Got this from my friend Kate Golder, who used to live in New Orleans, up until about a year ago... she's quoted in the article. Seems her nephew was there when Dr. John came to give a hand...

That is cool!! So one of the reasons I so like Mac...
When he autographed my photo for the TH raffle he was sincerely interested in what we were doing and why.
He even asked the address of the Patry (which I did disclose to him I know against the rules sorry ..) but I so kept hoping he might just drop by..

Very cool story! Can't wait to see Dr. John again! Thank you for posting, mamaroux, I'd have never seen it otherwise.

Well, I guess it depends on the day, Deni... you must have caught him on a good one. That was lucky for you... sometimes his health gets in the way... of course... I know he gets a lot of lower back pain and have been told his wrists bother him, too.

??
I have only known Mac on the fringes as we have some mutual friends but we have been in the same place at the same time on several occasions and I have never known him to be not personable...he is a bit stand offish maybe... as he is not always feeling so sporty and he is doesn't seem to be a darn glad to meet ya kinda guy... but always found him to be very polite, nice and pretty much accomodating to his fans when asked.
Am I missin something??

"Probably best known for his 1973 hit single "Right Place Wrong Time," an ode to bad luck co-penned by Bob Dylan and Bette Midler"
Is that true?? I've never heard that...and I've heard a lot of things.
I did find this (http://www.clashmusic.com/feature/dr-john). It sounds like they didn't so much co-write the song as add a lyric or two.
But the Doctor found his greatest success (not least as the inspiration for Muppet band leader Dr Teeth) with ’73’s ‘Right Place Wrong Time’, taken from the album ‘In The Right Place’. This loose and funky track, arranged and produced by fellow New Orleans genius Allen Toussaint, received a helping hand from, among others, Bob Dylan. “Yeah, everybody around the recording studio, I’d ask them, “You got a line for this?” Cos I’d been playing this song with the music on it but I didn’t have the words all together,” he admits. “A lot of people gave me lines for it. Bette Midler gave me a line.”
Further confirmation of his status came when he was invited by The Band to appear at their farewell concert, The Last Waltz, in 1976, where he performed his live favourite ‘Such A Night’.
