Really? That's great! Glad to be the one to welcome you. Hey - post a photo of yourself on the photos thread. I don't think I've seen one of you yet. I need my poor ol' fried memory refreshed.
For me - I already knew many of these folks from the PDKK. But my first new threadhead I met was Carolina Beadhead.
My first PDKK folks were Kinderkitti, Banzai Bill and Lisa & Joe at Liuzza's before fest.
I think it was CBH, but I'm can't remember how and where....

Second Friday last year. Standing outside the fairgrounds waiting for Ms. Lena to let us in to work the beer tent. Mr. Soul & I met a very hungover looking mdfest. Followed very shortly thereafter by about a dozen more T-heads at Ms. Lena's. Can't remember all of them, but I know the Potters for sure and CBH.

Mine were Barry and Nancy...who might not have even been Threadheads when we met....hmmm...They came into my studio three or four years ago and bought some wonderful glass fish. They now have a glass fish "aquarium" that is full of Rosetree fish! :D ;)
The first Threadheads that I met after I knew what a Threadhead was were IB and Corona and their posse when Barry and Nancy brought them over last year to watch us blowing glass.

Back in the 90's I met FreidaFrost (i don't see her posting anymore), Headless Hornman, mrs Headless Horseman and JoePony and more folks all from PDKK. Here??? Umm...Kinderkitti, Rhode Island Lisa & Joe, Juana and Texas Fred at Austin City LImits Music Fest....and this year...the rest of youse guys!!!

Back when the meetups were by the camera by the Fais-Do-Do Stage, they were quick. It reminded me of the coin toss before a football game. Everybody shook hands, said hello, and ran off to the next set. At my first meetup I met Amylovesthefest, Carolina Beadhead, Saturnwreck, and Hockey Tom if my memory serves me correctly. I've sure made some great friends since those days, including some I met in Memphis rather than at the fest.

I know there was a purple bored, the bored before the antique bored and this one, in 98. That was my first year to fest and the peeps on that bored convinced me to come solo. Someone else surely knows when that bored started. The first TH I met was blukat who doesn't post anymore, and then at my first day of fest by george/va and neen and banzai bill.

not sure exactly, but 1998 was the first year we found this board, which led us to Petdekat krewe. Bought a couple shirts and met lots of people on the fairgrounds that year. Neen & Big Joe were among the first, I remember she was handed us a Cool Brew coupon, and we all went for some iced cafe au lait & bread pudding. Plus Ponydancer, Marisol, SteveMiami, Bethesda Boy, Beach Bob, Kinderkitty (funkkjunkie), and more and more every year... its been so great to meet up with more and more of you every year.

hey it's all a blur, but that wasn't us - never made it to Liuzzas until a few years later, we used to always rent a car and park near the post office on the Gentilly side and Liuzzas was way on the other side.... there used to be another bar on that side where we'd stop for bloody mary's but there weren't so many people there. I went sometimes after fest, but I think we started going to Liuzzas in the morning with IbJammns.

the purple board was the original Pet de Kat bored - i thunk.
they/it are/is hosted by Delphi Forums now.
i'm pretty sure i've been posting/eavesdropping here since 02. just havent done the cult thing much.
As I recall, the Purple board was the original Pet de Kat board, but it was linked to by this site. Remember, the Web was new back then, and the idea of a respectable business like Jazzfest using an offsite board, out of their control, hosted by a bunch of crazies, well, it seemed like a good idea to someone at the time. I think I first found it in '97, or maybe it was '98. But it was basically chat technology - all posts in a single thread, sometimes several distinct real-time conversations going on at once.
Eventually it got unlinked, the Kats moved on to delphiforums, and the Fest eventually put up their own hosted board.

I first came to the Fest Site board in '96 or '97, same as you I think, KK. That was when it was the purple board.
We kept breaking the board from too much volume, and they shut it down. That's when PDKK moved over to a Delphi Forum.
A year or two later a new forum/chat area came back to the Fest Site and that was the first incarnation of the threadhead board. In the beginning it seemed to be mostly KK, Swag, CBH and me trying to answer questions for fest virgins.
Check out the PDKK review page for fest reports & pix from many years - including from many Threadhead folks.

I really can't remember who I met 1st. If we go all the way back to the purple board, then it would probably be Chief Joe Ponydancer. He was at the door of whatever was the name of that place where Chubby was the entertainment for the PDKK for the night. Cabbie had to stop and ask how to find the damn place. If I'm not mistaken that was the same nite BeachBob was held up at gunpoint around the corner from the place.
After that, which I believe was 96 or maybe 97, PDKK and TH's kinda mush together, we's all the same.

Hi Barry - that was at Rosy's Jazz Hall. And it was Blukat and Trish and a couple of others who got mugged because they were walking back to Blu's place from Rosy's.
That same year though, Beach Bob was mugged at gun point right in the middle of the quarter on St. Ann's. He was rummaging around in his trunk and not paying attention and some guy came up and put a gun on him.

Too tired at the Patry, too quick at the meetups and just trying to connect names with bored names was enough of a challenge! I remember somebody went to Eastern Michigan, where I work and the musical note lagniappe, but the name is gone.....
I do remember (I think) corresponding with Neen back on the PdKK bored, I was T-bone back then and posted there and the old Offbeat bored. Posted a bit on the old Fest bored, but I kept forgetting my password.
Saturn and Corona, Nathan and Nance from the Detroit Fest are more clearly fixed in my mind. What a difference a year makes!

I don't think the Kat party with Chubby was at Rosy's; it was some place on Earhart, near Carrollton. And that was 2001, it seems longer ago.
To answer the original question (if PDKK and THs are considered the same back then) it would have to be Wendy (CandyGirl) in the van to the first Monkey Ball (which was in 2001). Met Voo once inside the venue.

I think it was two years later when the PDKK Daze party was at Rosy's with the Radiators playing acoustic. I had yet to meet Barry and was looking for him. Kept asking people; they'd spin around in a circle and say "but he was just here a second ago." Never found him that year.

I think it was two years later when the PDKK Daze party was at Rosy's with the Radiators playing acoustic.
I still haven't met Neen, but have a ''Gridded By" button on the Headless Hornman.
There must have been more than one PDKK party at Rosy's then, unless the Rads came on after DDBB and the Maggies.
Proud to know that the hornman is wearing a grid button!!!

I'm pretty sure they didn't open for the Rads because I would not have missed that. I didn't go to the fest in '02, was that the DDBB Daze party?
I can't find it now but I remember posting a photo of the Hornman a few years ago and someone with an eagle eye replied "is that a Gridded by Neen button."
I set the Hornman up on a camping trip and it got rained on, so some of the old buttons are water damaged. What's wild is that Voo's "Fuck Acura, Fess Drove a Caddy" button now has a rusty border just around Professor Longhair's photo, like a ghostly aura.
New since last fest: I've laminated some photos taken over the years of people posing with the Hornman and have hung them on a cord around his 'neck'(?).

Yeah, JuJu's button is still my absolute favorite. Mine has rusted a bit too, but I still pull it out and wear it every year!

The old purple board was hosted by the Jazzfest website. It was up for a couple of years before it was crashed by the Kats. The Kats then moved over to the home they have now on Delphi. Neen, the show you're thinking about with DDBB and Wild Mags was in 2000 at Warehouse Music Hall. The Kats were mugged going to Blukats house around the corner. The show at Rosey's was a year or 2 later and was a joint PDKK/Mystic Mermaids production featuring The Rads. Now back to the topic....the first folks that I met from the old purple board were Kats, or became Kats, back in '97. The first Threadhead meetings, before the TH term was coined, I believe took place at the Fais-Do-Do webcam. The first official "Threadhead" meetings took place behind Ms. Lena's beer tent in '02 or '03. I'm not sure which TH's I met first, Breambob, Maui, CBH, Saturn??? Hhhhmmmmmm......:)
Cuzzin' Bob when I was in SF. He introduced me to Jaypee. Nice lady. Otherwise, I hang out in the shadows.

Mine was a tie...technically, the first TH I met was Priestboy-as we are bruddas from the same mudda, but I converted him to Threadheadism
The threadheads that I met at the same time were JohnnyGospelTent, RonB and ZydeKitty all at Ms. Lena's for first shift first friday beer duty last year.
From there it just became a crazy amount of peeps in a very short time. I look forward to meeting even more of you fine peoples this year.

STLBARB is by all means the first TH I've met, although she never identified herself as such (Hmmmmm)? Albeit, I've only recently become fairly computer literate, and re-joined polite (?) society after being kicked out of the Hippies, I'm sure that if you have been anywhere near the soundboard at the Acura Stage, or in the front row for any of my favorite Blues artists, you'd recognize me. for you old timers, think ponytail and hat!

...hhmmmmm....I walked up on a group of festers that seemed as unsure as I was about who or whom we would all be meeting...maybe 15 or 20 of us...we huddled and said our hellos, trading names and stories for a short bit of time...we gathered around what looked like a giant hooded frog holding an umbrella and smiled for the infamous "web-cam"....checked our grids and made our plans, and off to festing we went again...as for the first...coulda been saturnwreck, carolinbeadhead, hockeytom, breambob, swag...ah musta been Rope, who I haven't seen in awhile...chocolate covered strawberries forever...

However Shay ive been running into for years at almost everey show I go to locally, didnt formally meet her until Tori's (one half of the mystical mermaids) birthday celebration at Mothers/8 x 10 last year.

Staxson, I'm pretty sure you were my first official Threadhead intro at an official meetup last year...

......ummmmm, not to get confusing like the Ray's Boom Boom thing. ....I'm sure that justagirl is talking about Rosy's Bar, not RT's, Rosey's, Arties, Jim's or even Darryl's world famous Rosetree Glass Studio!;) ....boy would I be on easy street if I owned a real bar.......it would have free dinks for Threadheads!!!!

Threadheads/Kats... when does one remember who was on which site to make the difference when there's so much overlap? I'm confused. I can't remember... oh yeah... JulsNJ I think, or maybe SteveLBI or CousinEd... then Sha and St. Dan the Man... most of the Jersey Kats... then Voo, who I knew from another lifetime... and Steve Apple, Marisol and Pony, Neen, Banzai Bill, Beach Bob, Ross, whoever else was at the 99 fest... and when did I actually meet Barry and Nancy, Swag, Denise .... I can't remember... Hornman at Voo's wedding... I know I finally met up with BH during MG of 06 and Hebjamin' during JF 06... and we all "know" each other but sometimes just haven't met in person yet, so it gets sorta lost, doesn't it?

Howard Johnson is right!
'04- CBH & IBJ, then Barry (who wouldn't recognize Barry- he was pictured in the forum header for at least a year...), then a ton of folks at a meet up, finished that fest with Barry, Eat_mo & a bunch of Kats, closing w/the Rads. A fine intro.

Ours was JackNomad who doesn't post much anymore (Hey wait neither do we) but we ran into him again last year at Liuzza's waiting in line for a Bloody Mary (one of many).
Our 2nd was Jada and little did we know that that quick hi,hey are you a TH, here's a button would lead to years of friendship!
Evil actually lurked for years b/c of the grids. I remember before I even found the board and before he took me to my first JF he sent out the grids. I had NO idea what it all meant. Then we discovered you crazies!
