It's never too regional. You never know who might be nearby, or traveling to your "hometown". :D

What a show! If any of you are debating seeing them, GO! I'd particularly recommend seeing them when they're not opening for Cowboy Mouth (a warm up set is too short for them), but if that is the only way you can see them, then by all means go.
I'm also heading to Jonathan Richman on Thurs, Eric Lindell on Fri and Galactic on Saturday (babysittiing bill will be through the roof, but it is worth it). Hope some of you make it out. E-mail me at jordanh@traiana.com if you are planning on attending any of these, and I'll say hi.

Jordan, you saw them at Mexicali? NICE! Wish I could have joined ya. DAMN IT!!!!
I will be at Galactic Friday so we will miss each other. If the show is REALLY good on Friday I may try to attend the Saturday show but my other half has to work so we chose the Friday show. Maybe we can meet for a drink on Friday??? Where is Eric playing on Friday?

Shannon McNally is also at the Stanhope House (NJ) on Friday 3/2. She's with John Ginty Band - who was Robert Randolph's original keyboard player...before he became a *pop* star.
Stanhope House is about 75 min from NYC via Rte 80. $10 cover.

I don't know if you want to include South Mississippi musicians in this list, but Cary Hudson (formerly of Blue Mountain) will be playing two gigs in the NYC area:
3/29 - Lakeside Lounge
3/30 - Pete's Candy Store (Brooklyn)
He plays some damn fine country blues.
I will try to be at the Antibalas show (not sure how that's N.O. based, but they are outstanding, nonetheless) and ReBirth!

Saw Bonerama in Philly last night - at Ortliebs Jazz Haus - now that was tiny! - couldn't fit everyone on stage. Bert Cotton was relegated to the "kids table". Can't get enough of hearing them play The Ocean. Cool venue.

Where in CT are they playing? Going to "Gathering of the Vibes" in Bridgeport in August?
Dr. John & Wynton were both great, as always. However, a couple points. Jazz at Lincoln Center (jalc.org) is a very high-end house of jazz, for right or wrong. Basically, Wynton's ivory tower here in NYC. Some great stuff comes out of it, particularly around education, but when someone with the amount of raw grit that Dr. John can muster comes through, it shows how scrubbed the place is.
Now, with that caveat, Dr. John & the Lower 911 band played a solid, intense 50 minute set that had people standing & clapping along (but you could tell the sound was configured for Wynton). They brought Wynton out for a Mardi Gras medley and the drummer joked, "Tell him there's no per diem."
Always great to see The Night Tripper, but I still prefer the show I saw at HOB several Jazz Fests ago that started at 4:00am -- his music was more comfortable there...
Then there was a brief intermission while they set up for Wynton. Wynton's quintet came out, with a woman spoken word artist (whose name I missed as she was the understudy) and a "young genius" tap dancer. Yes, he was!
Wynton debuted a piece he co-wrote with Maya Angelou about the history of African-American music. Really powerful and empowering poetry, great interpretations of blues & jazz and the tap dancer brought the house down. Their hour flew by as well...
A great night all in all, and DEFINITELY got me fired up for The Fest!
