Has anybody mentioned this here? The great New Orleans TV sitcom "Frank's Place" (1987-88), starring Tim Reid, is going to be released on DVD, BUT.....
acquiring the original music would be prohibitively costly, so they're going to have to re-record the music.
Reid said his current plan is to "re-create the mood of the music, the original stuff" with a newly written score performed by musicians who can accurately render New Orleans music."
Here's an article about it.

One of my all-time favorite TV shows!
An all time fav here too. Thanks for the info and I hope this works out.
Seems like a post-K show similar to this might be a great TV idea?
Big prob with FP was in not puting it in a time slot, they moved it around alot. It was a great show, and keep us updated if you see it for sale :)
Now back to my corner :(

Re creating that music is going to be essential. Why not get New Orleans musicians to do that? This was a series I did not watch the first time around so I'd love to check it out now. I hope they can get this released.

I'll ask around our friends to see if anyone knows where the Post work will be done. Steve's place only works on film. It's a pretty small community so someone you know is always working on something you know. Our local bar is next door to CBS studios ..... probably a good place to start. ;)
I'll report back if I find anything out.

Actually last year NBC had a copies of all the shows (I think it was maybe 18 shows). They tossed around an idea that someone had of showing it during Black History Month. I talked with the person that was responsible to give a pitch to put these shows back on the air during that month. He essentially told me, NBC scraped the idea mostly because the quality of the show was so poor and it was also a CBS production. He also said that it was thought that the show would only appeal to a small number of people, so it got shelved.
So, If some of those tapes are still around, I could make some copies for some of ya. I'll check it out and let you know.

B.E.T had the re-runs on for awhile in the late 90's if I am not mistaken. This was a wonderful program with top of his game performances by Tim Reid and even some locals used in the cast for authenticity of accents. My favorite episode was the one (think it was 'Frank joins the Club' one) that dealt with Creole vs creole heirarchy. You had to be lighter than a brown grocery bag to join this particular club and Franks friend tried to change that by recruiting him in. Frank's best lline was.. "I was the first black man to finish first in my classs at Harvard, but I'll be damned if I'll be the first black man in an all black club". Classic show that made me so homesick when I lived away in the late 80's.

This site claims to have all the original shows on 5 DVD's which he sells for $10 per DVD. A lot of other interesting stuff also. Don't know how legal any of this is, but hey.......

It's probably not legal, but normally nobody bothers to shut these people down unless there is an "official" release of the same material. Some of these guys offer stuff that has no chance in hell of ever getting an official DVD release. Most of these things are burned from somebody's recording-off-the-TV. I'm amazed that some of these shows, especially some of the older ones, even still existed in the form of somebody's recording.
