MIAMI (Reuters) - Prince let his music do the talking on Thursday when he faced the media at a news conference covering Sunday's Super Bowl halftime show.

The singer, clad in a tunic-style orange jump suit, eschewed questions about his Super set, instead launching into a pulsating three-song performance to preview what should be a high-energy break from the NFL championship game.

The pre-game entertainment will be provided by local pop singer Gloria Estefan and the acrobatic troupe Cirque du Soleil, while Billy Joel will sing the National Anthem .

"I think people have always recognized that (the Super Bowl) is a form of entertainment," said Joel, who like Prince has won six Grammys and is a member of the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame.

"It is the biggest television day of the year."

Last season's Super Bowl was again the top-rated U.S. telecast of the year, watched by 141 million in the United States, according to the NFL.

Around the world, 54 broadcasters will televise Sunday's game to 232 countries and territories in 33 languages.

Joel will become the first person to sing the National Anthem twice at a Super Bowl, previously doing the honors at Super Bowl XXIII also in Miami.

I saw Prince in the Superdome when I was in college and the ticket said Wear Something Purple. Yes, it was the Purple Rain tour.

I would love to see him again....all are welcome!!! :)

Chippie- I saw that tour too....I saw the Purple Rain movie about 30 times....my brother was in love with Prince, even did his hair like him and had posters all over his room. I loved Prince too....we drove our parents nuts with it. I knew he'd kick ass....wasn't the vibe wonderful with the crowd? I love Prince.

Yea Corona, that was so fantastic last night. They couldn't have picked a better person for last night than him. lol, I loved it when he did the kiss, Mwah! and then said, Count it. That was just badazz.

I have to chime in as I totally agree with everyone's comments above. Prince was awesome yesterday! Just loved it. I've been a fan of his since high school (over 20 years) and I had never seen him live until a few years ago. He did 2 shows at the Fillmore in SF over Valentine's Day weekend in 2004. My boyfriend took me to one of them. It goes down as one of the best live shows I have ever seen! :)

Prince was awesome. I'm really mixed on his work but have always felt he was a talent once he dumped the computer geenrated crap. Give him a guitar, a crack band, and let him rip and he's the next James Brown/Jimi Hendrix.

Billy Joel provided us with quite the bland national anthem. Why do they insist on such bland versions of that song. While it's not the best composition, there are plenty of singers who can bring chills by their renditions. Wayne Messmer for one.

Billy Joel has a new CD out and is going on tour...THAT'S why he did the anthem...it's all about who ya know..exposure, exposure, exposure....
