Carolina Beadhead
10-19-2006, 10:13 PM
I'm thinking that we need to do this again on the new board. Maybe it'll coax some of the new people coming along to jump in.
I'm Susan, forty-fourteen, married w/2 (grown) children, from Mooresville, NC - self-proclaimed center of the NASCAR world. I currently keep my almost 2 y/o granddaughter, Piper, during the day... It's the best job I've ever had! :D 2009 will be my 8th fest.
My board names comes from the fact that I'm a Terrance Simien fan (aka Beadheads). I'm also known as CBH.
Next?

We constantly look forward to our next festival when our friends will visit.

Bryan, 45 from Austin, TX. Have pathetically missed every threadhead meetup ever. Will reform that behavior as this board was instrumental in my return to Jazzfest in 2003. Have made every day of 04 and 05 and second weekend of 06 and will make every day of Jazzfest in the future. God bless and help New Orleans.

Wow, this is my first post on the new bored.
I am Dan 43 from Boston. Last year was my fifth fest and first as a threadhead. Must say it enhanced the JF experience 1000%. I have been all around the world playing hockey and playing Marine and NOLA is one of my most favorite places. Welcome to the new place, everyone whether you are a returnee or newbie.

Yikes...this was quick. It seems just a little while ago I was sittin' drinkin' in Montana's bar and, well, maybe it was the absinthe. I'm Pete, married, no kids, two beautiful hounds (Zelda and Tosh) and I'm a hick from the hills from outside melbourne, deep south oz. I manage a refugee settlement program in the southeast of my city, am tragically addicted to live music and like CBH I just love Terrance Simien. Next year is gonna be my first jazzfest but I sorta already feel a part of the family.

10-20-2006, 09:51 AM
I'm Dag, 50, divorced, fat, cynical and drunk in Mobile Alabama. 2007 will be Fest #12 for me. I'm lucky enough to live close enough to New Orleans to visit often. I like bloody marys, cold cold beer, spunky women, and horns. Lots and lots of horns. And I would like to eat acid on Saturday nights but I don't know where to find any.

10-20-2006, 09:56 AM
I'm Kurt, 44, married to my best friend now over 25 years with four kiddos (13,16,18,20) who all love the fest. I've been a lostcajun for too many years (grew up in Lafayette, Houma, and NOLA). I return to South Louisiana several times a year, and that includes Jazzfest. Strangely enough, I am a....pastor….yep, dats right. Some might think that this means I’m mean, judgmental, a guilt-tripper, and easily offended. Nope, none of the above. I work for someone who really didn’t like religious, uptight-people, in fact he would rather hang with people who probably would have been into Jazzfest. I have never thought that seeking God and enjoying Abita and Jazzfest are any kind of contradiction.

Hey I'm Amy, born and raised in New Orleans. I'm 41 and married to a husband who fell in love with the Fest a couple of years after I did. Our kids are 13, 15 and 19 and our dogs are insane. I think this will be my 12th Fest and I only wish I had discovered it sooner. I'm a CPA (yawn) but have no idea why. I am also honored to be the sister of the lovely and talented piscesgirl.
p.s. lostcajun I second your emotion....:p

I hope to float down into the fest in a big bubble.... you're out of the woods you're out of the dark you're out of the night... step into the sun step into the light... keep straight ahead for ....the most glorous place... on the face of the earth or the sky....

Hi all...I'm Jodie...hence the name jodied...I was a lurker on the old board for quite a while before becoming a full time threadhead...Do I have to put my age?...well I'm newly 32 and am from Moosehead Lake...Maine. I teach music to low income children and our favorite unit is always NEW ORLEANS. I've been festing for a few years but last year was the BEST! Keep Shaking....

Hi all. I'm Mark. I'm married to an earthbound Angel by the name of Chris. We've been married for 27 years. We've been attending French Quarter Festival every year since 2002, and this past JF was my first one. Chris had no interest in going, so she and some friends went to Alaska. Anyway, I kinda rolled my eyes whenever I heard someone say "spirit of the festival". I had a great time while I was there, but it wasn't until I got back home that I realized it was true. I'm hooked. See y'all at JF 2007. BTW...anyone coming to FQF 2007?
Hello new bored!
Hi, Frank here, 47, New Orleans resident, been going to Fest since 1998 and have only missed one day in the last 6 years. I keep telling myself I can quit anytime. Yeah, right.
I was once "missin' nola" and then "back in nola" so this time I think I'll just be "NOLA".
Calypsogirl
10-20-2006, 12:19 PM
I am Calypsogirl, 48, live in St. Louis. Unmarried, no kids, but do have a dog, but dog currently on loan to mom and missed very much. I just realized I was 48 a few weeks ago when someone reminded me that my 50th was just over a year away - funny how time flies! Festing since 1994 or 1995, missed a few years but back for good in 2000. Love NOLA, most kinds of music, can't have red drinks, am a true follower of he who sits on high, White Trash Jesus; miss my threadhead friends and hope desperately to be in NOLA on November 2nd. Need to find a good man before my tingly parts give it up for good, so some of y'all better just watch out! (Thinking of Barry in a speedo or Ms. Seabass in her finest does it for me, oddly enough. :D TMI? oh well, that's another problem for me!!! Die hard Cards fan (surprise....NOT), not afraid to like the Cubs (since they won't ever win anyway).

Hey there, no problem doing this again. It's such a pleasure to have these nice new digs! Anyway, I'm Kev, 42, single and from a small town in Rockland Cty, NY, about 25 miles north of NYC. I stumbled onto Fest through an old girlfriend back in 98. Lost the gf but kept coming back to the fest. Kept spreading the word and bringing friends and friends of friends. About 5 years ago the group was over 30. It has dwindled since, and despite my preaching, Katrina scared the rest away. In 06 it was just my gf at the time and myself. I'm lobbying hard again this year, but may actually end up coming solo. That is one of the wonders of this board. Without this, and all of the Theads, I would never dream of coming solo.
Anyway, enough about me, I'll stop hogging the platform and let someone else up!

Hi everybody!! I'm totally jazzed about the new bored! Anyway, I am Gail, I'm 38, obviously a Pisces, divorced mom of three, Cody - 15, Monica - 13, Jessica - 11. I split time during the week doing accounting work for two different companies. I am also the sister of Amylovesthefest. I have no idea what number fest this will be for me but who the heck cares as long as you're there!

You know what I love about this thread? We STILL learn new things about each other! So I'm Amy married to Jeff who will showing up on the board soon I'm sure, living in Montara, CA, a little town on the coast just south of San Francisco, we're from Bozeman, MT/Jackson, WY and will end up back there some day, I'm a corporate bankruptcy and commercial litigation attorney at a mega firm, just passed the NV bar so may be spending more time in Vegas . . . Oh, I'm 32 and Jeff's 27, we've been married for a year, this will be my 10th fest and Jeff's 5th. 3 cats, 1 dog.

I'm Blitzzzzz, aka Joe, 55, single and a University food service mgr. by day riding heard on 150 college students! I live in Ann Arbor, Michigan where in my spare time I am a Events producer and Blues Dj for NPR affiliated WEMU (89.1 or wemu.org) hosting the Big City Blues Cruise - Sundays from 3-6pm. Festing since 94, which has helped keep me sane, and kept me from being too cynical, though Mayor Hyatt is doing his best.

Hi! I'm Montana. It's where I live. Near Glacier Park. I have two beautiful girls, one 16, one 23, who's married to a great guy.
I work. I play. I love music and Jazzfest, NOLA, and the bayou. And the accordian. And dancing. And that's all I need. The ashtray, the remote control, the paddle game, this magazine and the chair. And I don't need one other thing...

Testing, testing, is this thing on? Okay, guess I'm in. Shaw a/k/a eat_mo or White Trash Jeebus, turning 40 in a couple weeks, and gonna celebrate it with a bunch of t-heads in NOLA. Native New Orleanian, now living in Tallahassee where I practice environmental law. No wifey, no kiddles, one wonderful girlfriend (Heidi) and two great hounds dogs (Boudreaux and Loretta). Been festing for over 20 years, have really enjoyed the last five or so Fests hanging with this krewe. Hope to see some of ya'll at SwampFest.
Bryan, way past 40, married to my childhood sweatheart & constant fest partner Patti, no kids two cats. Eat drink & smoke too much, but it's sooooo fun! 1st fest in '80, several since. And that's all I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one - I need this. The paddle game, and the chair, and the remote control, Jazzfest and the matches, for sure.

Barry here, just turned an uneventful 50, live in NYC with my better half Nancy, married just over 11 of the most wonderful years of my life. She introduced me to Fest in '95, been going ever since. She's a corporate meeting/event planner and travel manager, I'm an insurance broker. Well, when we're employed at least.
Love NOLA and everything that comes with it.
Can't wait to get down again, hopefully at Festgiving we'll be trading hugs!!! :)

I am a 51 year old sexy grandma, office manager for fundraising division of maj research university, my alma mater and where i've worked for 20 years~ I live w/ my dog Bear Bryant (ROLL TIDE) in a neat ole California bungalow, and when the air is just right, early in the morning, i can hear the Gibbons apes' vocalizations from the San Diego Zoo, nearby. I love music...music is my religion...tonight am going to see the Subdudes, whom i have just fallen in love with recently. For a Cali grrrl, i've traveled a lot in the South, hearing blues in every roadhouse, outhouse, chickenhouse i could find.
My friends call me "ditzy Einstein", cuz i'm really clever but extremely 'wide-eyed' about life. I LOVE to laugh...make me laugh and buy me a drink!!!

KeyWest Bruce
10-20-2006, 11:45 PM
I was formerly 'bigeasydude' in the old forum. While registering, I thought I'd change it to include my actual name and where I live. Then, I had second thoughts and tried to see if I could unsubscribe to that name, and go back to 'bigeaydude'...but when I entered my e-mail address, it said there was a name already using that....and so I guess I'll just stick with KeyWest Bruce. Decisions, decisions! Anyway, this forum is one of my favorite things online, and I enjoy reading all of the posts very much. I have been going to the fest almost every year since 1992, and went for the first time in 1982. I don't know how I skipped the years in between, but I was just starting to discover Key West, and eventually moved here. New Orleans is my favorite place; my spiritual home, and hopefully one day will be home. As it is, I try and go twice a year (of course for the Fest), and usually in the fall. Am going in 10 days, and I couldn't be happier. I am single, 55 years (young!) next month, and gay. I have always loved New Orleans, but with the tragic aftermath of the storm, and seeing how a city can fall, it made me appreciate this special place even more. This forum has helped me get through the rough days, and given me a lot of hope and enthusiasm that our beloved city will come back better than ever. I am so glad this forum has grown...and to be around others who know that there is nothing more incredible than Jazz Fest. I have tried to describe it to friends and acquaintances; but unless you've experienced it, you just don't realize. I feel privileged to be a part of the fest and hope to go for a long time to come!

10-20-2006, 11:49 PM
Hey y'all -- I'm VWGal, real name: Donna -- live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I'm one of the Canajun contigent, along with Corona and RossVegas (where is you Ross?), and the former Saturn and Saturnwreck -- I may never get used to your new names. I celebrated a birthday with a "0" on the end last year, and the first number was not a "4"....or a "3".....damn, where does the time go? I am single, love a cold tall GnT with lots of ice and have two daughters age 18 and 21 who have been tolerating their crazy mom for years. 2007 will be my fourth fest, my second patry and my first with a festal virgin! I have yet to show up at a Fest meet-up but I don't want to hand in my T-Head membership card, so no excuses next year. I work for the telephone company and put in way too many hours perfecting the branding of corporately sponsored events -- but every chance I get, I am an audience member in pursuit of uplifting live music. Oh, and I do own a fully restored and customized 1979 black and tan ragtop VW -- it's not a fast ride, but it's my version of the mid-life Harley. Woohooo to the new board!

RitaZero
10-21-2006, 05:15 PM
Hi! I'm RitaZero in Santa Cruz, CA. I'm a 49 year old single DeadHead who supports my JazzFest habit as a telecom analyst.
I've attended the last 7 JazzFests. I fell in love with New Orleans my first visit there in 2000 - the food, the charming people, the music music music any hour of the day or night. Each time I come home from JazzFest I leave with a smile on my face, dixie land jazz in my head, crawfish etoufette in my belly, and a wish to find a way to make a living half the year in California, and half the year in New Orleans in my heart.
Like everyone, I was horrified watching the aftermath of Katrina wreak havoc on our beloved New Orleans from far away in California. I was so moved I got trained by the Red Cross thinking I'd be sent to NOLA. By the time I was trained and deployed I got sent to Florida in response to hurricane Wilma. It was a great experience but....I want to do something for the city that has done so much for me.
While in NOLA for JazzFest 2006, I volunteered for 1/2 a day, basically picking up litter. The water line in the neighborhood I worked in was up to the door knobs. The spray painted x's still on every house, indicating the date the house had been searched, the organization that searched it, the number of people found in the house when searched-one quadrant for alive, one quadrant for dead. There was mud in the storm drains, street lights still not working. Trash was not being collected. This was so heart breaking 8 months after the storm.
Yet, I ate a lot of good food and saw a lot of good music while I was there! JazzFest survived Katrina!
In 2007 I will be staying for both weekends of JazzFest, and organizing some volunteer opportunities on the days between for ThreadHeads. Stay tuned for more info!

Alright, more like stealth and haste. My name is Tony, 37, enjoy bubble baths, fried chicken and pez dispensers.
Been posting on the old bored since 2003 under a couple aliases including the one above (also 17 & ohh).
Started going to JF in 1990 in college and haven't missed since. Go with a big krewe every year, core group of about 8, rent a house, etc. Haven't been to a t-head meeting, hope to make it by at some point. Musical tastes include: Galactic, KDTU, Dumpstaphunk, DDBB, Panic, 50 Cent (that's right, I'm That guy), Van Morrison, etc etc et al. Live in Music City. Thanks again to those that brought the heat on the new bored.

Hi, we're 2ForTheFest, Nanci 37, Nathan, 32
Nathan lives in Celebration, FL and works for Disney. I just left my job of 18 year in RI and will be joining him in a little over a week.
07 will be Nate's 11th Fest and my 5th. We're all booked but the flights!
And just like Corona we are planning more and more trips other than Fest down to NO for the same list of reasons. Good friends, great get togethers. See everyone on Nov. 2nd! :)

oddly enough, didn't find the jazzfest until 2000...somebody mentioned it to me in college...but i remember saying dismissively that i didn't like "jazz"...which is incorrect, BTW, i meant pat metheny...missed 2001, but never again...i been a live music fan since i was a rugrat and NOLA's got the best...grew up with my dad on piano, bros tom on trumpet and dolph on drums playin' dixieland jazz...and you know i was dancin'...it's my gym and my church...

Hoping to make next year my 5th fest and looking forward to meeting new friends at Miss Lena's and on this bored. ;)

My name is Corinne. I've been sober now for .......oh, sorry. Wrong meeting.
I was Caribbeansoul on the old board, but shortened it for the new board. It's easier that way.
I'm 40+ 1.....god, when did that happen? Stay at home mother of 2 baby souls; daughter 7, son 10. I am married to Mr. Soul, Greg, who I also refer to as my designated driver. ;} My greatest dream is to raise my baby souls to an age where I can leave them long enough to attend JazzFest from start to finish. Or bring them with me....whichever comes first!
'07 will be my 4th fest, mr. soul's 3rd. We are now lifers. No way we'll miss another.....ever! One of the proudest moments of my life was working at Ms. Lena's last year and meeting so many of the awesome folks on this board.
I'm so glad to have a new, fancy board that will hopefully filter out all the negative vibes we've been dealing with for the last several months. This board fills lots of hours for me and very often gives me laugh out loud moments.
Peace-

10-22-2006, 11:26 PM
Well now it's time for me to introduce myself. I'm Tom, 50 as of today. I'm married to Eileen who is a sometimes fest attendee and sometimes absentee. We'll celebrate our fifth anniversary 11/10. Staxsun derives from the name of the two great record labels from my hometown of Memphis - Stax and Sun. We have no children, unless you count a stuffed animal or two. I get paid for my work at the U.S. Postal Service, which enables me to spend time on my other interests. I host a radio show weekly on WEVL which is a New Orleans show - the New Orleans Big Beat. Previously I hosted a blues show (eight years) and a cajun and zydeco show (five years). Much of my other spare time is spent volunteering for music festivals and organizations. Also, I disc jockey for dance clubs. Sometimes I play drums and/or sing in bands, but I'm not that good. Among my achievements are that I'm a member of the National Boppers Hall of Fame and past National President of the National Association of Rhythm & Blues Disc Jockeys. Prior to working at the P.O. I was a nightclub DJ, managed a nightclub, worked in a couple of libraries and a liquor store, and delivered pizzas. I also worked for the city govt. in human services and managed a restaurant. I love Memphis, New Orleans, the south, people, history, trivia, football, maps, cooking, pinochle, travelling the U.S., and a plethora of types of music. I don't know if there's anything different there, but I tried.

Hey Staxsun, I also work for the postal service. I am a clerk here in Key West. Have been with it for over 13 years now. The cost of living down here is way too high...but thank goodness I can afford a couple of trips to New Orleans each year. I come back, and have to have some plan in the works for the next trip. That's what keeps me going. Went for fest this year, and am going again on Halloween day.....yes!!

Yep, Bruce, that makes you, me, and johnnygospeltent as clerks for USPS. The cost of living is relatively low in Memphis which makes our salary pretty decent here. I've got 19 years in, so I doubt I'm going anywhere, especially since I need the healthcare benefits. People don't realize that you and I and the folks in NY and CA make the same money. It would be hard to make it lots of places on our pay.

Well, spend a week in NO and look what happens to the board. I was at the Maple Leaf Tuesday night to see Rebirth and Vaughan's Thursday night to see Kermit Ruffins and His BBQ Swingers. Great shows. Interesting places. Had a wonderful fish house/ BBQ joint two blocks from where we worked in Gentilly and ate some awesome stuffed crab po' boys. Also, ate at Cafe Mespero on Decatur, shopped Lousiana Music Factory and found some great souvenirs for the kids. Too bad rain mucked up the Voice of the Wetlands Fest in Houma and made it a PITA to haul debris to the curb. Had a great week anyhow and got three homes gutted.
So, it's good to be back here. BTW, I'm Jeff, 37, from Chicago. Married w/ two little girls (5 and 7 and both wearing the Bayou Ballet and Cajun Critters t-shirts today).

If you have them saved online somewhere such as myspace or other places, if you insert a picture as a link to a url instead of as an attachment, then they show up larger. There is also a website that you can upload to that gives you a url for a thumbnail and a url for the original image at

Hi Threadheads,
I'm Linda; 47. Native Chicagoan now living in the Jersey Meadowlands and toiling by day in NYC.
2007 will be my 7th Jazzfest. 1st one I'll be attending both weekends because I want to live with few regrets going forward. I figure when I'm living the last days on my life will I wish that I worked more? Nah, lets spend more time doing the stuff that matters like hugging my friends and family, bitching about the Chicago Cubs, eating great food and listening to music.
I'll making a resolution. With the new board, I will lurk less and talk more. All of you have provided many laughs and smiles. The patry last year was the surprise highlight of my trip. My ex boyfriend enjoyed himself so much, he actually hit on me on our way back to the hotel last year :) (There's just some roads you travel just once!)

I believe I will be able to go this year. This time though I will be traveling for free. If I fly to Europe one more time I will have enough FF miles for a trip to anywhere in the United States. The thing about this job is they can call up today and tell me I am going to, say "Poland" tomorrow. Its hard to make plans for the future.

Wow, hi everybody! What a thread this is turning out to be! Richie, didn't know you were going to Bulgaria -- have a former co-worker who is from there and I asked him for tips but then thought that part of your trip wasn't happening so never followed up. Glad you enjoyed it! And way cool you can message via skype right here on this board??

Hello All,
I am Richie Hardin. Son of CBH. Not son of a b*tch like my screen name looks like. Though if you think I am just email the b*tch herself and just let her know. I am currently working for a Dutch company; Hadek. I am a quality inspector of power plants all around the world. My last stop was Bulgaria. I must recommend Bulgaria (esp Stara Zagora), it is fun and very cheap. 1/2 liter of beer .70Lev or 45 cents.
roflmao...Richie!!! It is you!! It's about time. Do you ever get on your myspace page? Glad you made it back from Bulgaria....your momma was worried mister!!! Stick around and play with us okay?

My ex boyfriend enjoyed himself so much, he actually hit on me on our way back to the hotel last year :) (There's just some roads you travel just once!)
hee hee...stick around girl and definitely lurk less!!!

Hello Threadheads!
New to this board, although I did lurk alot last year, but not new to the Fest.
2007 will be my 8th year in a row and this will be my wife's 16th in a row. We're in our 30's and live in Mobile. She'll never post here. She doesn't get the whole chat room thing. We've spent a lot of time in New Orleans and don't need much of an excuse to hop in the car and go. I mean it is only 2 hours away.
Nice new board btw!

Got registered yesterday, but I'm still recovering from a Hatteras trip last weekend and just now getting back here. Really like the new digs and it looks like all the usual suspects are skulking about :D
As some already know, my name is Ric. I'll be 50 in April (If I had known I was gonna live this long...). Occupation is bit-banger (ie Firmware Test Engineer if that means anything to anybody). As I said in the old thread, I've been lucky in love twice in my life and both times it was my sweetie Susan (Earthmother). We're gonna "jump the broom" next spring and we're expecting you all to be at the party. (Some people call it JazzFest) Gonna make an honest man/woman out of us and give legitimacy to our "canine out of wedlock", Max.

Addictions - Music, Speckled Trout fishing, computer graphics/illustration, and now, thanks to EM, if I don't go to LA every spring it's like Christmas didn't come. Missed last year :( and it was the longest 10 days of my life because I knew what we were missing. WILL NOT be making that mistake again. '07 will be my fifth. See ya there!

Matt, we take a bunch of scouts to Philmont every few years. This year, they are offering a new program in Datil, NM. Can't seem to get much info on Datil...can you tell me how high the mountains, water flow, fire hazards, etc? This is a totally wilderness experience navigating via GPS, no trails, etc. You can email me at sware@bipcoinc.com instead of posting here if you like. Thanks.

dumbtourist- datil is about 200 miles southwest of albuquerque. i think the elevation is somewhere around 7,300 ft so expect high altitude conditions. new mexico is basically the high desert. warm in the days and cold at night- especially now. we had an unsually wet summer so we are at moderate fire risks at most of the wilderness areas. i am not sure about what kind of water features there are there-no major rivers, some small streams mostly from mountain runoff. if you are going in the next few months dress warm- its at freezing temps in the evenings now. have the scouts drink plenty of fluids- we are a desert. enjoy the beauty- new mexico is a magical place.

Pete & I love to travel whenever possible but we love New Orleans and try to visit at least twice a year. We first traveled there in 1999 or 2000 and it felt like coming to the home we always wanted. The food, the sights, and the people are always so warm and welcoming. This will be our 4th fest and we are planning on coming for both weeks this year for the first time. We normally do 2nd weekend. We also plan on doing some volunteer work like we did last year for the regional food bank.

I'll get to work on it.

I know it's really hard to walk into the group for the first time. Just keep in mind that at any one meetup there are TONS of people who are there for their first time. Yes, some of us know each other now, but there was a time when we had to walk into that group as total "strangers" and say, "Hi, I'm _________! Who are you?"
And the board names become second nature after you've been on here awhile. I still call Shaw "Eat_Mo" when I see him. :D

It's okay Nipsey...it's normal to feel nervous and a bit dorky. I still do when there are new T-heads I havent met before. I just plow through the nervousness cuz it turns out being so fun meeting everyone, taking pics, and sharing a beer or a smoke. If there are few people you really want to hook up with, start asking where they are and people will point you in the right direction while introducing themselves at the same time. Makes it easier that way. Then you just keep moving around if there's a lull....it's cool :)

NeenAtlanta here - name is Jeanine and I live in Atlanta, GA with my husband. This year we're celebrating 24 years together.
I work at a software company that is involved with intelligent imagery (think satellites). My husband is a full-time musician, bassist, who is currently playing in a Zydeco band, Jump Blues band and Jazz standards band.
We have no kids - just one dog at the moment. Her name is Lorena (Lori) and she's a rhodesian ridgeback. It's one helluva great breed. We recently lost our male and will be getting a new pup soon.
I've been festing since around 1980. I'm a long time member of the Pet De Kat Krewe and have been around on the Threadhead board since the beginning.
Ya'll are an amazing group of people and I'm so glad to have met many of you. Hope to meet many more in 2007!!

Hi Nipsey, welcome to the bunch. Don't worry about the meetups at Ms Lena's, somebody named me Our Lady of Prepetual Introductions last year, so we will get you introduced to everybody just fine & it is rather a painless procedure.

Serously though, I wish I could. I think its about time for me to make a mid-life career change. I've been working too damn much.
I'd love to go back to gridding one of these years. But unfortunately, this is not the year.

Jeeez!! I go away from my computer for a day and were up by 4 pages!! Lis, sorry I wont be in NOLA when you are--dang! I'd love to meet yer gals.
I'm not back there until Nov. 14.
I WISH I could be in for Swampfest--there are some great bands in the line up. Any one who is going, do NOT miss the Pine Leaf Boys (featured on the cover of Offbeat this month). They tore it up at Festivals Acadiens 2 weekends ago....

Hey Nipsey (and other newbies)...just do it! Walk up to the meetup and ask for someone in particular whose screen name you recognize to get you started. It's so nice to have faces w/ the names.
If I recall from Frapper, aren't you from MO? St. Charles? Or am I thinking of someone else?

Murray, 48 and wife, Mary from Wilkes-Barre, PA. I'm an HR manager for a commercial real estate company, Mary is admin asst. for an insurance company. Went to New Orleans on business a few years ago and fell in love with the city... like the rest of y'all. Last year was our first fest but not our last. Between JF itself, Ingrid's, the in-stores, Los Lobos, the Maple Leaf, Liuzza's etc, etc, it was the most fun I've ever had. Got to the meet-up at Ms. Lena's just before the ra-n hit on Sunday, so didn't get a chance to meet but a few of you. We did meet some TH's at the Second Harvest volunteer on Thursday and at Ingrid's. Hoping to meet many more of you this year.

You must have me confused with someone else...I'm in Birmingham, the armpit of the south. But since I travel so much, I can stand it.

I don't think anyone will have a problem remembering Nipsey Russell...no matter how drunk we are!!! Just walk straight up to any group and say, "Hi everybody! I'm Nipsey Russell!" Without a doubt, at least one person will scream, "NIIIPSEEEY!" So have no fear, just come on out.

Cheers to All Jazz Fest Lovers!
I'm Michael aka Michelino and I reside in the nation's first boom-town: Rochester, NY with a wonderful and tolerant woman (who lurks here occasionally) and a couple of cats (one of which we named "Sazerac" 18 years ago! He also says "hello"). http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i193/Michelino/MySpace%20Bucket/Cats/eyesofsazerac.jpg
My wife and I are both big fans of New Orleans and have attended 7 jazz fests together starting in 1994. It should have been many more because we fell in love with the city about the time we were falling for each other more than 20 ago. At that time, we had a buddy who lived in the quarter and who kept telling us about jazz fest, pleading for us to come and stay with him...but we didn't listen. See we felt that New Orleans on any odd day of the week was so special, we didn't want to share it with any festival or bowl game or whatever. Our opinion has since changed. Because, sometime after our friend moved away, we attended our first fest...ever since I can only imagine the decades of other wonderful Jazz Fests that I missed.
Life is no longer complete without a trip to New Orleans every year or so. You know how it goes: our house is decorated with New Orleans knickknacks, Jazz Fest posters, and paintings from Jackson Square. We are both proof that a person can love a city and its culture as much as the dearest of relatives. And so it was when the "Thing" devastated the gulf, the wound reached into mine and my wife's own souls. But watching how so many people in the thread-head community and elsewhere were stirred to offer so much help and love has also made me believe that New Orleans will recover, albeit over a long time.
In any case, I'm always counting the days to our next visit to New Orleans and this board helps to pass the time and keep in touch with the NOLA and Jazz Fest scene.

I agree with the "don't miss the Pine Leaf Boys" sentiments. They were an unexpected highlight of the last Jazz fest for us. So much energy and so fresh that they ran out of songs! http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i193/Michelino/New%20Orleans%20Jazz%20and%20Heritage%20Festival/PineLeafBoysJPG.jpg
