Anyone looking to book air from Philly...US Air just dropped their price on Expedia. Got $218 r/t for a direct flight, 4/23-5/4. The same flight was nearly $400 last week.

I gotta airline question.....
We are flying to Philly in Feb for our wholesale show. I haven't flown since the airlines put charges on checked baggage. Have all of them done that? USAir has a good price, but $15/ bag starts to add up!

Southwest & JetBlue, I think, are the only ones left with no charge.

Sorry, RT. Yeah, they do. Check the website. It's one of those "tickets purchased after September 6th, 2008 will pay $15 for the first bag" deals.

If you don't travel light for the shows, read the policies carefully.

For example, on AA (domestic coach non-elite), only the first bag is $15.
The 2nd bag is $25 more.
Additional bags after that are $100 each.
(each way)

You may want to look into Fedex or UPS. Depending, that may come out cheaper.

Thanks swag, all of our work and display stuff goes in two great big crates and shipped by freight carrier. I'm looking at suitcases for a weeks worth of clothes for both of us. It would probably be two or three checked bags, but the whole idea of paying for them gets me mad!

As an aside, the charges for bags were added because the airlines were losing money because the price of gas had gone through the roof. Now that they're down to less than 1/2 of what they were a few months ago, isn't it time that the additional charges were dropped????<rhetorical question>

Does that $218 include the tax? I see that price, but with tax, it's really $246.

I don't see that happening anytime soon. In fact, I'm just waiting for the Airlines to get "bailout fever." If you can make a case for the banks (?!?) and the car companies (maybe,) well, it's a short hop (sorry) to the airlines.

Course, when it comes to the airlines, I can think of several "additional charges" that could apply. Impersonating a business, perhaps?

Where's Patrick Fitzgerald when we need him?

On a serious note, it's not just Philly. Seems to be happening all over!

ugh... I had several emails about this. I find it depressing, of course, although I am happy for those of you who are going. Damn it.

yep. However, some will waive it depending on your fare class, if you have a credit card for the airline, or have "elite" status (meaning you fly way too much to pay for anything else...lol).
