Do you think U.S. Air will give the Hudson River Pilot a huge bonus?

I know that I had been on the plane, I'd be sending that crew a thank you card like every day for rest of my life.

That was astonishing well done and one of the greatest "feel good" outcomes of recent years.

I'm sure everyone flying today will pay attention to the safety warnings.

The pilot is from a small town in NoCal, Danville, CA., where my husband was born & raised. Been talking to relatives up there & he's definitely the talk of the town- Hometown Hero!

I'm still in awe! Especially considering the approach southbound along the Palisades & the west side of Manhattan.

When you read his history, fighter pilot, glider pilot, air safety investigator and expert, I don't think fate could have chosen a more qualified person to handle that situation

An a-freakin'-mazing sequence of circumstances and events that culminated in a plane crash where no one got seriously injured.
You have to believe in fate or karma or a higher power after seeing this.

BTW, that pilot is a hero. In a time when the term is bandied about too freely, that man's picture should be next to the word. He even walked up and down the aisle twice to make sure that everyone was safe. He was the last one off the plane.

Gotta Love New Yorkers!!

As the first ferry nudged up alongside, witnesses said, some passengers were able to leap onto the decks. Others were helped aboard by ferry crews. Soon, a small armada of police boats, fire boats, tugboats and Coast Guard craft converged on the scene, and some of them snubbed up to keep the jetliner afloat. Helicopters brought police divers, who also helped with the rescue efforts.

This does not help Steve's efforts to get me on a plane, though. :o

Birds over the Bronx bringing a plane down. I always knew the Bronx was tough (that's where my Dad's from)!! ;)

Anyone see Leno last night? He did a bit on this which was actually pretty funny, and being that the pilot was a hero and there were no casualties, I did not think it was in poor taste.

A couple of the lines I remember:

The plane actually could have landed at Newark Airport, but the passengers took a vote and opted to land in the river rather than in Newark.

The images of the passengers standing outside on the wing wearing their flotation devices were truly amazing... at least the passengers who had an extra $25 had flotation devices.

Yep, that's right, Chrissa. Before that it was just plain All-Agony (Allegheny)!:)

Used to fly to Cincy from Syracuse. The plane stopped in Rochester, Buffalo, Cleveland, OH, Akron, OH & finally CVG.
I once had a seat next to a teenage female who'd never flown before. Every single time the plane took off, she filled up one of those "discomfort bags" to the brim. I was about to lose my cookies, too!:D

You know what you call a good landing?

One that you can walk away from.

You know what you call a great landing?

One where you can re-use the aircraft.

------------------------------------------------

On a serious note: Sully done GREAT!

Mad props to a true professional.

Did anyone else pick up on the fact that the Airbus has a 'ditch switch'? What a great feature! Also, the crew was *very* smart not to open that rear emergency door... Yeah you right.

Okay, now that I've wiped the coffee off my screen. :D

Apparently, the Airbus is also built to float.

The US Airways Flt 1549 Airbus 320 after being completely removed from
the Hudson River on the New Jersey side in transit to a NTSB site.

These are pictures of the US Airways plane you probably have not seen.

Here's something you don't see everyday.....

When they took the plane out of the Hudson they ended up having to
detour through East Rutherford, NJ -
