Conor Oberst
Michaela Majoun welcomes Conor Oberst to the World Cafe for music and conversation drawn from his eponymous new effort. Oberst took leave of his distinguished band, Bright Eyes, to create his first solo record since his early teens when the indie music scene initially embraced the songwriting wunderkind. The album is infused with the simplicity and mysticism of the Mexican mountainside setting chosen for recording, making for a lean acoustic brand of the seductive melodies he's known for.

Mutlu
Mutlu joins host David Dye on the World Cafe for performances from his first full-length release, Livin' It. A mixed-bag singer-songwriter, Mutlu Onaral is unafraid to put a jazzy spin on a folk melody, or even combine his funk inspirations with licks of unexpected hip-hop, but regardless, he's got a brand of soul that will reliably put a groove in your step. For his debut effort, he teams up with a crew of fellow Philadelphians including G. Love, Amos Lee, and Daryl Hall, for a record full of positive vibes and joyous collective performances.

Albert Hammond Jr.
Steve Lillywhite's latest project is Albert Hammond Jr., who joins us for this special Lillywhite Session on the World Cafe with David Dye. While maintaining his formative role as rhythm guitarist for garage rock band The Strokes, Albert also launched a solo career to much acclaim in 2006. Now he's serving up seconds with the new release Como Te Llama?. During the visit, he shares insight with David about getting comfortable in his new frontman skin, as well as the slow songwriting process that led to the sophomore album. Stick around for the second hour of the show to hear about Steve Lillywhite's experience producing The La's' sole record.

Sonny Landreth
Host David Dye welcomes slide guitar master Sonny Landreth to the World Cafe. On his tenth album, From The Reach, the Louisiana based musician is joined by an all-star ensemble including Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler, Dr. John, and Jimmy Buffet. Making an album with a crew of his favorite musicians was a long-awaited objective for Landreth, who wrote each song on the disc with specific artists in mind. The result is an in-depth back and forth conversation of guitar riffs and trading of verses on this collection of blues, rock, and zydeco influenced tunes.

Calexico
World Cafe host David Dye gets a visit from Calexico for music and conversation drawn from their new album, Carried to Dust. Calexico not only takes its name from the border region between California and Mexico, but also takes the American Southwest as primary inspiration for their indie rock sound. Committed to testing the limits of their musical fabric, they invited guest performers like Iron & Wine's Sam Beam and Pieta Brown to take the mic and direct the songs on Carried to Dust. In talking with David, they explain their travels to South America and John Fante's book, Ask The Dust, which reveal themselves in the themes of the new record.
