Armstrong park looked great.....all the fountains are working, all the lights,
Satchmos statue was clean and looking good.....even the parking lots
had extra lighting for better security....
I think it was the Pin Stripe Brass Band that led a second line from
the main entrance right up to the Theater....
inside looked just as good....the sound was excellent up in
the balcony...
Irma Thomas was at her best, as was Marva Wright...
rest of the lineup ...
Preservation Hall Jazz Band
Phillip Manuel w/Michael Ward
Jeremy Davenport and Ingrid Lucia
Kermit
some excellent events for 2009 on the calendar for the Theater..
sunday is family day with a congo square drum circle!!!
and lots of free performances inside the Theater..
I was lucky to get in....when i went to get one they were all gone
a few days ago....i figured i would show up and possibly score one...

Nice to see the Mahailia back in business. The City had let it get pretty shabby before the thing, I can't find any news on the Saenger.

AMEN and LET'S HOPE!!! Better venues means higher end opportunities for shows/performances which should mean higher revenue for the city and the tourism industry.

I had other plans for the evening, but we drove down Rampart and the park looked great: well lit and clean. I am reading that the acoustics have been improved and if I was not attending Frankfest this evening I would have gone to the LPO show with Itzhak Pehrlman. See the link below for the current schedule of events at the Mahalia Jackson TOPA, which includes a "Club Swing" show the first weekend of jazzfest. I saw Etta James and B.B. King there during fest in 04. It should be a great place to hear music now that it has been restored. I can't wait for the Saenger to reopen, which is supposed to be sometime in 09.

Sounds like a great show in a beautiful setting. Very positive news. Hoping for some cool shows tween weekends or second weekend.

Hear, hear Dan. I am so missing the Saenger.
It's next on the list. The city will be making an announcement next week.
Armstrong Park and The Mahalia Jackson looked great though. Cheers and kudos for those that worked so hard to get it done. :)
