Welcome to the Countdown 2009 thread!

This year we need a few more volunteers to keep this thread cooking all the way until the gates to heaven are opened.

I've got the "5"s like 95, 85, 75...etc

Ohio has taken the "3"s. Who else will pick a number?

Now you don't have to be an accomplished etch-a-sketcher...such as my alteregoish crunchy Fais-Do-Doers...aka The Soft Shell Boys...just join as best you can. You can find numbers and such at sites like this http://www.gifs.net/category/1/Alphabets/ .
But you don't have to be that fancy...just help us mark the days any way you can.

On top of my fives, I plan to reprise quite few of last years entries...frankly some of those was too much work to use jess once. Plus there will a new series of Threadhead Trading Cards at some point....

97 Days until the first day of fest. That's generally how it is computed.

For example, most people would consider Monday as coming two days after Saturday...not one. And on Christmas Eve it is considered ONE Shopping day before Christmas (not ZERO). That's the way we did it last year, BTW.

Or if you are used to programming date arithmetic, you can type the following program to verify this in visual basic, (which is available in MS Word, Excel or Access)

MSGBOX( (CDATE("24-APRIL-2009") - CDATE("17-JAN-2009") & " DAYS UNTIL JAZZ FEST")

or more generally

MSGBOX( (CDATE("24-APRIL-2009") - DATE() & " DAYS UNTIL JAZZ FEST")

This is usually computed using the whole "calendar" days.

Pretend you are using a one page per day calendar....you will still flip it 97 more times until we hit the day that Jazz Fest starts.

This is tutorial for Mariena or anyone else who want to posts picture in this thread or elsewhere

ON this site you post a picture always by pointing to existing picture somewhere else on the web, whether that picture is on a site where you uploaded the picture yourself or whether it is a site of "clip art" that other people created.

Once you have the web address for the picture you want to post, you can use the tool in the editor that this site provides ( look for the http://www.nojazzfest.com/chat/images/editor/insertimage.gif button), although depending on the browser you use, you may have to approve a request to use the tool before it will pop up a window that you then copy the name of the picture file into.

An easy to post pictures is to to type the "images tags" yourself. For example, the dancing number Saturn introduced us to are located at:

The "Eight" days will obviously now have a fan base that none of the rest of the days can match.

As I promised I am going to repost a few favorites from last year....this one, based on the Michalopoulos (http://www.michalopoulos.com/) Jazz Fest 2001 poster (http://www.art4now.com/store/catalog/products/Enlarged/original/JFP2001.jpg), was a lot of work and I think it turned out pretty good.

Thanks y'all! Well, I don't have fancy-schmancy software to animate the number like CBH, Ohio and The Soft Shell Boys. I also don't have an adorable baby like Amy . . . so I gots to use what low-tech stuff I does got - like our new kitteh, Deuce McCattister! :D

He did do rather well posing for the picture ('though you should see the outtakes), but it was a challenge keeping him from unarranging the bead numbers. It's also a challenge to keep him from biting the laptop cord and crashing the computer (grrr). :rolleyes:

Hey this is a celebration..not a competition! And as the designer of so many nifty Threadhead images, you have no keeping up to do.

This note is actually for anyone who wants to join in and doesn't do the graphic thing: jokes, stories and links are still welcome here. Even just a bump for your favorite number. Or a virtual cocktail or two.

I really enjoyed working on my part of last year's countdown but I am already having more fun this year. Clavicle, above the b00b....the neck is at the top left corner. The tat is not drawn on as a real one would be. A real one would be turned 90 degrees to the left.
