my feet sucked so bad at Crawfish Fest...I really don't know what to do anymore. Sitting would likely be a good place to start....do you think it's my feet or because I never sit? It's not just the PF, they are just sore all over no matter what shoes I wear....

Corona, so sorry to hear about your aching feet.:(
I can't wear the Keens, either! I danced in them for a few hours at my daughter's graduation party and I got the worst blisters I've had since 2002. I thought they'd be okay for a couple of hours, but I was wrong!

Also, when the Crocs get wet, they blister my feet on the tops, so they kind of defeat the purpose.

I guess part of this problem might be the way our feet are made and the way we use them.

I have high arches and narrrow heels. Some shoes I have worn for fests include Ariat, which are for equine enthusiasts. But they also make some cute styles in sandals and mules. They have an excellent support/comfort system. I have one pair of their sandals in pink leather that are adorable.

Another brand I like is Cole-Haan. They started incorporating Nike technology into their soles. I have 3 pairs of their shoes in different styles and they never give me any problems.

I also like Dansko for standing for great lengths of time. They give really great arch support.

Sometimes, I will wear ankle boots for ankle support. I have one pair of black ones that are a German brand and I will cry when they bite the dust.

Also, for nights, I sometimes wear Luchesse boots. They are handmade in Texas. The pair I have are made of doe skin and they are very soft. I don't wear socks with these. Luchesse boots fit perfectly from the first time you put them on. The first time I wore mine, I went out dancing in them for about 4 hours the same day I bought them. No problem.

Wearing sandals with thin straps, like Teva, can be bad for the feet, too. A podiatrist told me that sandals with thin straps that cross over your feet can cause bunions.

Like FJ says, streching the Achille's is really important. I think it's important to vary the height of the heel of shoes, too. I guess rest is important in the healing process, but it sure is hard when you hear the music start!

My guess it's being on your feet so much.

When I started working at the store and walking 6-8 hours at a time, I had to get shoes with LOTS of cushion and bounce in the soles. Keds, flip-flops, leather bottom sandals just wouldn't cut it... I'd be hobbling by the end of the day.

If I were you, the FIRST thing I'd try is NOT GOING BAREFOOT. :D

I think it is also what you are doing when you are on your feet. I recently did a series of long clinical days, walking the hospital unit continuously for over 8 hours - and my feet didn't give me any trouble (admittedly wearing expensive and ugly nursing-type walking shoes).

But standing will kill my feet, and even dancing doesn't necessarily create the kind of movement that walking does -- I sometimes boogie without moving my feet a lot. Those are the times I have trouble with my feet.

Sissy, I have some Ariats that I love. Some mules in brown and black. They were the first pair of shoes that convinced me that a raised heel would help PF. I'm going to look for the cole-haan too. I love a good arch but Danskos were too stiff for me.
and Saturn, YYR, on standing still or boogieing without moving the feet. You gotta move the feet to ward off the pain.

So I went to my little rock shoe store yesterday to check on an order. I had returned a pair after fest because I noticed the cobbler forgot to sew one of the pieces. And they were having a buy one get one free sale! So I found 2 pairs of dansko sandals-one blue and one off white with little flower embroidered on, and got them both for $118! The sandals are softer than the clogs, imo.
Also they are ordering these for me to try. I couldn't find my size on zappos and wanted to be able to return for free.

lol, I know CBH....I know :)

Having said that though, I've spent so much money now on good shoes and the Ryka sneakers I bought were one of the worst pairs to wear during fest. Great for working out in and stuff but I think I just spend way too many hours on my feet at fests. The PF isn't bad....like I said, it's an overall pain....I think i need to try something with a bit of a heel...I wore wedgie sandals Saturday night and they were fine....until I was drunk and then I had to take them off for balance reasons lol!!!

I think you hit the nail on the head with that one Saturn.....they definitely don't hurt as much when walking vs. standing and dancing at a concert. They just feel bruised all over during those times....

Ditto here. I can walk or dance all day in a slight wedge. But if I have to stand in place or walk a slow pace for more than 30 minutes in flats, even the dansko clogs (Home Depot, Wal-Mart, etc)..forgettaboutit....spasm city:confused:

Last night I saw someone wearing a really nice and supportive looking sandal. The brand name was Theresia M; she thinks they might be German. They're also $100+, but they're the style I've been searching high and low for (a wide band with velcro across the top of the foot, with an adjustable ankle strap).Looked em up online - make that $185! OUCH! Too expensive for me.

Yippee! I got the blue naots yesterday. My shoe store in LR ordered them for me to try and I love them. I had seen them online for around 130 and was ready to pay that. But one shoe salesman asked the other how much they were and he said $100! Woohoo!

OK, gals, check these out -- award-winning high heel insoles developed by an MIT scientist, $9.99 at CVS. I first read about them in a newspaper article entitled: "Comfy heels? Turns out it is rocket science!" I just got a pair last night, haven't tried them yet, but judging by the testimonials on the website, I'm hoping that I might actually be able to wear heels again for the first time in many, many years. http://www.insolia.com I will report back once I've put them into one of my two remaining pairs of 2" heel pumps and worn them for a day at work.

BTW, the Clark's sandals from shoebuy.com weren't comfortable for me, am waiting for another pair, different brand/style (Springstep) in exchange.

When I was about 15 and bemoaning my size 10s, that's what my papa told me... well girlie you can wish for little feet but you'd look ridiculous and you'll fall over! :D

My little sister has size 11s and dear old mum never thought it was worth the cash to put her in decent shoes so she grew up in thongs (flip flops on your side of the pond) and now her feet are so bloody wide that buying shoes is a nightmare.

My dear mother-in-law always insisted that "you can't scrimp on good shoes for your child" and luckily I worked near a lovely family-owned shoe store where they painstakingly fitted the kids every time, you could buy Stride Rite for $25 when they were $50 in dept. stores AND they gave out lollipops! Thanks for commiserating and feeling my pain, gals. I thought of having them relined, but it would probably be kind of ridiculously expensive. Well, it's been ages since I was on the bored, but I am so happy to see that my favorite thread is still going strong!!

Since fest I have probably bought at least 10 more pairs of shoes--being the shoe ho that I am. I figure that as long as my fat a** can't get into anything more stylish than the potato sacks they sell at fat clothes stores, I might as well have good looking shoes. And one of my best finds were the tie-dyed Crocs that I got at Dillards--yes, real Crocs are now tie-dyed.

I also wear a 10, but it is merely to save my face--with my chest I would have keeled over and broken my nose years ago.:p

Thanks, Bonnie. I will try them. Just got back from a trip to Minneapolis. Unfortunately, flew in on the same day that Bush was there and he made my plane circle for 45 minutes until we were diverted to Rochester, MN for 1 1/2 hours until he cleared the air space. By that time, I got caught in all those storms up there and they gave away my rental car. Anyone who says business travel is glamorous is full of cr*p. Anyway, I consoled myself by going to Mall of America after my meeting the next day. Made a run through DSW and I am proud to say that I walked out without a purchase. My wallet thanks me.

It was only a year ago when only pre-schoolers and mental patients wore these. But now grownups, all over America, have gone Croc crazy. The latest step in our unending quest to dress as casually as humanly possible.

You know, I used to wear flip-flops, but they were a little dressy. I want clothing I can hose down!

Admit it: we're a nation of slobs who won't be happy until we can go to the mall in a diaper.

I think I gotta go shopping for some nice work pumps for the first time in years (also think I'll bring some of the Insolia inserts with me to try on with the shoes).

my shoe addiction has been held in check for the past few months due to swelling of de' feets (reason unknown, but seems to be better).
my big summer purchase was a pair of mary jane croc's. i'm hooked. when i bought them at discount store, they only had brown or black in that style. the brown worked well with my swimsuit and i could wear them to work more easily.
i get so many compliments on them - many folks like them better than the clunky original style. but now i want some pretty colored ones. but it seems there are lots of different styles in on-line world. decisions, decisions.
while online browsing, i read that the reason the real croc's are so much better than the knock-offs is that the material they use is patented.

i confess, i found a couple pair of replacement sandals last week. beige canvass and black canvass, to replace some that have about had it. but shoes must be tossed to make room for new ones. the 'shoe room' is at capacity.
i need a meeting.

Have you ever met someone for the first time and knew within minutes that the person was from the same tribe as you?

I remember meeting corona for the first time at The Patry in 2006. After our initial hugs and how-do-you-do's, she was checking out my shoes within 2 minutes! I thought to myself,"This girl may be almost as bad of a Shoe Ho as I am!"
It brought a smile to my heart!

I just found out about www.endless.com

It's amazing. They have about 4 Web pages devoted entirely to women's rainboots. And they are cute, too! Hmmm...do I like the Chooka Zebra Rose design, or should I get the Koi Tattoo pattern?

Check out the Donald J. Pliner women's erotic boot. Makes me wonder if they have a men's erotic boot, but I was too busy lusting after shoes to check.

All I can say is, Santa doesn't have any excuse to bring the wrong size or color this year, and I already fired off my wish list to him! There are also about 54 pages of handbags, too.

Right now, they are offering Negative $5 free shipping for a limited time. They also offer a 110% price guarantee all of the time. I have never transacted business with this comapny, but I'll be sure to rate them in case anyone might be interested in shopping with them.

True to my word, thought I'd share my experience with endless.com.

They did what they promised. I ordered 2 pairs of boots on Saturday and they arrived on Monday. (UPS does not deliver on Sunday)

They deducted $5 from the total for the free shipping minus $5 promo.

The boots are perfect, so I have not had experience with returns or customer service. But, I suppose these areas are where companies need to work the hardest to keep their customers satisfied.

As for their 110% price guarantee, well, I'm so happy with the product and price that I won't be doing any price comparisons in the next 2 weeks.

They did what they said they would do, and it was a very uncomplicated transaction, so, for me it was a very positive experience.

I think I'm going to bring Tevas again this year. The Teva flip-flops that you all bought on ebay last year (and me too - with your and pokerchick's encouragement) really stood up to the test....best money I spent.

I agree and the chaco leather flip flops were perfection on the arches.....lots of shoes to bring, lots of switching around needed by the end of the trip last year...it was the teva flips and the chacko flips that I could tolerate. Everything else was packed away...too much pain involved.

Brought this thread back up to the front. Last year I read all about the right shoes to wear with heel spurs and plantar fascitis (?) with mild interest. I have had a spur that flares up occasionally, but no big deal....until six months ago. Now it hurts all the time and I cannot wear flat shoes anymore unless I can put heel cups in them. That doesn't always do the trick. I walk a tremendous amount since I travel a lot for business and usually have to walk the length of the airport for a connection. I am in real pain here. I finally broke down and made an appt with a podiatrist in two weeks. But I am already wondering what I will wear to Fest all day. I can still tolerate my Crocs, but anything else without a 2 inch heel does not work. I refuse to walk around the Fairgrounds in dress shoes!! :eek: Any suggestions??? I know a lot of people talked about it in the threads last year, but I really don't want to search through all those. Help! Getting old and fat sucks.

My issue was plantar fascitis. For it, the only thing that works for me at the fairgrounds is New Balance 1010. It may be 7070. I can't really tell on the shoe. With those half shoe inserts. Is your pain a spur that you can feel or is it located around the heel area and to the inside of the arch? Could be PF. For PF, stretching the foot both ways regularly and taking mobic has helped tremendously. At night, i'll be in at least 1 inch heels.
NAOT is the brand of shoe I now wear when not wearing tennis shoes. I miss my Merrells a lot and pull them out on occasion. But the pain flares up before the day is over. :(

luvdancin
02-03-2008, 11:10 AM
It's an actual spur that I can feel. Sometimes if I put in those inserts from Dr. Scholl's, I can make it through the day with a small amount of pain. But recently I was in NY and limped my way through the whole trip. Very professional! I will check out the NAOTs. I've heard that brand mentioned before. Thx.

Luv, from everything I've heard, don't let the podiatrist talk you into pricey custom-made orthotics/inserts. Several people I know who got them, wore them once or twice and then never again. I met a woman at JazzFest last year who wore, sells, and swears by some pretty radical looking (and pricey) shoes - http://www.zcoil.com/ No endorsement implied, just throwing it out there.

So, my most recent mail order sandals have not worked out. Am waiting for a pair of Propet Tahoe Walkers. The search continues .....

I wear Zcoils to work in. My kids call them my "Spiderman" shoes, and Mrs. RT doesn't like me wearing them out in public!
I wear them 'cause I'm on my feet all day on cement and they are supposed to be good for your back. I have a herniated disc and I'm always looking for comfort. I'm not sure that they are a miracle cure, but I keep wearing them because I'm afraid of what my back will feel like if I stop! :eek:

Willie Nelson wears New Balance. I don't know if he has issues w/ PF, or what model # he wears, or if he receives any royalties, but, if they're good enough for Willie Nelson, they're good enough for me!:)

NB is one brand I can wear straight out of the box, brand-new, and not have any break-in time. Even though the cardinal rule for festing footwear is to Never Wear New Shoes To Jazz Fest, I have been able to do so with NB.

Funkkjunkie, I like the stretching exercises you use. Even though I don't have any diagnosed problems or foot dysfunction, I find them helpful. You gotta pamper those feet!

Fest must be gettin' close - my new fest sandals arrived yesterday. Gonna try a Teva sport sandal this year. Gonna break 'em in at Langerado.

Used to wear Birk's, but the style that I had was discontinued and I haven't found a suitable (fest) replacement.

But it's about plantar fascitis. have you been to see the doc yet? My two shoe stores are connected and owned by the same person. ONe is a New Balance store, as in that's all they sell, and the other is a European shoe store called Sole Solutions. And these guys know their stuff. I"ve seen them work with peeps with all kinds of foot issues. Maybe you can find a store like that. Do you ever come to Little Rock? :)
One inch heel or higher is key for plantars. Or the support of an athletic shoe.

Barb, since they're clogs, I can just slip 'em on & off and not spend my time doing the laces or buckles. Time is money, you know!:p

I buy mine at my local tack shop. They were having a Buy 1 - 2nd pair 1/2 off promo. I needed a new pair of boots anyway, so the sale helped. I can usually get two years use from them, so the green fabric ones from last year can go to JF this year.

Since they were new last year, I was afraid of the potential for them getting ruined in mud. Another thing is that I have never gotten blistered from them even right out of the box, there's no break-in period. And we all know that blisters = a PITA.

I tried a pair of Keens last year and those suckers tore me up!

Those are sooooooo cute, Corona.
Abita girl, I've said it before and I"ll say it again.
To survive plantar fascitis and a lot of walking, you have to give up the cute shoes for a big part of the day and go with the new balance, and since I just bought a new pair yesterday, let me tell you they will cost you a pretty penny! I also put a pair of half shoe inserts in my NB.
Also get an anti inflammatory that works for you and take it religiously. Mobic is my drug of choice. Do the exercises described above. If you can just wear an athletic shoe until your foot or feet recover, then you can switch to Naots or Danskos. But always go back to the athletic shoe when you start to feel the plantar pain.
AND get shoes with a one inch heel or taller.
I have 3 pairs of slip on sandals and two pairs of clog types. Danskos work for many here but the sole is just too hard for my foot.
One more thing, once you get the foot heeled, you can back off the anti inflammatory and just take it every few days, unless you get a flare up.
Good luck!
AND have one in one of those Amsterdam coffee shops for me!

Hey FJ, which model of the New Balance shoe did you go for...not sure if it's somewhere in this thread...how did this get so darn long? Just points out how important feet are to festing. Your advice above is terrific -- I have complications now that make the PF really a lesser issue than the crumbling knee -- so I'm now on Celebrex. But I used to do quite well starting to take Advil or any other NSAID about a week before Fest, ramp up the dosage to the max, then keep it at the top until a few days after Fest, then taper off.

I have had 2 pairs of the 1010. The salesgirl said the updated version, the 1011 should be in their store in a week or so. She talked me into the 1123 which is white and dark maroon, and is a similar shoe. The 1010 is white, grey and yellow.

its time for my annual lecture on the perils of OTC pain meds and alcohol consumption. basically, dont. below was clipped from websites. do your own research - like most subjects, there are plenty of contradictions on the web. ask your doctor. everyone's body is different, but the liver damage may not show up for a long time. i've found coated aspirins work for the morning after headaches without bothering my stomach, but evidently even that is risky. after reading all this stuff, my head & tummy hurt.

Here is the warning by the manufacturer on Advil:
Ibuprofen may cause drowsiness, dizziness, or blurred vision. Alcohol may intensify these effects and increase the risk of accidental injury. Use of alcohol during ibuprofen therapy increases the risk of stomach irritation and bleeding. People taking ibuprofen should avoid alcohol.

i found this but not could not find the basis for it in the website they attached - but i didnt look that hard. Ibuprofen prevents the body from getting rid of water and salt so indeed it is already a "burden" not only to the liver but kidneys as well. http://www.umm.edu/altmed/drugs/ibuprofen-066400.htm

Another source says taking Tylenol (aceteminophin) with alcohol is the worst as it releases a metabolite called P450 that when mixed with alcohol has toxic effects and can cause liver failure.
Although the side effects are severe, it seems as though you will be fine if you don’t drink excessive amounts of alcohol while taking Ibuprofen and not make a habit out of it.
info on tylenol, liver failure, and alcohol:
http://www.straightdope.com/columns/000929.html
http://www.envtox.ucdavis.edu/cehs/TOXINS/acetalc.htm

Aleve, which i found really worked for some aches & pains, is really scary.
in addition to below, it says you should take it if you smoke. real risky for folks with circulatory or heart problems. yikes.
http://www.drugs.com/aleve.html
What should I avoid while taking Aleve?
Do not use any other over-the-counter cold, allergy, or pain medication without first asking your doctor or pharmacist. Many medicines available over the counter contain aspirin or other medicines similar to Aleve (such as ibuprofen or ketoprofen). If you take certain products together you may accidentally take too much of this type of medication. Read the label of any other medicine you are using to see if it contains aspirin, ibuprofen, or ketoprofen. Do not drink alcohol while taking Aleve. Alcohol can increase the risk of stomach bleeding caused by Aleve. Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight. Aleve may increase the sensitivity of the skin to sunlight. Use a sunscreen and wear protective clothing when exposure to the sun is unavoidable.

http://www.drugs.com/MTM/aspirin.html
Avoid drinking alcohol while you are taking aspirin. Alcohol may increase your risk of stomach bleeding
Before taking aspirin, tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs, or if you have:
asthma or seasonal allergies;
stomach ulcers;
liver disease;
kidney disease;
a bleeding or blood clotting disorder;
heart disease, high blood pressure, or congestive heart failure;
gout; or
nasal polyps.
If you have any of these conditions, you may need a dose adjustment or special tests to safely take aspirin.

Hey, I was waiting for the shoe thread to pop up again. Well, finally went to the podiatrist for the damn heel spur and plantar flafla. It was pretty inflamed by the time I got there. Could only wear shoes with 1 inch heels and gel heel cups. He took an xray and the spur was not pretty. Anyway, I was on steroids for 10 days and it really helped a lot. Then last Tuesday, I went in and got a cortizone shot. It didn't hurt as bad as I was expecting. Since then, I have had no problems. It still tweaks on me every once in awhile, but I am wearing cuter shoes again and I can walk thru an airport without looking like I'm 90 years old. He gave me some exercises to do and said that if I needed another shot before Fest to come in and get it. So far, so good. He also said that wearing Crocs are good around the house because they have good support so I have been doing that too. Of course, I have 5 thousand pairs of Crocs so no problem there. :D

Yes, ditto what funkkjunkie says about the Cox-2 Inhibitors. I used one of them briefly for a shoulder injury that resulted from cracking up on my bicycle. Didn't seem to do much for me, either. My MD is not even a big fan of NSAIDs, but he will prescribe prednisone if I need it.

I don't have foot problems as yet, but I torqued my lower back last fall & the prednisone was GREAT! It had me back to normal activities in 2 days. I'd take that stuff everday if I could! :)

Good post, Barb. Just use OTC pain meds in moderation.
Too bad we can't have medical marijuana, huh?:)

Public Health Advisory
Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug Products (NSAIDS)

The FDA is issuing a public health advisory concerning use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug products (NSAIDS) including those known as COX-2 selective agents.

Recently released data from controlled clinical trials showing that the COX-2 selective agents (Vioxx, Celebrex, and Bextra) may be associated with an increased risk of serious cardiovascular events (heart attack and stroke) especially when they are used for long periods of time or in very high risk settings (immediately after heart surgery).

Preliminary results from a long-term clinical trial (up to three years) suggest that long term use of a non-selective NSAID, naproxen (sold as Aleve, Naprosyn and other trade name and generic products), may be associated with an increased cardiovascular (CV) risk compared to placebo.

While the results of these studies are preliminary and conflict with other study data on the same drugs, FDA is providing this advisory as an interim measure, pending further review of data that continue to be collected. Specifically:

Physicians prescribing Celebrex (celecoxib) or Bextra (valdecoxib), should consider this emerging information when weighing the benefits against risks for individual patients. Patients who are at a high risk of gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding, have a history of intolerance to non-selective NSAIDs, or are not doing well on non-selective NSAIDs may be appropriate candidates for COX-2 selective agents.
Individual patient risk for cardiovascular events and other risks commonly associated with NSAIDs should be taken into account for each prescribing situation.
Consumers are advised that all over-the-counter (OTC) pain medications, including NSAIDs, should be used in strict accordance with the label directions. If use of an OTC NSAID is needed for longer than ten days, a physician should be consulted.
Non-selective NSAIDs are widely used in both over-the-counter (OTC) and prescription settings. As prescription drugs, many are approved for short-term use in the treatment of pain and primary dysmenorrhea (menstrual discomfort), and for longer-term use to treat the signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. FDA has previously posted extensive NSAID medication information at http://www.fda.gov/cder/drug/analgesics/default.htm.

FDA will be analyzing all available information from the new studies of Vioxx, Celebrex, Bextra, and naproxen, and other data for non-selective NSAIDs and COX-2 selective products to determine whether additional regulatory action is needed. An advisory committee meeting is planned for February 2005 which will provide for a full discussion of these issues.

its time for my annual lecture on the perils of OTC pain meds and alcohol consumption. basically, dont. below was clipped from websites. do your own research - like most subjects, there are plenty of contradictions on the web. ask your doctor. everyone's body is different, but the liver damage may not show up for a long time. i've found coated aspirins work for the morning after headaches without bothering my stomach, but evidently even that is risky. after reading all this stuff, my head & tummy hurt.

Before taking aspirin, tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs, or if you have:
asthma or seasonal allergies;
stomach ulcers;
liver disease;
kidney disease;
a bleeding or blood clotting disorder;
heart disease, high blood pressure, or congestive heart failure;
gout; or
nasal polyps.
If you have any of these conditions, you may need a dose adjustment or special tests to safely take aspirin.
.

Hmmm, this sounds like serious.For a fact, NSAIDS WILL jack up your BP, but it's like Mark Twain said ,"all things in moderation- including moderation". Besides , if you drink the proper amount, you shouldn't have pain, therefore you don't need asprin or tylenol or advil. If you DO have pain after lubricating you are obviously bad off and should go straight to the narcs. Barb's right don't drink and take pills. Not even the supposed benign ones.There ,that's my addendum to the public service anouncement.

Well, she could, Saturn, she could! ;)
:D

AAhh.....I will do just that! Okay, I ordered a few things off of Zappos. didn't like either of the Danskos, they just feel too hard and they're already on the way back. But the Naots.......LOVE them. I've worn them two days in a row to check them out and they might just be the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn. thanks for that reco, I had never even heard of the brand. My PF is "in remission", it always flares when I increase my running mileage or try to train for a marathon. I wear orthotics in my running shoes and have tried do many different things over the years including exercises, injections, multiple splints and at least 8 brands of running shoes (anyone have that sock splint to wear at night? It sucks) but it seems like I am just not able to increase my mileage over 15 to 20 a week without a flareup. alas.
anyway, but here are the shoes, I will wear them In Amsterdam and will be smiling from my head to my toes!

here's an interesting story ... so i'm returning a pair of sneakers to Payless the other day and I walk in the store, it had just opened, and the store clerk wasn't around so I wait at the counter for a few moments .... waiting waiting waiting. Suddenly a man bolts out the front door from the back of the store and the clerk comes up from the back of the store woth tears in her eyes (young beautiful girl maybe 19-20 very sweet & dedicated to her work) She is waving her hands in front of her face and could not even speak to tell me what had happened. I asked if we needed to get his tag # from his car as he was getting away ... she nodded yes ... so I set my purse down & tried run after him but he was quick and knew what he was doing ( had parked his vehicle way out in the parking lot) I did not get his tag and he did get away. When I got back to the store she was able to tell me that this F@#%&R had come in & lured her to the back of the store to ask for a size 13 in a womens shoe. When she said 'no we don't carry a size that big for women' he then exposed himself to her and under his clothing he was wearing womens lingerie and then grabbed her boobs and ran out of the store. :eek: :confused: This poor girl was trying to wait on customers in between all of this ... I finally got her to stop and call her boss & call the cops ... she still couldn't even get the words out of her mouth when she called her boss & cops to tell the story so i had to tell them. I feel so bad for her ... she will scarred for the rest of her life.

Abita Girl, I'm late to this thread, but I suffered the horrors of Plantar Fasciitis courtesy of the Fest a couple of years back. I clearly recall being in the condo on the first Saturday of a 10 day Festivus saying "Feets don't fail me now!!!!" It was awful.

Anyway, during the next year, I made a lot of people wealthy. Anybody or anything that promised me relief was purchased, and I must have tried at least 10 different shoe inserts including custom orthotics.

The one thing that worked for me - REALLY worked for me - were these Birkenstock inserts. They cost around $40 at a higher end store that sells "comfort" shoes, but the relief was almost instantaneous. They are cork based so you have to replace them once in a while, but I definitely recommend them - they are amazing. The nice thing is that they fit inside most shoes, so you don't have to blow $250 on high end walking shoes - you're going to take the insoles out anyway, and that's a big part of what you're paying for.

Try em...you'll love em. And they'll fit inside those new sandals of yours, no problem!

While I'm on the topic, I just want to remind everyone that just because a shoe feels comfortable (e.g. crocs) doesn't mean they're good for you. The whole fasciitis thing is caused by the heel moving side to side while the rest of the foot is secured; effectively tearing all of the little ligaments that connect the heel to fascia (the strip of muscle that runs down the centre of the bottom of your foot.) It can take around a year or so to heel...and it is definitely no joke!

Be careful out there, and happy Festing y'all!

Earlier I had talked about my trips to the podiatrist this month because of a heel spur and PF. My doctor actually recommended wearing Crocs because they had good support. I do feel better in them. Been having good luck with the feets since the cortisone shot and I'm hoping that will last thru Fest. Felt so good lately that I just bought some more shoes from Zappos, Endless and 6pm. They're all heels and they felt fine when I got them. The big test will be at work or traveling.

Just a little note -- what caused your fasciitis is not necessarily the cause for everyone else's fasciitis. It can be caused in a variety of ways, depending on the person's foot structure and activity.

So Crocs might be a poor choice for you because of the mechanism that causes your problem, but might be the right choice for someone else.
