The other day I was reading my copy of Offbeat and came upon a wonderful ad that said 'Halloween on Oak Street' sponsored by the Maple Leaf and Papafrog Productions.

Papafrog Productions - as in our Papafrog? Well, indeed it is !!!!!!

This will be the first year of Halloween on Oak Street. It is going to be a celebration of the Ivory Coast Festival of the Masks. Ivoire Spectacle will be African drumming in the street with our own Papafrog, and two bands at the Maple Leaf, Jon Cleary and Renard Poche. There will also be a costume contest with prizes that have been donated from vendors in the area and around the city.

There will also be an African Mask vendor selling authentic masks, and maybe a few others.

The festival is also getting support from a few other vendors on the street including a newer bar at 8801 Oak - called Station 8801 and, Jeff (papafrog) tells me that they may begin having live music shortly !!!!!! For the festival the band The Revivalists will be playing in front of Station 8801.

This sounds like a cool event and if anyone is in the area go out and support a fellow threadhead and the Maple Leaf who has apparently been phenomenal with support for this event.

its a real honor to play with master african musicians....i cant begin

the Maple Leaf has been very strong supporters of our music,
and halloween event.....the key is the owner has been to Ivory Coast
several times...and loves extremely spicy food that the africans cook...
station 8801 will have live music on future saturday nites...
if it goes well it will be every saturday nite.....
first show is oct.11...Jeff guitar nelson band
then...oct.25th..margie perez....
and in november there will be some loyola/tulane bands to try and
draw crowds from the local schools.....

It was great to see you with Seguenon, Papa. Sorry it took so long...really groovy music. Not sure of the halloween plans but it is very possibly including a trek to Oak St.

Very cool.

I missed you during fest on Frenchman Street so I'm going to try my darnest to get up to Oak Street and see you on Halloween. I get in town early that morning so it's going to be one long night!

Oh, and I could also use a Cleary & alligator cheesecake fix!

Onya Papafrog!

Gotta figure out how to get you a Kundu Drum from PNG... snake skin on top so it's not easy to get in and out of countries.
