I have a feeling that these two teams are going to be a topic of conversation around these boards. Cubs can clinch today and the White Sox are getting close. I hope the Sox ( "the real Sox, sorry Gumbo" ) wrap it up against the Twins so they can rest/prep for the playoffs during the Cleveland series. It is a GREAT day to be a Chicago baseball fan !!! :)

I am SOOO hoping for a Cusb Sox Series! (Torn, two-sided fan that I am).

Was there to bask in all the glory yesterday at Wrigley. So Sweet. By my count the 2nd historic win for the 2008 Cubs. #1 - Zambrano's no hitter, #2 - division champs 2 years in a row. Many more to come, I hope! Cubs were looking good yesterday and it was extra fun that it was the Cards we beat to clinch the division!!

OK I need more coffee, I don't think I had that many beers in one day since JazzFest.....

So far my Phillies are doing pretty well (fingers and toes crossed) and I still just love my Jays... going to see the final game of the season on Sunday. Jay's v O's at Camden Yards/Baltimore. Taking little Miss Abbie to her very first MLB game! Ordered her a Jay's toddler hat, and will probably get her an O's cap at the game, just to please her other grandfolks who are originally from Bal'mer.
Hope the weather is nice on Sunday! Okay, Blue Jay's! Let's Play Ball!

I can't wait until she's old enough to take up to Toronto and see the Jay's play at the dome... I hope we get her to Boston before they take the Green Monster down, but I have a hunk of that, so she can at least hear stories about when I got to see Matt Stairs play there, too. :)

Well, considering that Abbie is only ONE... aren't they still talking about rebuilding somewhere? That was a hot topic back in 95/96, so I sort of assumed that it was still going on... We had seats right next to the Green Monster back in Sept 95 for the Mariners series... a big hunk ... oh about 9x12 inches of green monster came down on our seats...so we carried parts of it home with us :) I bet my son (a MAJOR bosox fan) still has it somewhere...

No the "new" ownership (they have a few years under their belt now) has no plans to relocate. They have taken advantage of some space throughout, and on top of, the park to add several more seats. We are at just under 37K for paid attendance and sell out every game but the ownership is making money hand over fist so there is very little incentive on their part to build a new park. The locals are pretty adament on keeping Fenway.

Two of the people I sit with in section 147 (I don't use the remodeled section #s) are featured, my fellow scorekeeper Judy C and the guy I sit behind during the playoffs (and dated one summer long ago), Fred.

This is an abomination. What if the game goes 15 innings? I'm becoming more of an anarchist with each passing day.

since most cub fans have not experienced what happens to a bunch of drunken fans when your team comes from behind to win a playoff game, and then a playoff series, and then another, and then win it all, you may not be able to imagine the chaos and even vandalism that can occur.
and consider the frenzy has been building for 100 years, it could be a little intense. so if you live near wrigley, you may want to park your car elsewhere for a while.

luckily we dont have to worry about that this year in STL. i guess we'll just have to follow the Rams, they do have a perfect record so far - all losses.

i just hope the MLB post season has fair weather and even fairer officiating.

The energey was off the wall. I can not see how a home team does not win a game like that when that type of energy is in the house.
I saw the Cubs do the same thing against the Giants 10 years ago, and that game is on the top of my list of all time sport events that I have been to.
It had all the tension and pre-excitement of a game 7.

it doesnt take a riot, just some drunk barfing on your car, or standing on the hood screaming 'we're world champions!'. i bet we all know at least one person we can envision doing that. :o

or cops with new riot gear they need to justify, just waiting for one incident to trigger their over-reaction. oh, never mind, that was STL mardi gras 199?. our post season frolics have been pretty peaceful.

does anyone know if the division playoffs are starting a day later than usual due to the double playoffs the twins had to play, or because they did not have to juggle the yankees and red sox on alternate primetime spots, or some other marketing scheme? at least they didnt schedule any west coast teams to play at home at 10 am this year.

When someone asked me this morning who I thought won the debate I said, "the Dodgers".

Seriously, why would I or anybody else for that matter watch a VP debate when the baseball playoffs are on?

Because the game was over when the Cubs decided to look like our 16 inch softball team. At least our excuse is most of us hadn't played for 20 years or more.

It's quite possible. I think the pressure to win put on by Cubs fans & the media got to them. The Dodgers are going to feel that same pressure here.

Like I said, the Dodgers are under the same pressure here. Unfortunately, the rain never materialized but it is in the low sixties. That could be to the Cubs advantage.

It shouldn't be all that shocking. The Dodgers had the best record in the National League in September. They really came together after Manny arrived, and their pitching was particularly strong in the 2nd half of the season. I've always thought that Piniella was a good manager, but he has trouble once he gets to the playoffs.

Well at least now I can root for Ray's Seafood. Whoever wins the American League will be my team in the series. Speaking strictly as a Braves fan, I can't imagine even watching a minute of the Dodgers/Phils games. If only there were a way both teams could lose.

The White Sox did as well as I expected. They are slooooow. The Rays are a good team. The stadium leaves a lot to be desired though. Any place that has 10 pages of ground rules is not the optimal ballpark. The Cubbies have NO excuse other than they were outplayed and outmanaged.

You Cubbies fans just love your misery, don't you? I guess getting swept in 4 games won't hurt much more than getting swept in 3....

Hey, at least the Cubs made it to the playoffs the last two years. I was wondering which is tougher - blowing a late season lead and missing the playoffs altogether two years in a row, or getting swept out of the playoffs in the first round two years in a row?
