He put on a killer show in Austin last Sept at ACLF. We were one mass of humanity listening to that man wail, he had beautiful command of his musicians (prettiest slide guitarist I ever did see), and it was a great setlist. I'm hoping for another inspired performance in NOLA.

:D :D I am so excited! After years of wanting to see Van the Man, hearing all the many stories about how good/bad his performances were, I get to see Van TWICE this year! Once at home on February 27 and once in NOLA. How fab is that?

I'm definitely not missing him. I would love to see him wail. That one could end up being a really great show.

I do believe that may have been the one and only Cindy Cashdollar on slide. She is an angel for sure!

Hey Now Jckstraw, I have seen 40+ Van shows over the past 15 years, and I dont know of a more mercurial performer. Van is the most hit or miss musician around. When he is "on" his shows are pure musical/spiritual bliss.... when he's not feelin' it, it can be painful to witness. (much like Jerry Garcia in the last few years of his life). You never know which Van Morrison is going to show up, but when he is feeling the muse, his music is the most powerful, fulfilling, radiant, beautiful thing around!!! (again, just like Garcia- when Jerry was "on" were some the finest, happiest times of my life). Raise your glass in a toast to George Ivan Morrison; Irish Mystic- Celtic Soul Man Extraordinaire.

By the way Jckstraw, love your screen name. Jack Straw was one of my favorite Bob Weir tunes, it really seemed to kick the band into high gear. Ahhh.... God I miss Jerry and The Grateful Dead!!!!

Matthew, I absolutely agree with your assessment of Van. Saw him twice. Once at JF '96....Horrible. Once up here in '99... Terrific.

If I recall correctly, matt, I seem to remember trading some posts with you on the old forum!
Howdy!
as for the Waka...I am goin gto assume Wakarusa.
Pretty much Jazzfest and the Old Settlers Music Festival in Austin are the only festivals we generally hit.
Although....we did make it to the Fuji Rock Festival last summer. What a time!!!

Hey Now MormanMatthew I fully agree with your assessment as well. When he is on, it is magical, when he is not its like "oh we got a bad one this time". Once you get one of each, you know. I am predicting a fantastic show based on most of the reviews I have seen from shows in the past few months on this bored. Don't prove me wrong, VAN!

I am excited for Van playing first weekend, really glad he's not playing 2nd weekend when I'm there. Van is way beyond unpredicable these days, allot like his arch pal Dylan these are performers who where their emotions on their sleves. Great in some moments but absolutely horrible in other moments while playing live (I have noticed over the years more horrible then great). As the years roll on by I am less and less inclinded to chance a fabulaus day at fest to maybe see a marginal show. I'd rather hit the Econo tent or the do do stage or Congo where I am pretty much guarenteed a solid well oiled machine vs the question everyone will be asking themselves as they wait for Van to appear on stage.... What is he going to be like this time?? So other then Bag of Donuts, or Dap Dish Dock you are pretty much guarenteed a solid show any where with in fest as far away from where Van is playing at the same time. I love the old irishman but I can no longer give my time to a performer who be-littles his musicains on stage, fires them in the middle of tours and expects that everyone around him play his music perfectly! the last time I saw him here in Minny his show reminded me of Buddy Guy rolling through 30 seconds portions of all of his classic songs, playing 45 minutes and leaving with out saying a word of thanks to anyone. I don't support those type of head strong musicians any longer unless they start to give themselves up publically to their fans. I much rather see Rosie Ledet!

How lucky is that? Wow!
I tried to get tickets when he was in Atlantic City but they sold out in like 6 minutes or less. As much as I've always wanted to see him, he's never played near enough to where ever I was at the time. This is my chance to finally see Van my Man :)
The ringtone for my youngest (and only) Brown Eyed Girl is just that. When ever we hear that song, no matter what time of day or night, wherever we are, we always call her cell and sing a bit of it along with Van, to her. Of course, her friends all think she's got a couple of drunken, insane parents... oh... maybe they are almost right! LOL
We go to an Irish pub several times a month, and I always stick several dollars in the jukebox to play my favorite Irish music.
