I've been going to both weekends for the last 8 years and I've never purchased a Brass Pass. So I have 2 questions...does the $350 cover tickets both weekends? Is it worth it?

I think it is worth it. It covers tickets for one person for both weekends and the stuff in the WWOZ tent PLUS you are supporting WWOZ.

Depend on your source for tickets.

6 days X $37 at the Arena in advance = $222

6 days X $41.90 from Ticketmaster = $251.40

6 days X $45 at the gate = $270

The extra is for a really good cause, and you can get fruit and iced coffee and some shade at the WWOZ hospitality tent. I've gotten one the last 5 years and really think its the way to go unless you are on a really tight budget.

Nola,.. having no personal experience with the Brass Pass,.. could you please answer a question... Not that one,... this one: Do they give you some kind of an ID that accompanies the Pass?..

i know that you can't come and go from the arena once you are in but do you ever particularly want to? is it worth having the pass for that alone?

It can be a nice benefit, but I agree most don't use it.

The reason to get it is because it supports a great cause -- WWOZ is a great radio station and instrumental in helping to preserve Southern Louisiana music and culture -- and the incremental expense is minimal.

In ten straight years I have never once had a desire,.. or the need (thankfully),.. to leave the fest grounds once I entered.. I arrive early and always stay at least until the last note has been played on the last stage.... Usually I stay beyond that to just eat a few more goodies before goin' to party outside the gates... My lady,.. always save some energy to party outside,.. it is as fest like (if not more) than the fest itself...

BUT if you feel you would need that possibility ("need" being the key word),.. then the Pass is obviously the way to go,.. and would definitely be worth it for that alone......

Hey I am thinking about buying a brass pass this year. The dilemma I have is my brother is only coming for 1st weekend. So he would be paying for an extra weekend. These are not transferable, right? Only the Superpass or whatever they call it is, right?

One can always write a minimal $130 check directly to WWOZ and deduct it from ones maximum taxes.... ;)

Your question confuses me (almost as confusin' as the propensity for Boston fans insisting that Derek Jeter ***** ) ... Why in the world would you even consider purchasin' a Pass for your bro,.. he of the one weekend??.. For you, yes indeedy,.. for him,.. no, nope, nyet, nine.....

I'm also thinking about getting a Brass Pass this year. Not for the in and out privilege, but just because I hate giving ticketbastards any extra money. I would rather support a really good cause. And there have been some years when a little extra shade, fruit and good facilities would be welcome...

You can consider the cost of about $22 a day as shade, fruit, and cleaner facilities(????... IS IT TRUE) money...

The seats,.. the water.. the iced coffee,.. and the joy that comes with providin' WWOZ with some operatin' cash is all free .....

"OVERPASS (transferable) and the other premiums mentioned above" this is from the Link in Neen's 1st post. its 450. if you can find someone to take the other weekend it would cost him $225.

One year friends of mine (includuing Moon), stayed at a place about 3 blocks from the fest. They were able to use their in & out privlages when they wanted to freshen up/change/have some nookie, etc.

But if I wasn't staying that close, I doubt I'd use the in & out option either.

I had the delight of going in the WWOZ tent along with brass pass friends a time or two. It really was a nice break, and the free coffee, water and fruit were great. They have computers there too, if for some reason you want to taunt your fest-less friends.

Well, because we would be chillin' at the fest TOGETHER, and the additional pluses may be handy. Not to mention I would rather help 'OZ with two brass pass purchases if we could get some use out of the 2nd pass on the 2nd weekend. Radgumbo,..

I had to walk away for awhile... I would never ever dream of denyin' you your right to enjoy the fest with your brother???... I very much envy you that,.. my three brothers won't even consider it... Lets jus' agree your math and mine differ greatly.. If there is a new math that allows a young guy like you to consider purchasin' a Brass Pass for three days use,.. then by all means go for it... On the other hand,.. you might consider how many 3rd place Red Sox hats you could buy for the rest of the family with your savin's of $230...:D

As for Jeter,.. his history of accomplishments both on and off the field kinda of impress me.. He may be the best combination of athletic talent,.. results,.. good manners,.. and incredible business smarts this world has ever seen (and all that while datin' many of those beautiful women that stare us down ever time we check out our groceries,.. that may put a hamper on your chants).... We all attend the fest for our own reasons, but implicit in those of us who return year after year is an acknowledgement that it is the VERY best of the best that we can find,.. and we return for more... Jetter is just that in his own field,.. and all the bad juju chants in the world from Bosox fans won't change that....

I got a Brass Pass for the first time last year, and other than when I picked it up, I don't recall anyone checking my ID when I used it for entry. Did anyone else with a brass pass get ID'd last year?

So unless my recollection is mistaken, you might consider this, if you want to 'transfer' your Pass to someone else the other weekend.

Rev. Cleophus: I too was a newbie Brass Pass holder last year and while they did check to see that I had one when entering the OZ tent area (and of course the front gates) - they didn't check my ID against it either.

That is why I was posing the question, dude. I was not sure that the Overpass was the only transferable pass. If say, I bought one brass pass and my brother and someone else split another brass pass(that someone else taking 2nd weekend to use it). Then it would be 150 each. Ya see? 3 days tix through the ticketbastard is over 120 so for 30 bucks more he brass passes it. If however, and this appears to be the case, it is not truly transferable then phuck it, I am chillin' the way I always have with regular ol fine enough to see the show tickets. Besides I was recently reminded of an important reason to hang in the lovely fields of fest.

As far as Jeter goes, whatever. I do the chant because it pisses off some Yankee fans (sorry Scoop, Cisco, et al.)-You know it does as you wouldn't respond if it didn't. Jeter is good, sure. The Yanks have been a winning organization in the past for sure. Just remember, he only played four more games than our shortstop last year and our WS rings are still newer. :p

Paul - I believe they actually did check my ID the first time I went in first Friday, and wrote down my name on a list, but didn't cross check against the number on the pass. After that, they just scan the bar code label on the back as you enter. And I'm not even sure what good that does, since you can leave and re-enter. I've never left - maybe they scan it when you leave so they know you didn't hand it to someone else through the fence. One year the sunscreen and sweat virtually wiped out the bar code, but they just laughed and let me in anyway. Last year I put a piece of clear tape over it to keep it from smearing. But that's just me.

MTRad - in years past, you could bring one guest into the 'OZ tent so if that is one of the motivations for getting your brother a pass, he won't need one. I think the rule is one guest at a time, but I've gotten more than that in. Also, I've never seen a system where they could tell that someone different was using a brass pass the second weekend. I don't think they have the manpower to cross check ID's against the brass pass numbers and users from first weekend.

As for the hospitality area, they usually try to make you consume the fruit, iced coffee, etc. in the tent but sometimes I've just walked out and ignored the pleas to "come back with that stuff"! And sometimes they don't notice at all, if they are checking someone else in. I guess the fest doesn't want the competition from the freebies at the tent. They do indeed have maintained and "cleaner" blue rooms as well as the afore-mentioned computers for taunting those poor souls who are not in attendance.

This whole long post is way off topic,.. so read only if baseball interests you...

Rad,.. As for people chantin' stuff like that,.. like Christmas,.. it's a shame the peaceful glow of fest doesn't take place every day and every where... ;) And Jeters year was not determined by how many games he played but how damn good (once again) he played them...

As for the Yanks and I,.. born and bred in Mass.,.. spent my first 21 years there (a special fondness for 1978),.. and then another 9 from 1985-94... My grandmother was a 1st cousin of Vic Raschi,.. known by many as the Springfield Rifle... He came from a town one over from where I grew up,.. and he pitched for the Yanks for 8 years and in 6 World Series (all of which the Yanks won).. He won 11 Series games,.. with an 2.24 era,.. and won another 167 during his career with a .667 winnin' percentage... With that history in my family I grew up watchin' (mostly listenin' in those days) to the Yanks at my Grandparents house,.. but all my brothers are Sox fans... Go figure.. From 1965 until Thurman Munson came on the scene I started my baseball fandom backin' some of the worst Yankee teams ever... Loved that 1967 Red Sox team,.. though I wouldn't admit that to my friends...

In all my years of enjoyin' the Yanks-Sox thing (many, many games at both Fenway and Yankee Stadium,.. was at Fenway for the 1st DH game and the famous Billy Martin-Reggie Jackson fight) the Sox fans and their growin' frustration has always kinda amused me... (no real lastin' relief from 2004 for some reason)... All kinds of thoughts about the nasty nature of the chantin',.. but never the one you identified.... Always amazed at the level of anger that has permeated that most fantastic of all parks,.. Fenway... Again,.. the chants don't get get me in the way you mentioned but I have been known to throw out a NINETEEN- EIGHTEEN response now and then,.. before the Yanks choked in 04 that is... and yes they sure did choke... But choking with 26 previous Series under your belt is a lil' different than your experience in 1978 and especially that 1986 thing when all those years of Bosox frustration were just ONE strike away from endin',.. Oooouch... By the way callin' 04 a Yankee choke- which Sox fans luv' to do- implies quite clearly that the better team lost...

Regardin' something I mentioned earlier,.. that being the Yanks 26 World Series titles (forget all those League and Division titles -10 straight now right???),.. anywho,.. does it strike you as odd that this great Yanks-Sox rivarly is based on what is now a historical fact of 26 to 1 in regards to their individual success in attainin' World Championships since 1918??.. Just what kind of rivarly does that record represent??... But hey in this century it's 1-0 Sox,.. although I consider 2000 to be part of this century,.. it does begin with a 2,.. so 1-1 it is...

Hey Rad,.. if the Sox ever win one again (and it could very well happen in your lifetime),.. promise to enjoy it more... In 04 what I mostly saw were close ups of Sox fans hidin' their eyes durin' the League Championship... It was hilarious how scared (convinced) they were that somethin' bad was goin' to happen,.. again... I gotta tell ya' there has been a lot of bad karma created by the Sox fans towards their own team over the past 40 years... By the way,.. that "team" with their "newer" rings sure have gone off in a lot of different directions since,.. not too many ring bearers left on that 3rd place team last season...

Ya' gotta love baseball,..the players they tend to come and go,.. especially nowadays,.. but our teams are always our teams,... It has been very special for me to watch the core of Jeter, Rivera, Williams, and Posada over the past 11 years... That is one hell of a core,.. especially seein' they were right there up the middle... The first three guys are as classy a trio as the sport has ever seen.... Two sure 1st round Hall of Famers in Jeter and Rivera... Hate to see Bernie Williams danglin' like he is now,.. he was close to becomin' a Saux once...

Yes,.. it's that time of year,.. pitchers and catchers report in a few weeks... And good luck with landing Helton,.. oops,.. a quick look at ESPN says no go with that... I'll say hi to your team when I go see them with all my Mass. friends who come down and stay with us for some Gragefruit League action,.. I'll throw out a 3rd place chant for ya'....

Back in the spring of 03 we went to see the Sox play the Devil Rays in St. Pete,.. I spotted Big Papi in a sox uniform for the 1st time... I knew him well from his Minnesota days as a guy who hammered Yankee pitchin'... The three guys I was with,.. all Sox fans,.. knew nothin' about him... I told em' straight out,..if they decide to keep that guy he is goin' to make you very happy... Little did I know just how true that would prove to be... Anywho,.. gotta go... again,.. good luck,.. chant away,.. but leave that stuff home when you come down for the fest that's best.... No arguement there,.. right??...

Just pour that coffee over some ice, slip in a little vodka or kahlua, and voila' - you've got a beverage that keeps you lively and a little buzzed, all in one. I live by the iced coffees at fest!

I think I only made it to the tent once or twice last year. Too much good music, good food, meet-ups, etc. But it is a nice option, especially on those blistering hot days with no breeze. I used to have to go everyday with my vegetarian, fruit-loving sister as my guest, but last year she got her own brass pass!

Iced coffee is such a great eye-opener around 4:00 p.m., after 3 or 6 cold cold beers - it gets you all ready for the final couple of acts...sorry its not your thing, Amy!

I've never been to Liuzza's; never did make it there last year. That's one of the new JF experiences I'm looking forward to this year!

Me too!!!

I have never been to and want to check out that Shell Fest post fest one day at the gas station . . .

Did that for the first time one day last year. What a hoot. It is worth checking out one day. The people who pull in trying to fill up their cars have the funniest looks on their faces.

My eye openers are vegetable in nature and come from Liuzza's.

Well, OK, Liuzza'a has the 10:30 a.m. eye-opener. Maybe the iced coffee is just the 4:00 p.m. pick-me-up.

The first time the best half and I went lookin' for it all we knew was the name,.. Shell Fest... We were keepin' an eye for some kind of seafood restaurant or something similiar... Man,.. did we break up laughin' once we figured it out from a 100 yards or so...

An absolute must to do at least once,.. although all those peeps smokin' their cigs around the pumps feels a little dicey.......

When the fest gets closer and many new eyes start poppin' in,.. keep a secret (it made our first time 3 years ago all that much better).... It's a very unique party that really get's a rockin' is a very honest answer.......

I understand the water is not in bottles but you can go into the tent and refill your own water bottles, is that correct? I don't much like fruit and don't at all like coffee so think water is the only perk I'm gonna use . . .

Yes Amy, you can refill your bottles. Jimmy drinks loads of water so he used a camelback thing last year and refilled that there too.

dont forget the big bowls of green olives next to the big bowls of fruit
the gentleman who makes the iced coffee is very proprietary and proud of his recipe, btw

If you order a brass pass, you may even get to pick it up from MOI personally, as I have been bugging Robin at WWOZ for about three months to let me volunteer at Whole Foods for Brass pass pick-ups on the days before the fest....
