Has anyone seen Mike Farris in concert? I cannot stop listening to his 2007 cd Salvation In Lights. Looking forward to his two shows in Austin during acl.

Original songs like "Selah! Selah!" and "The Lonely Road" evoke late-period Stax soul and Willie Mitchell's horn-drenched Hi Records funk. Some bear the influence of Tom Waits and Bob Dylan, and others find their groove somewhere between the "oom-pah" of a Crescent City funeral band and the "boom-chick" of a Johnny Cash railroad

"Salvation in Lights" (INO Records) is a traveling
tent-revival of an album, working its way up the banks of the Mississippi River from New Orleans through Memphis and onto points north.

YES. I have seen him twice and really thought he was excellent. I saw him open up for The Blind Boys Of Alabama solo and was knocked out. Then I saw him with his full band and that was even better. His CD Salvation In Lights is great. Go see him in concert and you won't be dissapointed.

He is playing two shows in Austin later this month with full band. Without asking anyone, I went ahead and bought 4 tickets for his Saturday morning Gospel Brunch show at Stubbs Bar BQ. Then he plays acl festival the next day at 3:00. He is #1 on my list out of the 130 bands playing acl this year.

Yes, we saw him at Stubbs Saturday morning and again the next day at acl. Both shows were great but he was able to play longer Saturday. I was able to talk with him before the show Saturday. It sure would be nice to see him in town during JF in 2009.

It would be cool to see him in the gospel tent.

I'm still buzzing from his shows last month in Austin.
Here is a video of one of my favorite songs he plays.

I was really impressed when I heard his CD. I'm not usually too interested in the contemporary music they profile in The Lutheran magazine but this was some good stuff.
