these are the ones I got and returned plus another similar pair. (Kind of manly now that I look at them again). But if they were comfy I would go with it. Besides being too hard my heel lifts out of them with each step. I think they are supposed to but I don't like it. I am looking at more Naots and scoping out sandals for JF. Wish they weren't so $$$!
I have a few pairs of the Dansko Professional Clogs (as shown above) and they are a bit of adjustment for folks used to "regular" clogs (with the closed back and all).

I find them VERY comfy - but they do require a bit of breaking in and getting used to and yes, your heels are supposed to lift in them a certain amount . . . it's a bit of a learning curve, but it's worth it - I LOVE my Danskos!! :D

Earlier I had talked about my trips to the podiatrist this month because of a heel spur and PF. My doctor actually recommended wearing Crocs because they had good support. I do feel better in them. Been having good luck with the feets since the cortisone shot and I'm hoping that will last thru Fest. Felt so good lately that I just bought some more shoes from Zappos, Endless and 6pm. They're all heels and they felt fine when I got them. The big test will be at work or traveling.

LD, if the Crocs are working for you, great! What I found, however, is that when you have PF, you have a tendency to want to wear shoes/sandals with the softest/spongiest soles - they just feel so much better on the damaged feet. My concern is that your heel isn't really getting the support it needs to properly heal all of the little the tears in the fascia. For my money, I've found that I'm better off with a solid, good-fitting running shoe (with a firm sole) and a pair of the Birk inserts.

Abita Girl, I'm late to this thread, but I suffered the horrors of Plantar Fasciitis courtesy of the Fest a couple of years back. I clearly recall being in the condo on the first Saturday of a 10 day Festivus saying "Feets don't fail me now!!!!" It was awful.

Anyway, during the next year, I made a lot of people wealthy. Anybody or anything that promised me relief was purchased, and I must have tried at least 10 different shoe inserts including custom orthotics.

The one thing that worked for me - REALLY worked for me - were these Birkenstock inserts. They cost around $40 at a higher end store that sells "comfort" shoes, but the relief was almost instantaneous. They are cork based so you have to replace them once in a while, but I definitely recommend them - they are amazing. The nice thing is that they fit inside most shoes, so you don't have to blow $250 on high end walking shoes - you're going to take the insoles out anyway, and that's a big part of what you're paying for.

Try em...you'll love em. And they'll fit inside those new sandals of yours, no problem!

While I'm on the topic, I just want to remind everyone that just because a shoe feels comfortable (e.g. crocs) doesn't mean they're good for you. The whole fasciitis thing is caused by the heel moving side to side while the rest of the foot is secured; effectively tearing all of the little ligaments that connect the heel to fascia (the strip of muscle that runs down the centre of the bottom of your foot.) It can take around a year or so to heel...and it is definitely no joke!

Be careful out there, and happy Festing y'all!

So these inserts are made by Birkenstock? Think I could get them online?
See, the thing is I have had four pairs of custom orthotics made in the past 10 years each by a different podiatrist. I still have all four pairs! None of them ever worked great for me. I run and the running exacerbates my heel pain, the only thing that worked to heal the PF was cutting back my mileage by alot. I have tried so many running shoes and am now doing fine with my Asics as long as I keep my mileage under 20 and try to trail run as much as possible instead of running on the road. For day to day shoes, I have to have something with a heel, completly flat shoes (like most flip flops) will cause a flare up. For me, Crocs wouldn't have enough of a heel. I would give those inserts a try though.

Abitagirl, I'm not a podiatrist; I only play one online. :>)

Here's a link to one site that sells the inserts (you might be able to get them cheaper elsewhere).

http://tinyurl.com/2clq2o

I have the casual ones, and although I wear them mostly duing non-athletic use, they seem to work well for me. The thing about them is that they have this "bump" that pushes up on the metatarsal and that tends to take a lot of pressure off of the heel and fascia. It also serves to stretch it a little bit (I think) and that helps in the healing. It takes a day to get used to them, but not nearly as bad as orthotics.

I think the problem with orthotics is that they are designed to align your body properly, not deal with PF. When I went back to the chiropractor to tell her that they weren't working for me, she said: "oh, they won't help your PF, but it will take care of your body mechanics!" Uh, great. I come in crying about my painful feet and you prescibe something that you KNOW won't cure it? What do you say we fix my feet FIRST, and THEN we can deal with my misaligned whatever??

Apparently Lis (Corona) has had pretty good success with her orthotics, but they didn't do a thing for me. I now have a $450 pair of insoles sitiing in my closet... :>(

In so far as the running is concerned, here's the thing: we're getting old. I have come to realize this after much denial, but the fact remains that I can't skate or run without doing at least 15 minutes of stretches for my feet. I think you'll probably have to do stretches like this for the rest of your days, but definitely let the feets heal a little before you run any more marathons!

RE Birkenstock inserts: They apparently sell them at Zappo's, but as I said, you might find a better price elsewhere. It's definitely worthwhile to read the customer reviews on these things - people seem to be happy!

They surely did! No kidding! Gee, if they looked back they should see me spending a wad on New Orleans stuff about this time of year. Although I did have my card stolen on a trip to France (at Versailles, it's rotten with pickpockets at Louis' digs!), reported it about 90 minutes later by the time I'd got back to Paris, so no harm done.

But my card did have a lovely trip to Italy, bought some nice Gucci shoes, mens wear, and paid for about 10 fillups on gas and several long distance phone calls. "Bella, I be home-a soon -- I gotta new shooooos!"

To get back to the "shoes" aspect of this thread, has anyone seen the new Crocs style called the Malindi? It's a really cute ballet slipper type of shoe with a strap across the back. I just got some in pink. They are SO comfortable--even more than the traditional Crocs or some of the other styles I have. The footbed still has the little bumps on it but it has more of an orthotic shape to it. I wore them to work yesterday and they didn't hurt my heel or plantar fascia at all. I am happy. I would insert a picture here, but I am so technically challenged I don't know how to do that.:p

I went to the PGA tour stop here in NO today, and Crocs had a booth there. They are moving in to a lot of other styles this year...even golf spikes!

That wedge is sooooo cool. Can't wear it cause it's too high but I just love the way it looks, especially in black & white. Tried the Malindi but couldn't get it to stay on the foot I drag. Shame the strap isn't adjustable. Hell I can't even wear the Mary Janes but I Love my Caymans. When I was shopping for Crocs last year Dicks Sporting Goods had them made in Mexico, China & Canada. The Mexican crocs were waaay wide. The Chinese crocs were tooooo wide and the Canadian crocs were just right. Now they only have them made in China. I did get some Sketchers that are even lighter than Crocs but they make my feet sweat.

Well I'm not qualified to say it's a fact. But it certainly held true during my one evening of "research". The Crocs website does say they were all made in Canada when they first started. Hell I might even be able to wear a pair of the Canadian mary janes. Wonder if they'd pick out a pair of those for me if I were to order off the site. Doubt it.

Sure do wish there was a way to slice a half to an inch off the back of those wedges.

Well, you never know. Give them a call. They may be very accommodating. And while you have them on the phone, ask if they are going to come out with a lower wedge style. It seems that they have been coming out with a lot of new shoes just in the past year.

Always buying sneakers? It's the sign of a leader: poll
Tue Apr 1, 9:50 AM ET

NEW YORK (Reuters Life!) - Got a passion for buying sneakers? It could be a good sign, with a poll finding that people who buy three pairs of sneakers or more a year are far more likely to be a leadership type than other people.

Mindset Media, a media company that examines personality traits of different consumers, found that people who buy more than three pairs of sneakers a year are 61 percent more likely to have the qualities of a modern leader.

These qualities were defined as having ideas and vision, and a style with others that is both inclusive and decisive.

The survey of 7,500 people, using market research group Nielsen's online panel, found multi-sneaker buyers were 50 percent more likely to be very assertive and 47 percent more likely to be spontaneous.

Lauren Arvonio, a spokeswoman for Mindset Media, said sneaker buyers were more likely to fly by the seat of their pants.

"It is often said you can tell a lot about a person by the shoes they wear, and now we have some hard data to back that up," Arvonio told Reuters.

"What is interesting is that these personality traits held true across the board, regardless of age, income, or gender."

Previous Mindset Media surveys found that people who pay their credit card bills off each month were more likely to be "highly deliberate," thinking through their actions, but also less modest than others, likely to brag about their habits.

Hybrid car owners were found to be 78 percent more likely to be highly creative than other people and less dogmatic.

I LOVE my borne sandels! I bought a pair 3 years ago not knowing the brand( I just thought they were cute because they were pink and had a bow). They turned out to be the one shoe I wore almost the whole time because of comfort and support. Just bought another pair in a blue thong style.

Good morning shoe girls (and lurking boys), wanted to share my new JF sandals with y'all. Got a Zappos delivery Friday. I originally tried the Naots BRAND based on all of your advice and good reviews and ended up loving the shoes I got. I needed comfy shoes for our Euro adventure and you shoe experts steered me towards Naots. I wore them all over Amsterdam, walking for miles every day and then dancing in them all night and they were like wearing bedroom slippers. I became a true convert. Now looking towards summer, I went to Zappos and picked out three pairs of Naot sandals to try out for fest 08. Here are the winners, I'd keep them all if they weren't so expensive. Wore them all day yesterday and they are as comfy as can be - no break in required. THANKS for all of your fab shoe advice!

bluedog you are hilarious!!!! The flip flops are cute Amy. I'm looking at the keens venice in pink...so cute and the reviews on zappos look great for people with foot problems. I'm thinking maybe rotating these, with crocs like Saturns (found pink ones on ebay :), and hopefully finding a comfortable pair of flip flops. Keens have some I may look into further. No screwing around with my footwear this year. I hear ya on the wanting to amputate your feet Michelino. It was HELL last year and I lost the whole Meters show at CAC last year cuz i needed to sit. It was brutal. Had to take percocet to get through Dragon Smoke after the patry last year too.

If we get the massive puddles on site like we did last year, someone quite smartly suggested the rubberised rock hopping type of shoe that some windsurfers and board sailors wear, and I have already put a pair in my travel bag.Because the are an easier option than Gumboots,Wellingtons or whatever you want to call them.

But how the heck do you decide to bring them along in the morning? A lot to haul around all day while the "sunshine" builds up and finally lets loose at about 6:00 pm in torrents of "sunshine"!

Put straps on them and sling them over your shoulder? Think of all the ice you can put in one for the beverages! Loose change, suntan lotion, glasses, etc in the other one.

They are very stylish,in fact a couple of Festivals I have been at where the drops are known to come down sell, the leopard print type for the groovers.
I find them too hot and heavy for my liking though.

I'm not sure I would wear them ... I just like them. ;)

And there are some of us who can't stand or walk more than an hour without wearing crocs. My only other option is barefoot.

That's why I stick with LL Bean shoes. They're comfy, sturdy & always work with my orthotics!

And don't forget to leave a pair of big, snuggly white socks in there. ;)

There was a cheaper pair, but honestly, these were lighter weight and had better arch support, very comfy... (am I really talking about arch support in shrimpin boots? )

Big fan of the Keens. Own several of their sandals, shoes and boots. For Fest, I find it essential to have at least a few different pairs of the sandals to rotate, lest you be cursed with the dreaded stinkfoot (cue Zappa...). The toebox is nice, but it sure enhances the stink factor.

Chica, how did I know you'd be back on this perennially busy pre-fest thread....;)

Now, can you actually drink and walk in those shoes? Jeez girl, I don't wanna be hauling your butt around the fairgrounds in a wheelchair. As Ross is not coming to Fest this year, we won't be able to hitch a ride on his pimped out golf cart.

Nothing more important than shoes for the Fest. I think crocs are the greatest, especially during rain or threat of rain. I can't believe how comfortable and cool they are. Love the ones you posted. I've never seen those before. The only problem with crocs are that you can slip very easily if you hit a puddle or anything slippery.

For those who like the support and lightness of Crocs but still want something like shrimp boots, Crocs now has boots. I took them to Fest last year because I was flying and they are very lightweight to pack in suitcases. Also, I had a heel spur on my right foot and Crocs were about the only flat shoe I could wear. With the "sunshine" we had last year, they came in really handy. The only problem with them was that they did fill with r@!n because they are open at the top. Since I am driving to Fest this year, I will bring my regular r@!inboots that close over at the top. But just a suggestion....

I bought a pair of Naot sandals a few years ago when my feet were killing me in Las Vegas and never looked back. They'd be great for Jazz Fest. The Good Feet store on Severn by Breaux Mart has a great selection of Naot. Lots of sandals by Naot and other comfort shoe lines too. Prices are better than what I see at the big online shoe stores with the bonus of shopping local. I just got a flip flop in zebra print with really good support for that type shoe. I'll post pics when I figure out how.

Funny you posted this right after I posted. My husband and I own the Good Feet Store in Metairie and I almost added Moszkitos to my last post. We had a customer today, who told us to get on here and let people know what we have. Once I figure out how to add pictures I will. They are awesome shoes for jazz fest and we picked them up for our store last week. We have the Archy Wedge in Light Brown Croc if you want to try it on, it's in the store. They are really cute and as comfy as any flip flops I've ever seen. A friend was with me when we got them in and she bought a pair immediately and wore them while we walked around NOMA and the sculpture garden.
