I got my patry tickets...but I am not voting for it. Probably not a surprise to most who will read this.
Please don't confuse wanting to go to the best patry of the year (the only patry of the year?) with a need to vote for it. A lot of people have poured their hearts, minds and skills into designing and promoting the patry. Again ... that's makes for a great reason to be making the scene at one of the coolest events of the year ...so why not vote for it?
Because of what's at stake: the message that we send.
Let's see it one way...Imagine this press release of the future:
Fans Pick Fais Do Do as Highest Note of Fest
When the coolest and most knowledge music fans in the world were asked to pick the best part of the entire New Orleans Jazz Fest experience, they choose the dance happy Fais Do Do stage. The stage won out against 63 other festival highlights including well known delicacies such as SoftShell Crab Po Boys, Cochon de Lait and the famous Crawfish Monica. In the end, even other fan favorite venues such as the Gospel Tent and 11 other hallowed stages (which have hosted the legendary performances of Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Ray Vaughn, The Meters and the annual Neville Brothers closer among hundreds too numerous to list) had to tip their hat to the Cajun and Zydeco "festival within a festival" that takes place every year at the Fais Do Do stage. Even New Orleans legendary Festival Night Life, bar scene and its hottest clubs , which for some fans (and quite a few musicians) are worth the trip all by themselves, went down to defeat because of the insatiable beat at Fais Do Do. The fans, known collectively as Threadheads, even put their own savory specialities and exclusive parties to the test but Fais Do Do conquered all. The casualties included the runner-up: a gathering whose very location is known only to the the hippest members of the groove, the party known affectionately as "The Patry".
"This is a heritage festival and that plays itself out on many incredible levels here... but above all else, our New Orleans heritage will be music", said fan spokesman <insert your name here>" so it is appropriate that the music took the top honor....most of us think that Fais Do Do came to symbolize the festival itself..which is embodied by the spectacular treats that Louisiana and New Orleans offer at least five other major stages standing in the shadows of the biggest National acts"
Ok....back to the present...here the alternative...
Fans decide their own patry is the hippest thing about Fest
(No...I won't write that story because... I can't believe that will happen...)
I'll leave it here..as this vote caught me out of sync with my other resposibilities so it's time to introduce another member of The SoftShell Boys...(They're hoping that you will keep them in the running... long enough for me to unite them right on Fais Do Do itself)

(he'll also give you a free ride to the voting booth if you give him a nudge)
