Hello all,
I have finally gotten the FestAid website (www.FestAid.com) up and running and mostly updated, and it is time to start letting everyone know that FestAid will be back again this year. In case you don't know, last year over 125 volunteers, most of which came from this bored, performed over 250 volunteer opportunities. We worked with Habitat for Humanity, Second Harvest, Animal Rescue, Katrina Krewe, and Arabi Wrecking Krewe. There were a lot of people doing a lot of good work.
I want to thank everyone that was involved last year. It was such an amazing experience! Those that helped out, I am sure feel the same way.
We are not quite ready to start having people sign up as I want to get an automated process in place. Zydkogrl and I about lost it trying to keep track of everyone via email. We are going to try and get some more opportunities this year, so stay tuned for that.
Last year we were able to accomplish all that we did by spreading the word, so get the word out. If you are on another bored, let them know about FestAid. Some of this has already happened. We are going to get our press releases out soon, so hopefully that will let others know about what we are doing.
I am looking forward to getting back to NOLA, giving a little back, seeing you all, and enjoying the city, music, and Festival that we all love!

Its good to be back. I took a little hiatus after last year. There was a bit of an emotional shut down after last year.
kk Wakarusa in your future for this year?
Welcome back! Best wishes on the coming volunteer season!

In the next day or so, we are going live with our automated signup process. Thanks Brad and Matt! Get on www.FestAid.com, login, and signup. The sooner you signup, the better, so we can gauge if we need to bump up our commitment to opportunities like Musician's Village. You will be able to revise your choices at any time. If you have problems, click the email links and let us know what they are, so we can address them.
The descriptions for a couple of the opportunities are going to change. Now that we have the signup process working, we will be revising some of the content on the page to update it, and we will be trying to get more volunteer opportiunities. Below is a brief summary of the changes in the volunteer opportunities.
The St. Bernard Project is now the St. Bernard Recovery Project, which is focusing on rebuilding St. Bernard Parish by rebuilding homes, civic centers, schools, and interacting with the community.
Arabi Wrecking Krewe is no longer cleaning and gutting homes. They still need assistance in fundraising, community volunteering, increasing public awareness for the work they are doing and the work that needs to be done, and are looking for licensed, bonded, and insured contractors that can do rebuilding work. Signing up with them will redirect you to their volunteer signup page, and after that you can work directly with them.
Katrina Krewe is no longer picking up trash along New Orleans roads. If you click to signup with them, you will be redirected to the volunteer page on their website, which has many organizations through which you can volunteer.
Thanks for all of your help in the past! We look forward to giving back to New Orleans again this year.
Regards, Huck
Also, I am psyched...we have a logo now. My friend Steve Gariepy, whom I met at Wakarusa last year, got inspired and came up with the design after we talked it out during last year's festival. In addition to being an artist, father, and good dude, he hosts the camp Festus Radio Hour on wdbx 91.1 fm in Carbondale, IL. Thanks Steve!

thank you for doing this... we're going to look it over and see what we can do. My husband is a civil/structural engineer (well, how civll? depends on his mood. lol) and he's been wanting to really get involved in something. I've been down helping out some friends several times, but this is his chance to do something other than just writing a check. He's looking forward to it.
thank you again.

No waka for me this year, huck. My work year has been extended this year and I'll still be working. It's my first one to miss. :( But something else is sure to take its place!

Hey all!
Be sure and check out the FestAid website www.FestAid.com. zydkogrl's friend Alex incorporated my friend Steve's logo into a killer header for the website. Very cool what can happen you make connections with good people. Thanks again to Brad and Matt our new web designers.
While you are there login and sign up if you have not already. There are still a lot of open opportunities. Thanks again y'all for all for giving back to New Orleans.
Cheers, Huck!
