I've seen a number of shows there. It's a 16,000-seat arena. The sight lines are mostly good, but the sound can be hit or miss depending on the skill, motivation and sobriety of the act's sound techs.

If you are looking for a place to warm-up, there's nothing near the arena. The nearest places are in downtown State College, about 1 mile away. I would recommend The Rathskeller, 108 S. Pugh St., as the quintessential college bar.

Thanks steeleye; much appreciated. Happen to know if tailgating is frowned-upon?

Penn State is the land of tailgating. You shouldn't have a problem around the Bryce Jordan. Be aware, though, that the cops are not tolerant in the downtown area. As long as you stay up by Beaver Stadium/Bryce Jordan, you should be fine. (Wish I didn't have to work that day.)

Thanks again!

Just got an email from the venue; they are actually letting folks park the day before the show at Medlar Field (then they proceed to say sleeping overnight in your car is not encouraged?!)

Should be a fun road trip, saw Dickey Betts last night and that was the perfect warm-up.

Medlar Field is the new baseball stadium near Bryce Jordan. (My son played baseball for them, so I spent some time up there!) I would be surprised if they hassled anyone who decided to sleep in their car. During football weekends, there are tens of thousands sleeping in various forms of RV's/cars in the fields up there.

If you decide to sleep over, the Intramural Building offers free showers(catecorner from Bryce Jordan, directly across the street from the Shields Building). Many football RV'ers forgo showering in their small trailer and use the IM facility instead. No one will ask for a student ID.
