March 6-8, 2009 at Hampton, VA.

I'm hoping they come to NOLA in late April/early May!!

I think Phish is on the permanently banned list at the Fairgrounds.

But that wouldn't preclude a night show somewhere...

there's a "list"? a Quint version of the "nixon enemies list"? a "this act is just too popular" list? Do tell... now I'm curious about who's on it - there have been some obvious oversights/omissions that made be wonder if the acts and their mgt. were clueless, or something more sinister...

I think they're banned because of the disease and lice ridden crowd they bring with them.

I have friends who used to go to Phish shows, pick up the wooks, shake them until their drugs fell out of their pockets, steal the drugs for themselves and toss the wooks into the closest body of water to clean them up. :D

The last time Phish played, there were lot of complaints from the folks who live in the Fairgrounds neighborhood. Litter, folks sleeping in cars, etc.

Well, I guess this news means it is time to scrape off the old bumper sticker on my car. The one that reads:
"Jerry's dead. Phish broke up. Get a job.";) :p :D

Plus the lines at the Crawfish Monica booth were too long. After three months of homemade veggie burritos, I think all their fans really feel in love with the first fest food booth they came upon.

Jeff says, Amen, I bet they did. Nothing like veggie burritos and goo balls to get you back on a fast food diet :) Just ask Rebirth about the food at High Sierra . . . (or me, ugh!!)

I would guess it involved anything with hooves.

Not alot of love for phish around these parts, too funny! :p

Definitely an acquired taste! (no pun intended)

I'll transcribe more later if I have time, but according to the Clifford book, on Phish day - which was a 1st Friday - attendance was 62,500, compared with 45,000 on the same day the year before. So that's a nice size bump, but not even close to what makes up a crowded day at the Fairgrounds; many big-name good-weather Saturdays draw over 90K.

I love Phish and followed them from their inception, seeing them play at Nectar's and student centers at UVM and Goddard College, all the way through their mammoth air force base shows and multi-night stands at MSG. But as with any band that has its own substantial following (e.g., Buffett, DMB, WSP), I think they are a bad mix with Jazz Fest.

I see what you are saying but I think it would be toned down this time around. I didn't see any problems at WP this time around, good crowd imo.

Two things working in their favor would be the fan-base is older, and it's more expensive to travel now.

But didn't we have some fun wit da w00k and kindjahbrah?

Yes indeed! All right: Hmm, where'd I leave that Xanny bar?

Wooot!

(P.S.) but seriously, it was the phans' behaviors, not so much the number of them... There was some degree of a culture clash, as I recall.

Still: That band has some monster chops, even if ya ain't a big fan of their sound. They can definitely play!!! :) While I never followed them around - I consider their 'reunion' to be good news.

Phish again ?? I wish they would stay broken up. I guess Trey needs his drug/lawyer money. I am a big Deadhead, but never got Phish or any of the other Jam Bands. I never thought of the Dead as anything but a band pointing to the future and not stuck in the past as is the mainstream image of them.
The Phish heads not only caused havoc around the Fairgrounds, when they played the Fest. Quarter residents complained about the all night drum circles in Jackson Square.

No need to be ugly! :p Because no other musicians take drugs ever, nope.

I am a big Deadhead
I think a few of those dudes (like each and every one) needed drug/lawyer money in their time too! Just sayin...;)

When you find a band that has the same sound as those guys, let me know.

Still: That band has some monster chops
Dudes can play for certain.

Trey's supposedly clean/sober these days. Just got through playing with an orchestra at the Ryman > http://www.nashvillecitypaper.com/news.php?viewStory=63015

Sorry, did not mean to offend. I'm just a Deadhead who is tired of the comparisons. I do 'kinda' like Phish and would have liked to see the show in Chicago where they played the Who's Quadraphenia.Peace.

No offense taken, just talking music. Imo it's silly to compare the two, they sound nothing alike.

The one similarity to me would be that thet both cover different genres of music but that's about all I can come up with.

To be fair, I didn't like them at all for a long time either. It took me awhile to get it and their fans (actually some of my buddies) were the main reason I never gave it a chance. Sometimes when someone likes something so much, it sort of pushes you away.

Wow, bitter/nasty much??? I've been to several Phish shows where folks were plenty well bathed, sober (as much as any other major musical concert) and full of joy and love of the music - much as those of us Jazzfest fanatics are . . .

Nice way to generalize and flame.

It smelled more like 80,000 IIRC. The price to get in in '96 was about $12, so only the gainfully employed will get in now;)

In todays day and age with such crappy music everywhere(except Nola) I am very happy to welcome back a group of such fantastic musicians. Bring on The Phish!!!

holy crap, didn't think i'd see a Phish thread on the JF boards, ha! been a big phan for a long time, couldn't be happier that those in the band that needed to get away, deal with personal issuses and get better have done so, and any internal band issues have been resolved. they needed a break.

for me, there is no need for the Phish world to collide with NOLA, necessarily. unless we're talking how it was this year, with Page and Mike sitting in all over the place and sharin' in the groove :)

and let's not generalize the phan base. i'm FAR from a dirty w00k!

also, so glad these comeback shows will not conflict with Jazzfest next year! :D

Go Phish!
