Freezing??? When did it get up to freezing? Too bad you aren't getting one of those landfill checks to cover the heating bill for the week.

Its tough weather in my line of work. Had a fire earlier this afternoon. It is quite a shock to the system to get reallly hot and then when the fire is put out you freeze. My buddy in San Diego say this is the warmest January he can recall. I like San Diego !

It just dropped below zero here. It isn't expected to be above zero for the next 36 hours or so. It's not forecast to get above freezing for at least the next seven days (end of the forecast period).

High/low today will be 36/14, and tomorrow should be 31/12!

Time to put out lots of extra bird feed since the ground will be frozen.

yeah, was sposed to head to FL tomorrow for my bday weekend but it's only going to be something like 60Degrees so we're bailing and gonna stay in STL and make Jada's corn and crawfish chowder... gonna trade my tix for a regional burningman gig in Austin, TX over Memorial Weekend instead. Seems like a good trade given the weather situation. There will be no toes in the sand in Tampa this weekend... :(

Yea, Jonny! An '82 Delta 88... thats some sled. I know you're glad the gas prices came down. A friend growing up had one about that vintage. We had some good times in that baby. Ah, The Staff Car.

Yeah, what's considered cold is alway relative. It is 5° here and not scheduled to get warmer than 10 above until sometime on Sunday. If I dare call this cold to my wife, she will immediately remind me that her hometown is currently 16 below and headed to a low tonight of maybe -25 (this is about 3 hr drive from here - where her 80 year old parents still going about their business - just gotta remember to plug in the car's engine warmer every night) Of course, if I ask her why she originally left North Pole, NY for our balmy climate, you can bet she will admit that place really is too #$%$$ cold.

This is the 1st time my piece of %$## car ('82 Delta 88) wouldn't start.i guess I should go out and jump it.While watching the news last night they reported that folks may think the battery is weak during the cold but it just needs to warm up a bit and they suggested putting on your headlights for a few minutes to warm the battery up. Dunno but I am less likely to work when I am frozen to the bone.

Any luck, did you get it started? Give me 100* F @ 100% humidity in Aug before what you guys are dealing with. Most years we never hit the 20s.

Yes, the temperature map this morning showed we've dropped 8 degrees from yesterday when it was -7. The Chicago Tribune has a running count on it's web page of how long we've been below 0. This is from seconds ago:

1 day, 9 hours, 15 minutes, 53 seconds since Chicago's temp dropped below 0

I saw it on a news site. And fo sho, the worst here will be over in 6 weeks... after that it is really really rare to get temps below 0 or snowfalls over a few inches. Hey, gotta look for the pot of gold out there.....

Meteorological Winter consists of the months of December, January and February in the Northern Hemisphere. It is based on the weather, not on the Earth's revolution around the sun. We use Astronomical Seasons as our official designations.

I guess it could be worse for some of us. From the USA Today:

"The cold set records Tuesday of 46 below zero in Glenwood, Minn., and minus 38 in Grand Forks, N.D. — seven degrees off the old record set in 1979, the National Weather Service said."

Now that is what I call NIPPLY...
