Hi, my name is Jeff and I live in Baltimore, MD in winter and try to live in Bangor, ME during summer months. Have been going to JF since late 1990's. Exact dates seem to get fuzzy when you hit 60. Even stopped in Miami one year (JF 2000)to get a T-shirt from Steve. Had a good time at boil, but Steve wasn't there. Have been a reader (Delphi, PDKK and JF)for all this time. I usually go the second weekend, so Dr John playing 2nd for first time I remember is a big plus for me.
Welcome Jeff - sounds like you hung with the PDKK folks a bit at your past fests. Lots of them post here now too, so you should see some familiar names, even Miami Steve!

Wasn't that the year we did the boil at Patricks B&B on Esplanade. Of course, Mr. A was hiding out with Daph a lot that year.
How you been BTW babe?. And that big ol' bass playing hubby of yers. ;-))
And welcome to the new litter box, Jeff. You may have seen me floating around as Uncle Fester in earlier boards or on the grounds. Although, 2001 was my last year on the Fairgrounds after 12 straight years.

My name is Susan and I am a native of Chicago, Illinois (not a suburb of Chicago, but the real deal). I have always been a huge fan of New Orleans. I was married there and have returned several times, once for a four month stint immediately following Katrina providing food service relief. This led to my affinity for the music (always proclaimed that I hated jazz), but quickly turned my act around and grew a substantial appreciation for what I now call "real jazz." I studied up, did my homework, and now offer my marketing services to some of the local, uber-talented artists of the same.
I am currently working with Shamarr, so you may see a few shameless promotional plugs and calls to action for some help in getting the word our for whatever we are working on at the time. Judging by the posts I read, I am by far not the only fan or friend, so I know he has a solid base, here!
Thanks for the opportunity to introduce myself and I look forward to participating, here!

Hi all,
I'm Tina, approx. 50 years under my belt.
My husband, Jim and I have been up in North Idaho for 20+ years.
We are raising our grandson, James (15).
The three of us have planned a trip to Jazz Fest 2009.
We are arriving on 4/28, to enjoy the 2nd weekend.
We really do not know the ropes, although I have gleened tons of info from your site.
Thank you to ya'll, you seem like very loving beings.

Hey Steve LBI! Great to see you posting here. Joe is doing great - he has his own band now - Trailer Park Swingers, plus is playing with a jazz band, blues band and zydeco band.
That was the last year of the boil, wasn't it?

Welcome! This is an incredible group to know. If you happen to make it to a meet-up at the Fairgrounds, you will spend the rest of your time in New Orleans thinking you live in a small town and running into new friends here - there and everywhere. And even for an old, set-in-his ways curmudgeon like myself, this came as a refreshing addition to a place that I already loved.

I've been a lurker all this time.... although I know some of you and some of you know me, you do know my wife Chrissa, better known as Festivalgirl.
She has been around these parts for a long while. I've joined now to get in on all the fun. Though I'm not always short of words I may not be as active a commenter as she is. I hopefully can chime in there with the best of you.
I look forward to all the conversations about the Fest and everything else too.

Hey everybody, I've been lurking on this board for a bit now while working my way through swag's JF FAQ, making preparations for my wife and I to attend our first fest! At this point I feel like it's only right to join the board, say hello and give many, many thanks for all of the great info threadheads share. I've wanted to go to fest since I first heard about it in the early 90's and after hanging around here for a while, I think I'm already more excited about it than I should be with months still to go. Cheers!

Hi All - I thought I would I would introduce myself to this thread - Im Tiff - born and bred in Australia (yes the one with the Kangaroos) and am coming over to NOLA for my first ever Jazz Fest. My 3 fab friends I am coming with (also from the land down under) will be attending their 2nd JF (attended 08). I am extremely excited, and am constantly on the net (yep even during work hours) looking up things to do in and around NOLA. We are there for both weekends, and going on a road trip in between up to Nashville and then to Memphis to see a bit more of the country (will be my first time over to the states, although one of the girls Im coming with is taking her 8th trip over). Would love to get some tips on things to see and do on the way.

i think it helps coming to NOLA with a friend who has been there over 5 times and considers it her home away from home - altho i have never been there i already feel that way and know i am never going to want to leave - my other 'non jf loving best friends keep telling me to get to NOLA quickly cause i am driving them insane with my non stop talking about the fest and everything NOLA.
You're going to fit right in. Can't wait to meet you! :)

Welcome! If you need any suggestions for Memphis, let me Know. I'm hoping to be in N.O. in between weekends, but if I'm here, I'll even tourguide.

We are only in Memphis for one evening but would love to get some tips on a great place to eat and any bars you would recommend as a must see while we are there. We would definitely much prefer to do the 'locals recommended' bar then the usual 'tourist pit stop' that most out of towners go to.

Gards from Beaumaris in Melbourne, here grew up by the water like you.
This year will be my fourth visit to Jazzfest and I keep learning new things every time I go over. You will find out many interesting facts and figures from the friendly and helpfull people on this bored and probably some things that you dont realy need to know.
I am heading over on the 22nd of April and will be there for 2 weeks, look forward to catching up with you.If you want to hear some stuff about Jazzfest on the radio you can listen 3RRR on the net which I think is www.rrr.org.au between 9 and 12 on a Saturday morning,Brian Wise normaly mentions JazzFest as he has been many times and for the last few years has also led a tour party of Aussies to the fest and beyond he is also the founder of Rhythms Magazine and if you go to their website there should be a link to some of his blogs about his adventures at JazzFest and other music festivals in the States.
I travel a bit when I am working so if end up in Sydney over the next couple of months I will give you a yell.

Hey...hiya Ozgal! Another Aussie here...also from Melbourne like Gards (we keep bumpin' into each other from nyawlins to Byron). This is gonna be my second fest. I was like a kid in a toy shop at my first and am sooo looking forward to coming back. The music is incredible, the food is to die for, but it's the people of New Orleans who really make it the magic place that it is. Hope you love it!!

We head on the 22nd too - new V Australia flights direct to LA out of Brisbane - looking forward to travelling on swish new planes, especially for my first longhaul flight over 9 hours. i was meant to go over to the fest last year but unfortunately funds wise i just couldnt get there, but I am glad I waited now as this years line up is awesome.
we are in NOLA ten days in total - both weekends, and then road tripping in between, then I am off to Las Vegas. Cant wait!! I definitely know that I will be going back to NOLA anytime I can, as I am already in love with the place and havent even been there.
I will definitely check the radio station out on Saturday morning, and give the website a look now.
I am def finding very useful information on these forums and glad i came in for a look see.
PS. have you ever tried Gator? Im all for trying new stuff, and was thinking i would give it a try while i am there. does it taste anything like crocodile?

I am so happy to hear there are quite a few Aussie's here that make the effort to go over for such a great event. I know although this is my first its def not going to be my last. I would love to get to NOLA for Mardi Gras one year but thinking my obsession with the fest may prevent me from getting over more then once a year.
I am going to be a bit patriotic on the first weekend, and wear some Aussie gear on Anzac day - I know - daggy, but I cant help myself.
I am definitely looking forward to trying all the food.

I cant say that I have tried gator, might have give it a go this year. You will be delighted by the quality and variety of food available at the Fest.
RE Vegas I was there years ago and enjoyed it,all I would advise is go there early in the week and you should get a good deal on accom,im sure others can give you some advice but it may be a good place to try Priceline, which is explained in Swags extremely useful travel section.

My name is Jonesy. I am a 30 y/o music fan living in Atlanta. Nola is my favorite place to visit and I first visited in 1996 on my senior trip right after Jazz Fest. I bought the Pete Fountain poster in a shop on Royal for $85 (then it was all the money I had) and vowed to make sure and come back to see some music one day. My first music trip to Nola was one year later for Panic (hence Treetops user name) at UNO in 1997. I proceeded to never miss them for the next 5 years. My first Jazz Fest was in 1999 (still need that Prof Longhair poster) because Panic was playing and I was hooked. I have been to five since then and this year will be four in a row.
I am a music photographer on the side of my daily work and I love bringing my camera to the shows to try and grab a moment or two, although dancing is what I do most of the time. Stevie last year was a huge highlight of my Jazz Fest career. I am looking forward to another amazing year. Here is my favorite photos from last year (I almost got knocked out by the bouncer for not getting out of the way in time):

Those of us on Facebook have been pestered about writing our 25 random things... well, here's mine.
1. My dog understands me better than anyone else, including myself.
2. I had my first pomegranate when I was 10. It was an afternoon snack while watching the Three Stooges on channel 11. And to this day I wait in anxious anticipation for the first time I see them in the Produce section each Autumn.
3. People who think pets are dispensable shouldn't be allowed to have pets or children who want pets.
4. I have a love/hate relationship with my car.
5. I sooooooooooooooo married my father.
6. When I float down the river and take in all that is Nature, I settle in with the notion that there is something bigger and greater out there somewhere and that it's not all just a big coinkeedink. But, I think organized religion tends to divide humans instead of drawing us together. I often wonder which religion has it right: the Muslims, the Buddhists, the Christians, the Jews… is it really true that only one of those groups is going to get into Heaven? Really?
7. I still grieve the loss of my parents every day and miss them terribly. They were absolutely stellar.
8. I am an unapologetic flirt.
9. I take great joy in anticipating social events and I’m rarely disappointed as they usually turn out just like I thought they would.
10. I think every 16-year-old should have to get a job waiting tables. It teaches you how to distinguish good service from bad, how to have some empathy for the servers if the managers are idiots and how to tell the difference.
11. Without music I would wither away and die.
12. I quit smoking four years ago. I can't believe I ever smoked and to this day I feel bad about all that smoke I inadvertently blew in the faces of my non-smoker friends at the Venice Café. Sorry.
13. I like my feet. I love to go barefoot in the summer but I also have a significant collection of Dr. Scholl's sandals. It's an addiction really.
14. I'm passionate about horses and equestrian life. My life's dream that will undoubtedly go unfulfilled is to have a working horse ranch on thousands of acres. If I could ride a horse every day, I would. And, I love the smell of manure and sweaty horses.
15. I can't believe I work in a cubicle. But, I consider myself extremely fortunate to work with such quality people.
16. I am proud that I was named after the Frank Sinatra song Nancy with the Laughing Face and try to live my life emulating those lyrics.
17. I fear my "25 Random Things" won't be as clever or creative as Kali Su's or Theresa's (SLACKS).
18. I don't have tolerance for intolerant people.
19. I'm the youngest of 10 children and evened it up---there were five boys and four girls before I was born. I like being the youngest in the clan. And, contrary to what my siblings might say, I don't think I was any more spoiled than any of 'em. But my parents did like me best. So there.
20. As a child I was keenly aware of my imagination and used to pray to God that He not let me lose my imagination as I got older. I like to think He heard that prayer.
21. My husband has the patience of Job…and a great set of biceps.
22. I have a vanity plate on my car. And while I'm not a fan of vanity plates, per se, I had to do it. It says "CLS-2ND" as in "close second" and is based on something my Mom told my brother just days before she passed away. She told him that out of everyone in the family she believed that she had had the most fun in her life but that "Nancy is running a close second." So I put that plate on my car as a reminder to always have fun. Now you know…
23. I have not eaten honeydew melon since I was nine. That was what I was eating when I was told that my first pet, a cat named Poquito, was dead. Just can't do it.
24. Given the choice, hands-down, I would choose camping in the outdoors near a stream over a five star hotel.
25. I will not play poker because my face gives it away every single time. Don’t ask me to play. I won't.

Waker
My name is the Waker
And I'm bringin' you the morning sun
I've pushed the old man up forever
Still I feel I've just begun
I've just begun
My name is treetop
And I'm higher than you'll ever be
I'm married to my roots here
Still I feel like I am free
Feelin' I'm free
My name is blue sky
And I'm bluer than all of you
I've watched you run around forever
Always searching for something new
There's nothing new
Feelin' I'm free
I've just begun
I'm always young
Love's always new

Just wondering if anyone can recommend a good Car Hire place in NOLA - picking up from in or around French Quarter.
there seem to be alot around, but not sure what places to hire from are good, or to be avoided - any suggestions would be good.
thx Ozgal

I've rented a couple of times from Budget @ 1317 Canal Street, a couple of blocks outside the Quarter. Location code on budget.com is MY3. Never had a problem. Other than that, you'll find some of the majors car rental companies have locations in some of the downtown hotels. Any brand name rental company should be fine.

An Anzac Day gathering seems very sensible. as we will all be a long way from home.Allthough a couple of years ago I went and visited some of the WW1 battle areas in France and when you read the stats on how many people died in a single hour in places it is very sad,it makes you aware of the futility of war,and how strange it must have been for my GrandFather and his generation to go half way round the world for what they thought was going to be a big adventure only to sit in a trench or whatever for months on end and go mad or be gassed.
We can only hope that eventualy all people will learn from past mistakes.
I think I now need to go and have something to put me in a happier frame of mind,as I seem to be down tonight.
Cheers

I'm not a beer drinker, but we sure sling a lot of Fosters at Ms Lenas!
Thanks for the reminder about Rosemary, I'll get on to Ibjamn and figure out how I can get a whole bunch to hand out. Cheers.
When I was first in the states the Fosters used to be made in Canada and was ok,its dropped off a bit recently but it still better than MGD or Miller Light which was from memory was the only thing available on the last day and a half last year which I found hard to handle, apart from the pilsner behind the blues tent but that is hard to transport.I have heard some reports that we may have more beer options this year and am hoping that they are correct.Anyway I have put on the excellent I Believe To My Soul Compilation on my stereo featuring many Nola faves and I am feeling more positive allready.
Cheers

thanks for the heads up with the beers. I have been told to avoid the Miller light before - I think I may just stick to anything that resembles or comes even nearly close to a hurricane if they run out of fosters.
I have made a compilation of JF 09 songs that I listen to every day to and from work, and it always makes me feel better.

Hey Ozgal, there's a local brew called Abita's...it'll make you forget VB and Fosters real quick! Better to go easy on the drinks at the fest, save your energy for the clubs at night. All the old hands on the bored will remind you it's a marathon, not a sprint!
Also....hehehehehehehe.... steer well clear of dba on Frenchmen, it'll wreck your liver. The Belgian beers are just bloody marvellous, and then there's the wide array of single malts....oh dear....hic

oh, dont worry i have already been warned about it being a marathon. tip i have been told - a hurricane should last you at least a few hours even on a big night out because they are lethal (have heard the stories about 1 too many and loosing the entire night - and by one too many I mean 2 haha)
i think in the heat, the water will definitely be the go - but thanks for the tip.
and I will make sure i try the Abita's for sure

Thanks Staxsun.
We are only in Memphis for one evening but would love to get some tips on a great place to eat and any bars you would recommend as a must see while we are there. We would definitely much prefer to do the 'locals recommended' bar then the usual 'tourist pit stop' that most out of towners go to.
If you want to catch me off the board, you can e-me at Staxsun (at) hotmail (dot) com .

I have been past it a couple of times but have never gone in,due to having experienced OZ bars in London, this one should be different, firstly because it is in Nola and secondly because a 100,00 or so young Aussies dont live there so it may be more mellow.AS I will be close this year due to staying at Rennaisance Arts I will drop in for drink.

But caddy-corner across the street, is Lucy's Retired Surfer's Bar. A great joint. Delicious drinks, good food & lots of hotties hanging around.

I'm Susan and I'm 37. My husband and I live in the FL panhandle. We are crazy about New Orleans (and of course, the MUSIC) and visit regularly. Our friends are frequently dragged along with us; they're willing--most of the time!
Other interests: Reading, foreign/independent films, cooking, our gorgeous beaches, architecture, crochet, nature, animals, etc. (too many to name!)

Hey folks!
I'm Tod, from Buffalo NY. I'm the executive director for Music is Art, a live performance and music education charity founded by Robby of the Goo Goo Dolls. We're all about getting all genres of music recognized as art, and connecting them to other forms of art and to the community.
Personally, I'm a huge fan of New Orleans and its music. I host a radio show on a local station here WBFO called The Big Easy in Buffalo, which is also the name of a music education and concert series I helped develop.

Looking forward to the 20th and the Taste of Fest you're organizing over there in Wingtown. We're coming if the weather co-operates...can't miss Marcia, PGF and BSFN.

Yes, Steven King. It's a running joke here among the people who play trivia. Everytime that the topic is Literature, there are DT questions, and none of us know any answers!

"Confederacy of Dunces" is an all-time favorite of mine. Literally laugh-out-loud funny.
Sadly, I don't read as many books as I would like any more. I read so much for my work that I find myself wanting a different medium, especially music, for my pleasure time. Several friends have recently read "Down In New Orleans" by Billy Sothen and they highly recommend it.

Stephen King's latest collection of short stories are superb (I think it's still on the bestseller list). It's called Just after Sunset. He just gets better and better.
Also, you're gonna love Confederacy of Dunces. You may even find one of the characters popping up here from time to time. ;)

Confederacy of Dunces is wonderful. Catch 22 is in my Top 10 list along with Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas. The 5 part Hitchhikers Guide to the Universe Trilogy is fun. The fact that he wrote a 5 book trilogy is part of the fun. Anything by Ernest Hemingway ..........

I am compiling a list of these suggestions in a spreadsheet and I am going to work my way through.
Last year I read the entire collection of the Vampire chronicles and the new vampires and the Witching hour trilogy of Ann Rice, and it took me about 9 or 10 weeks to read all 15 books.
Also read Tin Roof Blowdown by James Lee Bourke, which was brilliant. Didnt realise it was one of a series, so have just purchased the first couple to get me started as well.
Love Paullina Simons - Tully, Bronze Horseman, Bridge to Holy Cross, The Summer Garden, Road to Paradise

Hello,
Traveling to the Fest from WI (12 degrees and just finished shoveling snow) the second weekend. We've never been in NO before. My wife and I are old farts traveling on a budget. Among our many questions:
Have a room reserved at the Days Inn I-10. Is it ok? From there what is the best way to get to Bourbon street at night and Fest? We have a rental car.
Will Preservation Hall be open? I understand we have to stand in line for tickets, how much in advance do we need to get in line?
Thanks for any information you can provide.

Looking forward to seeing some of your local stars, Marcia Ball, Buckwheat, and Cowboy Mouth on their home turf.

After looking, all three Days Inns listed are basically on I-10. I would not stay at any of them based on location. I'm sure the price is what stimulated you.

Welcome, Bucky.
There are two Days Inns on I-10, one in Metairie, on in New Orleans East. Either one should be a relatively short drive to the Fest. Both show rates of $76 prepay, or $90 cancellable. It that what you are paying? Neither one is near much of anything, so yes, you will want to get out in the evenings.
Are your rooms prepaid/nonrefundable? If not, I'd suggest keeping it as a backup while you look for something better. Try Hotwire & Priceline. I track results from both on my website and my blog:
http://jazzfest.swagland.com/bidding.html
http://swag.livejournal.com/
If you are patient, something decent sub-$100 will open up Downtown or in the Quarter as fest approaches. If you do get something downtown, you can go without the car, saving the cost of the rental, the parking at the Fest ($10-20/day or so), and the cost of parking or the nightly roundtrip cab fare to downtown.
If you've never been to NOLA, then yes, check out Bourbon St. But know there's a lot more going on in town than just that, especially once just wandering back and forth watching the other drunks gets old. Check http://jazzfestgrids.com for nighttime music listings as fest approaches.
If memory serves on Pres Hall, they have several shows a night (hourly?). I'd guess a half hour in advance should be enough to get you in. You can get a hurricane next door at Pat OBriens (ask for a go cup) and have something to drink while you wait.
If you are staying at the Days, your only real options to go downtown are driving or taxi. Taxi to either should run maybe $25 each way plus tip. If you drive, expect to pay about $10-15 for downtown parking. But... do not drive unless one of you will stay sober. The cops will be out, and New Orleans is about the last place you want to get a DUI.
Have fun and have a great Fest (you never forget your first time).

Bucky- My group stayed at the Days Hotel in Metairie ( I-10 & Causeway) for fest last year. While not luxurious, it was much better than we expected, clean & comfortable. Rooms were updated & all have a small fridge & microwave. There is an I-Hop restaurant attached to the lobby, that was very clean & had the most friendly service. Parking is free. Driving to fest was easy & only took about 10-15-min. from the hotel. Also, there is a Mall & a Target store across the way from the hotel. Here's a link to the reviews of this hotel from Tripadvisor:

well, from my three previous jam cruises i already know a big group of people that do jazz fest every year. and i have gotten a bunch of good advice from them.
obviously coming to NoLa is going to be all about the funk, and i am planning more on the late nights than the day fest (even though i want to make it out there at least 2 or 3 days over the two weekends). more generally i have a very eclectic musical taste, i love reggae, rock, bluegrass, hiphop, ...
you name it, there is no bad musical style, just bad music.

I have tried for years to get to Jazz Fest, and never have made it; although I used to come to New Orleans often when I lived in Fort Worth. This will be my first year, and I am planning on doing it up right. I am coming in on Wednesday the 22nd, and staying until I crawl out on Tuesday the 5th (figured I need a couple of rehab days on the back end).
I am 57 years old, hard core blues fan, live in Marina del Rey, and love festivals and events of all kinds. I haven't been to New Orleans since Katrina, but my favorite bar used to be The Abbey.
I am open to all advice and suggestions.

Hey Dean and Cathie -- welcome aboard! Lots of fellow Canajuns here online, jump on in and enjoy the ride. Just noticed Air Canada has cut fares until November 2009 significantly, and there's great deals to NOLA if you haven't already booked. But you have to book by Monday, so hop on it if you're interested!
Looking forward to meeting you behind Ms. Lena's at the Threadhead meetups! We don't bite and you'll find a lot of Canajuns in the bunch.
We are getting more excited as the our flight day approaches. We got excellent prices on the flights for the two of us the return flight is about $1200.00!!
We will certainly seek out the meetup place and look forward to meeting some threadheads and enjoying the festival and 11 days in New Orleans.

Thanks for the info, your web site is very informative.

Welcome to the bored and first time in NOLA and doing fest? What a way to get acquainted. You are good in my book. Go to the meetups at Lenas Beer tent. You will find the most amazing folks.
Looking forward to the meetup, see you there.

This will be my second year at JF and love everything about it. There has been more useful information on this board then any other musical event I've ever attended. Thanks for that. I went last year for the 2nd weekend and there are still so many more things I want to do. Your suggestions and experiences have certainly influenced my decisions.
Have a good one.

Official introductions.... Sure....
This will be our 1st Jazz Fest for 3 of us heading from "Down Under", 2 Aussies (one currently living in NZ) and 1 Kiwi. Not really sure how our initial genreal discussion of "Hey wouldn't it be cool to go to the New Orleans Jazz Fest check out the lineup" eventually turned to us braving the deadful currency exchange from the side of the world and booking plane tickets. But alas we are coming... and we are all pretty god dam excited about it at the moment. Most of our spare time is spent reading, watching and listening to anything we possibly can related to this adventure.
Anyways... I am Matt originally from most parts of Australia now residing in Auckland New Zealand working out a 2 year contract for work. Previoulsy resided in Sydney, Brisbane, Cairns and Adelaide before that....
Travelling with me from NZ will be the lovely Johanna who is a NZ local and the only person I know crazy (and excited) enough to join me on these type of adventures... We recently just returned from seeing Neil Young 6 times in NZ and down the East Coast of Australia...
Meeting us in LA will be an Australian friend of mine Ben who we have managed to somehow convince to rack up some debt and be part of this adventure.
All 3 of us have pretty diverse and eclectic music tastes, we all work for the same company which is Australia/New Zealands largest Music retailer and a good portion of this trip will be based around seeing as much music as we can. As well as the Jazz fest we are hitting Nashville & Memphis as Stax is way up high on our list of places to experience.
Anyways I think I have rambled enough... look forward to potentially meeting some/most/all of you especially the other Aussies and the like that are making the trip over.

I'm heading over (solo this time) for my 4th jazzfest since 2004.
Look forward to hooking up with your krewe at Ms Lenas. Looks like there's going to be a healthy ANZAC representation. As you say, currency is a nightmare this year. I have done airfare but not accommodation yet so hoping the Kiwi $ doesn't sink any further!! Already resembles the Titanic as it is :-(

Hello all,
I'm Katie, and this will be my very first Jazz Fest. Really looking forward it. I think I've been talking about going for about 12 years.
I went to Bonnaroo 2007 and All Good in WVa in 2008. Bonnaroo is a great festival but I'm over the festival camping thing. All Good was all bad...
I lived in Sydney, Australia, for several years and I've been to five East Coast (Byron) Blues and Roots Festivals.
I could only swing a long weekend for this, so I'll be there May 1-4. Have flight. Do not have tickets or hotel yet. Priceline rejected my offer.

Yeah have made a reservation at "Hampton Inn & Suites New Orleans-Convention Center" hope it all sticks... have read a couple of negative things about this place saying they overbook then bump people a week out... ill be staying in fairly regular contact with them to make sure this doesn't (hopefully) happen. We are flying out of NZ on the 15th and spending a week making our way down to New Orleans from Nashiville doing a bit of a road trip.... making the most of it !

Elena - Welcome. Noted with interest your Tues-Sat itinerary. We often did the same thing. Logic being to be able to get in to restaurants and clubs on Tues and Wed before large(r) JF crowds converge on the city makinig it more difficult to gain access. Also, staying at Fest thru Sunday requires two more nights of childcare. Not to mention the very crowded second Sat. It's tough to get around. On the down side, only two days of Fest :(
Part of my two person team (me) solved that this year by being able to go to first weekend plus Thurs and Fri of second weekend. Wife doing the traditional Tues-Sat routine. Hope you enjoy your first (of many) fests. A good portion of those who go once tend to go back again and again. Ain't nothing like it.
Peace

Hey all. We have a group of 14 going down this year, many of whom are first timers. Having attended many fests, I took the liberty to create a wiki (funny name for web page) which includes, among other things, youtube video of many performers from second weekend. The cool thing about the site is that anyone can join and post info, including video of your own.
Post video, add content, whatever!!!

THis can't be that hard, right? ha anyways- My name is Jennie I am originally from Norfolk, Va but now am a military transport to the third coast- down in the middle (Central) region of Texas ((FORT HOOD)) area. Though I am no longer in the military I still miss it (Injured in line of duty- but don't worry I will try to get back in as soon as I heal) I love our country and what we are day to day. Life is hard- but if it were easy I think we would give up faster. I love a challenge.
I have never been to New Orleans but would love to come out for this year's JazzFest. I am trying to talk my brother Bill to come down from Maryland and then we can meet up and enjoy some music together. Well along with everyone else enjoying and hanging out too.
I used to do the shows and the concerts on the east coast. I have been to many Dead shows and Jazz concerts- I love live music. I remember seeing Dave Matthews at a bar in Winston- Salem, NC way way way back in the early days.
oh I think I have written too much- must be because this is much more interesting then doing my powerpoint slides for class on Tuesday- oh um.
So I am Jennie, I am a single mom of a ten year old boy, and I love life. Cause life is good. Smile~~ and the whole world smiles too!!
