Professor Nohair here,
I'll be down the middle Wednesday until Saturday morning chasing the groove the entire time.
Tenative schedule has me starting at Chaz fest and ending at the Bayou Rendezvous.
I can't wait. This year, I'm flying solo for ease of movement.

THis can't be that hard, right? ha anyways- My name is Jennie I am originally from Norfolk, Va but now am a military transport to the third coast- down in the middle (Central) region of Texas ((FORT HOOD)) area. Though I am no longer in the military I still miss it (Injured in line of duty- but don't worry I will try to get back in as soon as I heal) I love our country and what we are day to day. Life is hard- but if it were easy I think we would give up faster. I love a challenge.
I have never been to New Orleans but would love to come out for this year's JazzFest. I am trying to talk my brother Bill to come down from Maryland and then we can meet up and enjoy some music together. Well along with everyone else enjoying and hanging out too.
I used to do the shows and the concerts on the east coast. I have been to many Dead shows and Jazz concerts- I love live music. I remember seeing Dave Matthews at a bar in Winston- Salem, NC way way way back in the early days.
oh I think I have written too much- must be because this is much more interesting then doing my powerpoint slides for class on Tuesday- oh um.
So I am Jennie, I am a single mom of a ten year old boy, and I love life. Cause life is good. Smile~~ and the whole world smiles too!!
Hey Now and Welcome Jennie---- As someone who also rejoiced in the music and magic of the Grateful Dead, I can not recommend checking out Jazzfest highly enough......
You will feel like you have been in love with New Orleans your entire life!!!

Right down the road from me. I am north of Winchester on the West VA line.

I graduated JMU in 85. My dad was good friends with Mr. French. I think his name was Herb. Seems like his sons took over some time ago. I went to Stonewall Jackson, then HHS my Junior year and then graduated from TA. Small world indeed.

I used to live in Staunton from 1960-1966 (moved from NYC, what a kulcha shock, segregation, Bible classes in public schools, etc.. Great learning experience, was there for school integration which was peaceful & positive)
Last summer I visited for the first time since 1988, Staunton has faded while Harrisonburg has grown immensely.
Had the pleasure of visiting with a HS chum who I hadn't seen in 40 years. Also took the beautiful ride to Monterey. My late old man discovered this drive back in the day, & he really had an eye for scenery...gorgeous. Continued south & west past Falling Spring & New River Gorge in WVa... without a doubt some of the most beautiful country in the good ole USA. In fact I was thinking just that thought south of Monterey when a bald eagle flew off the creek, eye level, about 30 ft. away..... old man's spirit???????

YYR about the Burg's growth. Even the I-81 corridor in general has boomed. I have heard the Shenandoah Valley is the next Silicon Valley in the making. I agree that it is a beautiful place but the heat and humidity and lack of snow drove me out west to the Rockies

Hi Amy,
We are an hour south-east of Coeur d' Alene, around the lake.
Very close to the Montana border and 3 hours south of BC Canada.
My mom and 3 grand-kids and me were in the Tetons last year on the way back from Disneyland, we were stopping at different hot springs along the way.
Way, way Gorgeous down in your neighborhood.
I'm from The Bay Area, in Sonoma County originally.
Thank you for asking about me.

You're in a beautiful place too Tina! I was born in Spokane but the family is from Bozeman, Montana and moved back when I was a kid, so I'm familiar with much of the area. Jeff grew up in Jackson, Wyoming, but his family now lives in Bozeman, and we met at NOLA's in Palo Alto, California :) I was out in the Bay Area myself for 7 years before we came back here, closer to home, a couple of years ago. I highly recommend "Blues Traveling" by Steve Cheseborough. Lots of great information and maps for doing the Delta Blues touring thing. As much or as little as you want to do. Good historical information and a fairly comprehensive listing of sites and clubs.
http://www.amazon.com/Blues-Traveling-Holy-Sites-Delta/dp/1578066506
And, as with everything else surrounding the Robert Johnson legacy, there is some argument as to where the 'real' crossroads are located. Clarksdale has claimed the intersection of Hwys 61 and 49, but Rosedale, about 40 miles SW of there, is also cited as the location.

I STRONGLY recommend Sun Sudios tour. It still has the original acoustic tile (or whatever you call it) in the ceiling.... vibes are INTENSE.... you can just feel the vibes of Howlin Wolf, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee, Elvis, etc.
Stax also great. In fact I was taking notes from all the info on the walls, totally educational, also has a lil dance floor with an endless video of "Soul Train" dancing.
In fact Memphis is an amazingly historic & interesting town. Put Stax & Sun with all the New Orleans stuff, & you have a BIG chunk of America's music. Shouldn't miss the Civil Rights museum at the Lorraine Motel where Dr. King was killed (& several Stax hits written!), Rock& Blues Museum, Gibson guitar factory tour. I even went to America's only ornamental iron museum (an old trade of mine)
Didn't bother with Graceland...

Enough lurking! I had to join after already getting such great info here on this site. Thank you to all who have contributed.
Me? 29 years old, single w/ no kids, working for a Gvm't Agency and seeing/listening to as much music as I can.
This will be my first Jazz Fest after trying to get down there from Minneapolis for the past few years to no avail. My aunt is temporarily living there and offered a place to stay so I'd be a fool to pass that up. I am bringing 4 friends with me who have a pretty limited knowledge about the music and history of New Orleans (and JF in general), but have plenty of knowledge when it comes to having fun!
I'm looking forward to everyone's tips and suggestions over the next few months!

Hi all
My name is Barbra and I was raised in New Zealand, born in Australia, Sydney where I currently live with my constant companion Diane.
My baby son's father is a native of New Orleans and a Jazz musician there.
I was born in 1950 which makes me forever young and raised in an era of dance halls with big bands and radios playing Jazz.
Recently whilst doing my family tree for a College project I was gob smacked to find that my Great Granddad's momma was a Choctaw native of Allegheny, then further surprised to find my Great Grandfather John Hickman was also Choctaw 390. That explained my wander lust and golden brown skin!
This is my 1st Jazz Fest and I am volunteering on every day at the Grandstand as an Ambassador so please pop past and say G'day.

Hi everyone. I'm a newbie to NOLA and JazzFest. A friend told me I HAD to check out JazzFest so I took advantage of a free flight, booked a hotel on priceline, and went for it. I'm flying solo which I haven't done in a long time, so this is going to be one of those trips where I'm going to just let things happen. I followed the dead in college many moons ago and I love all kinds of music - especially blues. I come from a family of musicians and performers so it’s in my blood.
Reading these posts is amazing: everyone is so welcoming and all the JF chat is getting my blood pumping for an amazing time. I'm coming down on Wednesday afternoon (4/22) for the first weekend. I’m open to suggestions for Thursday activities.

Welcome FreeSpirit!! My little town of Lacombe (Bayou Lacombe) is rich with Choctaw culture, with about 300 tribal citizens currently. Feel free to join us here on the Wednesday 'tween for our Bayou Bash & Boil.

If you are looking for a true New Orleans experience for Thursday the 23rd, I would suggest the Brass Band Blowout at the Howling Wolf that night. Rebirth, Soul Rebels, Hot Eight, all in the same place at one time. It doesn't get any better than that.

Hi Everyone,
My name is Colin and I live in New Jersey. I am amazed by the threadhead community and this message board. It seems like there are a lot of really great people on here and there is so much great information. I hope I get to meet some of you at Fest this year.
My wife Lisa and I attended Jazz Fest in 2006 for the first time and had the time of our lives. We are returning this year with my sister Maryellen and are attending second weekend. We are all really looking forward to it. My sister has never been to NOLA before and I can’t wait to get her hooked on the greatest city in the world too. We are really looking forward to getting back to New Orleans and Jazz Fest.

We continue to hear from folks who first discovered New Orleans post-Katrina, and have fallen in love with The City. I don't know about you, but the storm and everything that has happened since is still in the back (maybe in the middle, or even towards the front) of my mind. It's been three and a half, almost four years, and many things will never be the same, but New Orleans is still able to entrance those who encounter her. That makes me happy. :)

Hi Voodoodaddy I look forward to catching up with you in Nola.Where abouts in Aus are you from?
Ozzie,Ozgal,Peteup,Flying Kiwi, etc FYI I emailed the Bulldog bar uptown today and and let them know that there may be a a group of Anzacs wishing to have a drink or 2 at their place on Anzac day, eve,We can do such from say 8pm or so onwards at whatever venue we end up choosing and therfore give time to people who wish to go to night shows. I let them know of the significance of the day and said that I had seen their excellent beer list and was sad that it did not have one Aus beer on there and that US brewed Fosters did not count.I asked them if they could get something in for us and that we would spend a bob or two,and beeing the smartass that I can be also mentioned that I new that some Australian beer was available wholesale in the States as we had purchased Coopers and VB for some functions when I was working in Salt Lake, anyway we will see what happens.

I'm from the Gold Coast. I'm travelling with my father-in-law. This whole madness started with us going down to Bluesfest each year and then we got carried away last year and did Jazz Fest as well! As a fairly lame concession to our wives and children (and our hip pockets) we're not doing Bluesfest this year which will be the first year in 5 or 6 years we haven't made it.
Having a VB or two in NOLA would be very cool.

And April 25 is Anzac Day to commemorate the anniversary of the Anzac landing.
It is a bit strange that we commemorate what was such a disaster.
The main sort of purpose of the day now,is to remember those that have seved in all Wars,as I think now that all of the Anzac vetrans may be gone.
It also is useful as a reminder of the futility of all Wars, and not to mention that when it falls on a working day,we get a national public holiday

Meetups at the fest every day at 1:45 behind the Zulu Diamond Cutters' Beer Tent (directly across from the Heritage Stage). Also, if you are at Liuzza's prior to the gates opening, there is usually a gathering of Threadheads across the street on the corner closest to the gate. Welcome back!

Hope you all had fun at FQ Fest. I was listening on OZ and watching on Muriel's cam. Looked very nice. I'm busy at work, but I can't wait to make it back to the city in May. My name is Kelli and I live in The Woodlands, Texas. This is my first fest experience and I will be going with my boyfriend who has been to the fest a few times. I've been reading the "threads" and can't wait to get there. We are going the 2nd weekend. Being that this is my first, it seems that there is just soooooo much going on - don't want to miss out on anything, so if you have any advice/suggestions please let me know.

Hi Kelli! Welcome!
Advice - remember to enjoy yourself. You won't/can't do everything, and will injure yourself trying (haha). Follow your ears on the fairgrounds and discover something new. And have fun!

I've been lurking for a couple of months( Steve). I'm getting very excited because this is my first NO Jazz Fest. We are set for 2nd Friday, Sat and Sun. I'm bringing my wife of 25 years, Cristy, and my 2 son's, Chris 24 and Tim 19. Wife and boys have never been to NOLA, but I've been a few times. I've checked the grids and have "penciled" in some of you all's recommendations.
I'm not that familiar with a lot/most of these bands, but we will have fun non the less. Looking forward to meeting everyone.

If it is your first fest, you will be hooked if not, well I gotta wonder but none the less you will have a great time if you let your ears lead your schedule.
Enjoy the best City for music, food and peeps.

I've been working non-stop for the past month. JF will be my first break. Have had little time to think about it, but have my flights and hotel.
Where/how are the meetups?
Hiya Katie,
From the bored:
Meetups at the fest every day at 1:45 behind the Zulu Diamond Cutters' Beer Tent (directly across from the Heritage Stage). Also, if you are at Liuzza's prior to the gates opening, there is usually a gathering of Threadheads across the street on the corner closest to the gate. Welcome back!
I'm from Southern Maryland (St. Mary's Co)...when you heading down?

Hi, I am Lisa Long time lurker. My first fest was in 1999, I was addicted instantly. Even though I had had an amazing time, Marcia at Jimmy’s, 2 full days of fest, dinner at Antoine’s, bloody Mary’s at the columns, I knew I had only scratched the surface of all Fest and New Orleans had to offer. Under the guise of an informed trip is a better trip, I began to do a little research. I came across the PDKK board and met this guy named Swag that seemed to know a little something about fest and he lived in the same city as me. We met and became friends. For the next 3 years it got better and better each year.
I knew I’d come back every year. That changed on 1/6/03 when I suffered a massive stroke and was told no more fest for me. In the years that followed, I vicariously fested through my good buddy Swag. In 2007 I returned to fest, it was still so magical. Sadly I missed 08 and contrary to what I thought up until the last minute, I missed 09, but plan to be back in 2010. Thank you all so much for the useful information, laughs, tears, and food porn. It has sustained me during the dark years. I am glad to relinquish my lurker status and can't wait to chat with ya’ll and meet you in person at fest 2010.

I've been to 1 NOLA jazzfest and 2 CFFs.
Hey, I know you, too.

Hi everyone. I signed up a few months ago but a technical snafu didn't allow me to post until Chris finally fixed the problem over the weekend. THANKS, CHRIS!!!
I wanted to do this long before fest started but better late than never.
I'm Robbie, which I assume you can tell from my moniker. 51, or soon to be anyway, married, some kids (all teenagers), some pets (both babies). Living on Long Island, NY. Work for the Associated Press for the past 26 years. Been an adorer of NOLA music since college. Other musical heroes outside of NOLA are Jerry Garcia, Lowell George, Keith Richards, Ry Cooder, Tom Waits, Jorma and Jack, among others who are too numerous to list in their entirety.
I also want to give a big shoutout to orleansnj who answered all my newbie questions leading up to fest and also for the greatness of her grids which was of immeasurable help in both the planning and anticipation of my trip.
Going over the "post your photos" page to post the link to mine. Hope you like them.

Hey everybody! My name is Barry Joe, I'm 50 and live in Austin, TX, with my girlfriend. My first Fest was '87 and have only missed 2 of them since, so I just know I must have partied with a few of ya'll over the years....I've known Freebo for years and he always speaks kindly of this forum and you threadheads in particular. Like most of you I find Jazzfest to be a magical and religious experience that I feel blessed to have been apart of....I'm a big Dead, Allman Brother, Little Feat (Lowell George in particular), and Meters fan....really looking forward to being more than a lurker....finally.....peace

OH HOLY SHIT!!!!! We were just talking about ZZQ the other day. Are they still doing the album rock? ZZQ was the soundtrack of my life until they just disappeared one night for about 30 secs, then came back as Miss 103.

Hello, all. Chazmo and Panther Girl, aka Charles and Heidi, in Oakland CA. Former PDKK poster. That board seems to have died way down, and I just started looking here. We went to JF 10 years in a row. I think the last time was 2005. Since then we have been going to French Quarter Fest for a variety of reasons. Can't wait to get back to New Orleans. Favorite clubs there: Donna's, Rock'n'Bowl, anywhere on Frenchmen Street.
P.S. I can't figure out how to load a picture in my profile.

Welcome, guys. We're just down the I-5 in LA LA Land.
I'll do my best on the picture loading (I know wiser people will be here soon ...). Size a picture down in something like Photobucket. In "User CP" go to "Edit Avatar", Custom and upload. Not too hard ..... only took me a year ;)

Hi Victrola! Welcome! Tell us about your festhistory and plans. Been to JazzFest before? Coming in 2010?
Thanks to Monica (Bluemon), my first year of Fest was 2003.
After that, I was a changed woman.
Been to both weekends ever since and all the Patrys except the first.
LOVE it!
Hope my husband Bobert and I will be there for 2010. He's been to many more Jazzfests than I. Once you start, you just can't stop.
The people who haven't been just don't have a clue.
We are Festafarians! (or is it Festifarians? not sure)

WOW!!!! THANKS!!! I remember when they changed their call letters from WJDX to WZZQ. Was it 102.5 ??? That station had a major influence in my taste of music today. They had to be one of the few that ever played Mountain Jam by the Allman Brother. Two complete sides of the Eat A Peach record. I wonder who the person is behind the Internet Station.

I finally got it. You have to link to a photo on a website. It does not give you the option to load a photo from your own computer hard drive. So, this photo is from the business side of me. I was going to use the one where I was wearing a pink flamingo hat while on the Catalina Ferry on the way to a party. Oh, well.
About 2010 - that is up in the air. Our 25th wedding anniversary is 4-27-2010, so Panthergirl may have something more exotic in mind. I'll have to ask her.
