I saw Alejandro Escovedo a couple of days ago at a small auditorium at The Museum of Fina Arts, and it was amazing! I saw him over the summer touring for his latest record with a full band, which was great, but in this setting, the auto biopic songs really came alive. He played with another acoustic guitarist and an amazing fiddle player, both tremendous. There is no alcohol served at the venue (the horror!) and it lends itself to a totally rapt audience - you could hear a pin drop - no back of the room chatter or clinking glasses. I've seen a few shows at this venue and I truly feel the artists feed off the fact that they know they have your undivided attention and play their hearts out. It seems to be a nice break from the dirty rock clubs for many of those who play there, as they always seem to mention the lack of stale beer stench and sticky floors.

He played mostly stuff from The Boxing Mirror and Real Animal, but peppered it with some oldies. They left the stage during the encore to play a couple of songs in the aisles among the audience, including a Mott the Hoople cover, I Wish I Was Your Mother, then returned to the stage for a frantic cover of The Stooges' I Want To Be Your Dog. Great night.

I know theres only a few dates left on the tour (Northampton, MA, Wash DC and two in Austin) but if youare able to go, GO!

P.S. Did anyone see the tour for The Boxing Mirror with two cellisits, the same fiddle player and a steel guitar? That was a night to remember...

That sounds fun! When I saw him last year with a full band, he and the fiddler left the stage and played acoustic out in the audience. This was a club, so it was hard to hear, but very nice. The audience was dead quiet despite the booze!
