Hey, I was at that Steve Riley set for a while with my daughter. BUt, with the inferior quality of the JF Live recordings, I'm surprised to see them nominated. It makes me worried their is not enough output in this genre to sustain a catagory. On the other hand, considering the train wreck the Grammy's are, I'm not going to get too worked up over it.

I shoulda got one for that Bobby Charles recording I tell ya.:p Or at least some kind of lifetime achivement award.

That Contemporary Blues category is a toss up. Any of 'em worthy.

I agree about the Contemporary Blues category but my nod goes to Irma. Beautifully played, sung, and recorded.

I'm a little concerned that they seem to be scraping the bottom of the barrel for the cajun/zydeco choices and this is only the second year they've had the category.

First off, no real zydeco is on the list! Chubby Carrier must be coming unglued!!! Keith Frank also has a great record out and is passed over.

Second, the Pine Leaf Boys web site features a long letter from Marc Savoy asking why Fuefollet wasn't nominated -- and his band was!! Now I want him to win just so I can hear his acceptance speech!!

oh, man... Chubby specifically mentioned that Live at Knuckleheads qualified based on the release date and was buoyed by Terrance's win with a live disc. How disappointing - especially after the crazy initial ballot list from the inaugural year of the category.

This is where a cynic would point out that most recordings placed in the short list for nominations have a serious industry connection behind the artist - either they've won before and the door is already opened, or someone in their camp has won, or has been nominated, or has label clout - and forces the door open for'em. But I'm not cynical - I'm an optimistic realist... Get back in the studio and pick that producer/management/publicist wisely, people!
