On my way back to Mississippi tomorrow I will exit off in Lafayette for a few hours of slide guitar. Thinking about Tips Saturday night for some more Sonny.

I saw Sonny at Jazzfest in 05 on the first day.. an absolutely amazing player. (I think C.C. Adcock was on either just before or just after Sonny).
Can you suggest a CD of Sonny's that stands out for you? I would have to order in as he is not stocked here in New Zealand.
cheers

We were not able to make the show last night. We are still in Hattiesburg. Hey, I hope our paths cross during Voodoo.

Hey frangooch, I'm not sure either one of us or any other Sonny fan could post an unbias review. <huge smile> Somehow I know you will understand.

Hi frangooch.. all I remember was it was on the 1st day of the 1st week and Sonny was on stage... the Sprint stage from memory. I had never heard of him b4 this. I asked someone standing next to me about him and she said 'he is the BEST slide player!'
He took the stage and delivered a blistering show. What a hot player!

whoa... I thought this show was the shared bill with Roddie Romero. Check this video out from the show with Roddie & Eric joining Sonny's band:

Roddie didn't even PLAY the guitar during his Northern California gigs - guess it wasn't "zydeco" enough - but I knew he was a great slide player from the Acura set at this year's Jazzfest.

Last year at Festivals Acadians, I heard Roddie on the guitar and it magically pulled me right over in front of the stage. :)
He played some guitar at Crawfish Fest this year, if I remember correctly.
