I have heard a lot of people complain about the House of Blues venue. Do the same complaints apply to the Parish?

Good question Saturn. I think someone has posted before that The Parish Room is smaller and not as crowded. Might stop by 1st Friday for Sonny.

Franti and Spearhead are playing Tips as well. I'm thinking that Sonny will prolly do a show @ Margaritaville.

PHEW! I had to switch my weekend from the first to the second and am going to miss Jon at that festival. I just said tonight to a friend of mine, but Jon lives in New Orleans, right....so I figure he'll show up somewhere during the second weekened....maybe even the HOB.
I love the HOB. I've seen two GREAT shows there - Delbert McClinton and John Fogerty. Doesn't get better than those two.
But I've never been in the Parish. Frankly, I don't care, if Jon C is there...so am I!

Ozzie, Press this to go to a very small and bouncing (dancing?) clip from 2004's ending jam. As you can see, Jon was there...along with Davell Crawford, Martha, Josh Paxton...all on the two back to back grands at the same time...Joe Krown is on the organ and Dr John was on Bass I believe. (You may have to play it twice to get it to load correctly)

Very cool! I would love to catch piano night, but since one has to choose, I'm an IAC kinda gal.

I have to check that out some year...I learned about Piano Night some time during the 90s (I think it was then held at Tips) on the train to Chicago back from Jazz Fest. A big fan described it to me and I couldn't wait to go someday. This was before I discovered the grids and the concept of the daze, usually went to a couple "official" evening concerts and in-stores but not much else. Anyway, when I finally got a chance to go...it seemed everything it had been billed to me back on the train...and more. But now I've heard so much about IAC here..plus the fact that Piano Night is now at the HORules...(how's Generations Hall doing?) we'll have to try it next time.
Last year's IAC:
Soul Project
Little Freddie King
Shannon McNally
Bonerama w/ Leo Nocentelli
Galactic
Donald Harrison and The T.I.P. Interns
Voice of the Wetlands
Troy Andrews and Orleans Ave.
Original Uptown All Stars
Rebirth Brass Band
Walter Wolfman Washington and The Roadmasters
Also, playing outside:
The Max
Stooges Brass Band
Hot 8
Sould Rebels
Walk of Fame Induction Ceremony:
Donald Harrison, Jr.
Joseph Monk Boudreaux and Bo Dollis

yayyyyyy!!! I can't wait :)
My highlight last year was seeing the kids play. Sometimes people give to charities or attend benefit shows and never get to appreciate the end product or see exactly who they are helping. Seeing these kids play with their mentors was the best. I got all teary eyed when the crowd started cheering them on and some of the kids couldn't help but smile from ear to ear. They ROCKED! I remember Ivan Neville turning awaying from his keys and he just stopped playing. Ivan was grinning big time. He just yelled, "Gawd Damn"! :) He was so amazed at the talent.

Tickets for all of the above named jazzfest shows as well as Ponderosa Stomp ( Wed., May 2, 5:30 til') go on sale Saturday 2/10 @10A CST. If you go on HOB website and register as a member, you will be able to buy tickets before that date. If you are coming in on the 26th, you should give serious thought to buying Buddy Guy tix ahead of time. Ticketmasturbator charges are usually about $8 apiece, FYI.
