I'm so happy. I got my tickets. Had my watch alarm set and I was off and running at work. I think I seriously have a problem. I was in the middle of suturing some poor guys finger and had to break. Worked it out with him and he actually gave me permission and highfived me ( with the good hand ) when I showed him the receipt. Sweeeeettttttttt
Oh so that was YOU that was helping them stitch up Gumbo Jr. the other day. No wonder they had to go back in hehehe

I gotcha covered. Always up for a little 1st aid at a patry. Gotta keep my friends around, they can't be going off to the hospital and miss the fun. I can still stitch a straight line with an adult beveraage on board ( scarey thought, but it's happened on a few little adventures to Mexico with minimal scarring at that);) :D

This is a great, fun event. I went last year and it was a highlight of the trip. I know you're all in for a wonderful time! I'm keeping fingers crossed for you if you're on the wait list.
Congrats to everyone who worked to put this together this year. You guys rock!

Hi Jumba, welcome. The patry is a party thrown by threadheads and for threadheads. This year will be the 3rd annual. It's been planned by the same folks each year that has become the Jazz Fest event of the season! :)

Forgive my ignorance, but what's the Patry? Hello, everyone!Hello back and welcome, Jumbalaya. I'm not the most qualified to answer, but since I'm here reading your question .... the Patry is a Party given by and for the Threadheads, those who obsessively read and post to the "threads" on this board and find much amusement in perpetuating silly typo's (e.g., "Patry"). The Patry takes places on the Daze Between (the days between the two JazzFest weekends), and features live music and good food, drink and company.

The patry started as a patry put on by 2forthefest and we still think of it as their patry because without them, we wouldn't have it. Because it's gotten bigger-200 this year, counting musicians and caterers, a group of about 20 peeps work on the plans now, with evil1/2 of the 2fors as our fearless leader.

For those who are wondering why we don't make it at a bigger venue than something that holds only a couple hundred people...it is because we want to keep it a backyard party...not a smaller fest during fest....or at a club as a nightshow. It's the intimacy of the backyard party that makes it special. SO, that's why it sells out so fast and why we keep it small. Make sense?

And I forgot to mention azeater. He really started this all with his "Dinner at Commanders" thread a few years ago. Because of misfortunes he has not made the patries. This is very sad, especially last year. He put his tickets up for auction and NOMC made $$$, then he out bid everyone and won, and then put them up again and sweetheart sissy got them on the next round. Ended up with $$$$ to NOMC, and sissy at the patry, but no az. Bummer bro, and we will not forget.

Sorry, I may be wrong on a few points. Not sure if "Dinner at Commanders" led to the patries, that may have been the Acme slurge. The original tickets on ebay -may- have been azs, can't remember now, but he did win that first round and put them back up. I remember cissy and mdfest were the bidders, but you may have been the one who got them, and cissy (and md) got them somewhere else. Godz, it's all a blur now and that was just 12 months ago.

Dinner at Commanders actually led to both. In addition to a group dinner, someody said, hey, what about a crawfish boil (or something like that) -- anybody want to get on the email discussion group? And basically the patry krewe was born. Led to both the slurge and the patry that year.
Hmm, I thought Az bought the first ebay auction tix then put them abck up after which they went again -- to Hornman it sounds like (bet you're glad to get your tix before they sold out this year!) :)

The Crawfish Boil was a fixture for the Pet de Kat Krewe for lotsa years..it was held at Audobon Park, back in the day, there wasnt as much dazze between events. It was a chance for everybody to meet up w/out dashing off to diff. stages at JF. But nobody wanted to put it together anymore (the worker bee's got tired of doin it every year, i don't blame them, puttin up money for keg deposits...etc) in the last few years.
I think with email and IM and this board, it's easier for folks to communicate w/ each other, so there's more and more 'events'.
I recall, the Slurge coming out of this discussion first, and then the next year it became the Patry.
For the years that I paid and went to Crawfish Boil, it was only for fun of meeting up w/ folks...cuz I don't really eat shellfish, BUT, i used to drink lots of cold cold beer and hang out!! (Beer really isn't my thing, but as long as it's cold and frosty right out of the keg...it's kewl).

I will be there one of these years if I live long enough.

didnt know a soul when you arrived, but how about when you left? i love(d) the boils. good food, cold Abita, great people, and perfect weather.
were the bugs served in a boat? i think that was the last year - but they may have hired them twice. i thought 05 or 05 was the first year there was not a boil.

The last pdkk boil was in 2003 (bugs in a boat). In 2004 the pdkk non-boil party was in our backyard.

We used to do almost all of the work for the PDKK boil ourselves, just hired a guy to do the actual boiling. I remember one year Big Joe and I going out and making 2 1/2 buggies of groceries.
But it everyone who worked on it started feeling like it was work, not fun. I think part of the problem was not getting enough people involved, maybe. Then they switched to having the whole thing catered (the boat).
I loved those PDKK boils - especially the ones in Audubon Park. What a beautiful setting.

Hey Maui - don't worry about the Junior/Senior stuff. It is just somethin built into this forum automatically. Once you post 100 times, you are automatically changed to Senior. But it doesn't really mean anything.
And like everyone says, get on that waiting list man. Your odds of getting in may still be good. The patry has a limited number of people, so that's the reason is sold out so quickly. Again, nothing to do with any sort of elitist class system.
