Community Radio Station WMNF, 88.5 FM is doing a show called "Rewind: The Music and Songs of 1968" at a great venue called Skipper's Smokehouse. Eclectic mix of local bands. http://wmnf.org/events/407

Hey yall,
As one of the St. Pete representatives of the Threadhead Nation, I should have a ready list of activities... So I'll start working on it ASAP. :)
jazzjones got it right about the WMNF show - they have been our traditional NYE for many, many years.
Jolie: Great call on the Galactic/mofro shows. Both are excellent choices. :D
I'll look into the other haps for NYE, and post up here soon.
Peace.

Here's another TH rep from St. Pete that doesn't have a plan for NYE yet either.
For NYD, there's an oddball event I heard about (more of an fyi than a recommendation). A few blocks from Freebo's abode is the Flamingo Bar, a sports dive that I have not yet been inside. Supposedly it was Jack Kerouac's last hangout and they've tagged his barstool. They have an all-day NY party with free food and live music for the regulars, locals, and homeless. Heard anything about this, FB?
Jolie, you'll get to Skipper's for Mofro; it's truly a live-music treasure in this area. Unless you chose to go to Ace's in Bradenton for Bonerama on the 3rd (which is probably my plan). Will see you at Galactic if nothing else.

Thanks for the responses and keep em comming please if you hear of anything else. Already got the tics for Galactic so that's a go.
We're looking at the Heritage House for sleeping accomadations but haven't booked yet..
But we do want to be close to the waterfront area if anyone can recommend anything else. Will be making a few day trips to Cortez and Punta Gorda to look at some boats.

Ahh, the Flamingo...
Scarring livers since, well, for a long while now! ;)
Dude, that place is so old school, they don't even have a web site!
HH is right about it being the last watering hole of Kerouac; he drank there while caring for his Mom during her last days...
As to their New Year's Day event: I just don't have a clue. But how bad could it be?
What's that?
Oh, OK then, nevermind...
Jolie - we'll gets back to ya soon. :D

Heritage Hotel? I personally have no experience with it but remembered reading this story about a new owner and renovations (that are supposed to be completed by now) and it sounds cool:

There's a Hampton close to the water and you might check out the Grayl. It's a funky small place across from the waterfront. We put a client up there recently and he said it was great, but he's been spending lots of time in an industrial city in China so his standards may be skewed.
If you splurge and get a room at the Vinoy the pre-Galactic party is in your room! The Governor had his wedding reception there Friday.
The Heritage and the other hotels I named are all a short walk from Jannus Landing (where the Galactic show is). There also centrally located for First Night, which might be a great way to spend NYE:

I'd expect the hotels to fill up for this.
Funny, but we might be spending NYE in Punta Gorda. There's a Parrothead party down there. With a NYE volume of alcohol I can enjoy me some trop rock.

I believe Jack pre-deceased his Mom; drinking at the Flamingo was a big part of his demise. He passed at St. Anthony's Hospital down the street --where this TH was born.
