your Wardrobe.
Using your birthday, time and place of birth, I will provide a chart with your most helpful elements, the corresponding colors, shapes, patterns and materials. Utilize these to enhance and attract beneficial energy related to relationships, health and money."
To elaborate:
In Feng Shui we use what is known as the 5 Element theory. Each person (and home) has a different relationship to the 5 basic elements of Fire, Earth, Metal, Water and Wood. In most cases, some of these elements come up short and need a little support in your life to keep the balance. One way to achieve that is to welcome those elements in to your every day life through what you wear. I am offering a customized consultation complete with a handy personalized chart.

Here ya go, Mark. Looks like that can be accomplished by the user:

How to Automatically Fill In Online Forms (Autofill)

Tired of manually entering your name, address and other details into website forms? There is a better way - you can enter many common details into any online form with the click of a button using standard browser settings or simple, free tools.
Exactly how you do this will depend on your browser (and perhaps your personal preferences).
Mozilla Users

The Mozilla browser has a very good built-in form manager. See Using the Mozilla Form Manager (http://www.mediacollege.com/internet/browsers/mozilla/autofill.html) for details.
Internet Explorer Users

To remember usernames and passwords, see IE Autocomplete (http://www.mediacollege.com/microsoft/internet-explorer/autocomplete.html).
If you want to remember more than your name and password, unfortunately Internet Explorer does not currently have any decent form management options so you will need to download a third-party tool. The good news is that the Google Toolbar works very well, has a number of other excellent features, and is free and ridiculously easy to install. All you have to do is click the link below and then click "Download Toolbar". It installs itself automatically in just a couple of minutes. Once it's installed, a new set of tools appears in your Internet Explorer toolbar.
This tool comes under our "highly recommended" category.
Download the Google Toolbar (http://toolbar.google.com/) | How to Use the Google Autofill Function (http://www.mediacollege.com/internet/utilities/google/toolbar-autofill.html)

I tried to follow the directions given for Mozilla, and my tool tab doesn't have the drop down options that the instructions do?????

In the version of Firefox I'm using, you can enable the Forms feature from the 'Options...' link on the Tools menu.

In the Options popup, select the Privacy tab. Then check the box that says something like "Remember what I type in forms..." and hit OK.

Also, if ya just wanna use this feature for the raffle form ya might wanna turn it off and clear any saved data when you're done. Otherwise Firefox will remember almost everything you've typed in to it, or will type in to it, forever.

Turning it off is basically the same as turning it on, except you uncheck the "Remember what I type..." box and hit OK.

You can clear the saved data by selecting the 'Clear Private Data' link from the Tools menu, making sure that the Saved Forms box is checked in the popup before selecting 'Clear Private Data Now'.

2 Tickets to The Rads on Friday May 29th.

Also, they added in that they will reserve you a table if you wish to eat and have a seat. Hard to sit during the Rads but it is nice to have a home base and server if desired.
