I have been approached by the management of Glen David Andrews....trombone player and cousin of James and Troy. He has one CD out, and is putting out a Gospel CD. He wants to record it live at his church in New Orleans, with full choir, his trombone, organ, drums, bass.
They are looking for 5K to complete the project, and to have it out early next year.
I'm going to do more internet research tonight, and download his first CD from iTunes. Does anybody know anything about him?
I hate turning down worthy projects....and on paper this has potential. But I need to find out more info.

He played/2nd lined last year at Rock n Bowl in between sets of Jon Cleary & Bonerama. He and his band were really good and kept the crowd really engaged between the sets. Got everyone to sing The Gambler.

I am sure people who live in NO know much more about him, but when I lived in the Quarter in 2002, he played regularly in Jackson Square. He is definitely talented, but I think he has faced some struggles since K and lived in a Fema trailer for quite some time. I have seen him perform with New Birth and, I think, the Little Rascals also. He has been on stage with Shorty on a couple of occasions also. We saw him at Rays Room in 2006? with Shorty and he did a big part of the first set, he rocked the house then. He was arrested for a Second Line I believe after the storm, so I have respect for his dedication to keeping the tradition alive.
The most recent thing that I saw him in was the Faubourg Treme Documentary. He is interviewed and plays in the DVD. It is a really good DVD, if you are interested in the History of Treme. You will probably get much more information from the natives here, but he certainly comes from a talented family.

Caught that Rock n Bowl set, we really enjoyed it. He came out into the crowd and stood up on the ball racks & played. Also caught him with the Crescent City All Stars at the Jazz & Heritage Stage. Fantastic set with all the Andrews.
Do you know anything about his choir? Have they ever performed at Fest or maybe a HOB Gospel brunch where folks might have heard them? A gospel with brass band cd sure sounds promising...

He got everyone to sing along to The Gambler?
Isn't that Kenny Rogers watching him play there? :p
I know: I'm bad!

Well, I know someone who dated Glen David for a while and she still really loves him as a person. I marched with her, him and his band when they did a Second Line Parade at Jazzfest '07, and I saw their set on the Jazz & Heritage Stage . . . all I can say is he's extremely talented (but whom of the Andrews family isn't) and I think a gospel recording from him would be a great addition to the T-head Records project list.

Here is the article about him in the Times Picayune from the day he performed at Fest.

Have seen him numerous times, leading his band at Preservation Hall, on stage with the Treme Brass Band in 2006 at Fest, in Jackson Square. Did a tremendous rendition of "Do you know what it means" that year...
Powerful voice...best among the Andrews clan that I've seen. And his trombone playing is also cool.
TSSB had him at day 73 in the countdown last year: (http://www.nojazzfest.com/chat/showpost.php?p=125134&postcount=144)
Heard off and on of his difficulties post Katrina...and of course the second-line brouhaha.

Sounds like a very worthy project and the kind of musician that TH Records is all about supporting. I thought you were done for the year a couple months ago Chris ;) hehe...... Next to impossible to pass up exciting projects.

I think I mentioned this on another thread, but we saw him four times (at least) over Satchmo Fest weekend in August without even trying. Seems like we saw him at the Strut, but I can't find him listed on the schedule.
He played the fest on Saturday, then sat in with the B.I.G.I. (Batiste, Ivan N., George P., Ian N.) group at Balcony that night. I caught the first set and really liked him, though I hear some folks were annoyed with some of his 2nd-set antics.
On Sunday, I think he sat in with James Andrews and the Crescent City All-Stars at the fest, then played late-night at dba. We caught him for a few minutes in-between Marlon Jordan's video shoot sets across the street.
IMHO, he's a very talented horn player that sometimes relies too heavily on some set gimicks that get a good response from a festival crowd (admittedly, this is from my fest-centered perspective!).
What I like MOST about him is that he has a bit more of an edge to him than sweethearts like Kermit, Shamarr, or his cousin Troy. You get the feeling he's been through some sh*t, and he is brave enough to let it show. I hope he keeps going in this direction because it seems like a logical and important place for the Treme-rooted, "street" horn tradition to go, post-K, post-B*sh, post-(fill in next blank you're pretty sure is coming).

i am a huge fan of this guy...we caught him playing with treme at donna's about 3 or so years ago, and havent missed a chance to see him since then. a mighty fine trombone player, and an even better singer IMHO...we caught his fest set this year, and tried to see him one night at the dew drop in treme, but they were a noshow...we walked down to donnas after finding out the show was cancelled, and donna said that she was not surprised about the canceled gig...as others have noted, while the dude is talented as all get out, he often struggles with some "issues"...his vocals on the new birth records are so very very very very good...
