luv, you know zappos has crocs, right? Shipped to your door free with free return shipping. The man at the shoe store asked me if I wanted a job. A lady was looking for shoes but her, oh so impatient, man was with her. She said she had heel pain. Well, that's all it took and i was trying to convince her this was where she needed to shop.

those are gorgeous - i have boot envy.
the one year i couldn't find my shrimp boots before we left home and it r**ned 1st weekend - we forced friends to bring them 2nd weekend and the sun was out the whole time. they used to make me drag them inside fest too - worked for many year, then about 3 years ago the magic wore off. so now i bring cute boots, but i'd trade them for yours.

Oh yes, I'm intimately familiar with Zappos and all the brands on it--so is my credit card. I was just looking at the site, but then I buy on Zappos. Makes a lot more sense. But you guys also had me curious about ebay. I think I am the only American who has never looked at the site, much less bought anything on it. Very cool. You can also get a wide variety of Airwalks (just like Crocs) on there. I have two bids in right now on shoes. Help me Lord.

Oh, gawd, i'm an ebay junkkie. I am currently in the middle of a ban I had to put on myself because the jewelry purchases were getting out of control. I'm a Native American jewelry freak and I've bought several pieces on ebay. Before that it was glasses. I was looking for some cateye glasses to have made into sunglasses and then I noticed old drinking glasses from the 40s-60s. So now i have about 20 different sets in my house and garage. I like to think of it as an investment.

I use it from time to time. Usually for instuments for my kids. I am bidding on a great vintage JF tank top. I hope I get it but I do have my price when I was not there but the art work is great and its never been worn LOL

Ok, here's a new shoe that I am trying out: Spira walking shoes. Spira uses
"WaveSpring™ technology in both the heel and forefoot for incomparable cushioning and energy return for the neutral runner who wants to reduce impact stress. The deflection nature of the WaveSpring™ maintains "like new" performance throughout the life of the shoe, while reducing impact shock resulting in less stress and fatigue. The high abrasion carbon rubber outsole and single density midsole flex plate, combined with the EVA cushion pads on the forefoot exterior and the anatomical Wave Spring™ design, work together to provide increased flexibility and cushioning. The breathable upper materials and the forefoot "flex fingers" over the metatarsals provide exceptional fit and comfort."

Reviews at Zappos were excellent, especially among orthodic wearers and those with other foot/leg problems. The main advantages are the lifetime springs. Traditional shoes use padding to create support & cushion, which wear out over time. I have noticed that with all the New Balance I have had.

Guilty also; it's really the only way to bid to make sure you not only get the item (because let's be real - the hunt and "kill" are at least half the excitement of eBay), but at a somewhat reasonable price.

What I don't get are the bidders who start a war with 5-6 days left on the auction . . . that just seems crazy to me!

It helps me to enter my top price at the very begining, and allows me to ignore it until auction ends. Too easy to get excited (foolish) and bid past my "good deal" level.

Well, my philosophy is that I watch it and check on it regularly, but don't bid until just a few minutes before the auction ends. I don't use a sniper program, as I figure if I don't remember (or am away) when the auction ends that karma didn't intend for me to have that item.

I've only gone over my max price a couple of times ('cause I just get a bit competitive sometimes) - generally I'll walk away also, as too, I'm not a big gambler . . . must be the Scots in me also (I don't dink scotch)!! :D

i'm a karma shopper too. sometimes i won't even bid on something that others have bid on, because i don't want to run the price up on them, and they probably want it more than me.
never get on ebay under the influence. you can make stupid choices and mistakes, like missing fine print. and you can over bid in a frenzy. you can buy ugly things.

I used to go to live auctions alot-every weekend back in the 70s when i lived in the ozarks. You get a card with your number on it and you flash that or your hand or finger to make your bid. Talk about getting carried away! Easy to do when you're looking at the item and the peeps you're bidding against.

Very cute, ZKitten. Airwalks have that same tie-dye color combination. The only thing I don't like about them is that they don't have the heel strap so I couldn't wear them dancin'. Gotta dance.

Thanks!! :D

I think it will be fine, as I never really use the strap on the Crocs anyway and haven't found it to inhibit my danceitude thusfar . . . but then I also often take off the clogs and just dance barefoot in the grass . . .

It hurt when I took my shoes off so now I have my sneakers on with the other ones. No pain again...the doc said I should wear shoes around the clock except when I'm sleeping so my foot can heal. Here's hopin'!

I did that, lis, and just now realized it. I had to step in shoes with a heel in the am to prevent pain and wore some kind of shoes til bed because it didn't hurt. Yep, that helps the healing process. Feels better, too, eh? Did you get some that will work in fest sandals?

no but the sandals I bought have good arch support...I have some for sneakers and some for dressier flats like I wore for Mardi Gras.

I did ask Ib if she can attach a little platform for me on the back of her scooter and then someone suggested a side-car maybe ;)

The article addresses that. She had a child and there were no changes post-partum. No mammary tissue or glands involved. My question, "was there increased sensitivity?" I have to assume not since it not symptomatic. If it didn't hurt, why remove it? Guess she just got tired of it.

No, didn't find it, it was stolen.. ..right out of my studio....I cancelled all of my cards, filed a police report, placed an alert on my credit report, and got a new license. I'm still freaked about the shows, and this episode didn't help...if I was a drinking man, I'd be way sloshed.. I've got to keep my sense of humor, if I lose that, I'm in VERY bad shape! Here's a link to a company that makes some pretty cool stuff. They make footwear, inserts for shoes, lumbar support items, a travel pillow and lots of other stuff. I became acquainted with this company when I purchased a saddle pad for equine use. The horses love it!

I haven't tried their other products, but I'm going to order a pair of their flipflops.

The material they use is from recycled material, and is antibacterial, antifungal and odor resistant.

Gotta keep your feets happy!

I'm doing fair with all this... I just have to remember that I can't do it like I want to do it, that's all, and that's tough... and trying to find shoes is a whole 'nutter problem! LOL With the wrap on my foot/ankle it's a little difficult to try on shoes that are enclosed in the back, but I'm allowed to wear regular shoes for a few hours a day at home, to start getting back to the norm. I'm sitting here with my Nothinz on my tooties and they feel good, just don't think they'd support me for those long Fest days.

BTW, I met a Cherokee medicine man the other day, at the Health food store, who told me to rub my feet at night with castor oil at night and wear an old pair of cotton socks over it, to bed. I've been doing that and sure 'nuff, it's helping with the swelling! Google Castor Oil and the results are surprising.

Thanks for asking, sweetie.... have we heard how Neen's doing with the shoulder thing? I was looking and hadn't seen any posts... wondered if I might have missed 'em.

Haven't tried them, but they look cute. I have worn regular Crocs to fest and I love them. I also got some Croc r**nboots this year because they are so light to pack.

Big, big fan of the Chacos. And I'd get the durable sandal with the toe loop. If not accustomed to a toe loop, it takes a while to get used to, but afterwards they are very comfortable & the stability in water or, say... Fairgrounds mud is worth it. That & they are a pretty socially-conscious company and also will retread them for you for a nominal fee, or if you donate your used (clean!) ones they will give you 20% off a new pair and donate the old ones to charity.

Although the straps do leave funny tan lines on your feet post-Jazz Fest / Summer...

Those are the shoes I bought for last year's fest and my feet were screaming in confusion- The arches, the toe loop etc....stepped on the toe loop instead of looping it and it helped but my feet couldn't adjust. I got the Keen's this year and they seemed to be better...the Chaco flip flops I bought are awesome though..weird.

Yes. It was the one about the study of 100 people with PF, yes?Yep, and the stretch is simply to rest the bad foot on the opposite knee and grip the toes and pull them back towards the shin 10 times for a count of 10 at least 3 times a dyay, including before taking the first step in the morning and before standing after a prolonged period of sitting.

I've worn Birkenstocks, Chacos, Crocs and Keens at Jazzfest . . . and of them all, the Crocs are BY FAR the most comfortable!!! However, I don't have any foot issues as severe as Plantar Fascitis.

This year, I'll be bringing Crocs Beach/Cayman models (I have a few in different colors) and Keen Newports to wear to the fairgrounds - as well as several other pairs of shoes, including the Birks, for other events in NOLA during Fest - being the Shoe Ho that I am!!! :o

All this talk about cute/the right shoes got me out shoping last nigth. I won't go into details of the 3' Michael Kors Horache's...cause they won't see JF, if even the cobblestone streets on NO...BUT .....I since I couldn't find the Chaco's y'all were talking about and did run into some really comfortable Reef flip-flops with a nice arch, I bought them.

BUT I couldn't get over two other pairs of Reef that I DIDN'T buy. Get this - each of them actually came with their own mini-funnel to fill the in-sole FLASK! LOL. I couldn't believe it. They were pretty cool, but the ones I bought were a little more comfortable. Then there was the other pair that not only had the in-sole flask....but also a bottle opener in the sole.

Being one who HATES it when even the littlest of pebbles sticks in the sole of my shoe or boot I decided that no matter how indented into the sole the bottle opener was that it would ulimately drive me NUTS and I shouldn't buy them - despite the fact that it's a pretty cool idea - especially the hidden flask. But I"m also not really into "sneaking" stuff in....I'm too old for that.

Cute idea though.

Just to follow up here, I hate my new Keen Napali sandals.

Wore 'em all day Friday and Saturday walking around FQF, and by mid-afternoon, the soles of my feet really hurt. I'd walked 5 miles and it felt like I'd walked 30.

They look good, and are fine for walking the dog or going to the grocery, but at least for my feet, clearly they are not the right sandal for days with lots of walking/standing/dancing.

My old sandals are Rockports. Several years of Fests in them, now the soles are wearing down and the velcro is only semi-sticky. I'm off to the mall today to look for a replacement pair.

I am still amazed at how long this thread has become! Hilarious! And also points out just how important happy feet are to Fest enjoyment. This year, I am more challenged by a wonky painful knee than feet. Got orthotics in an attempt to preserve the knee by correcting pronation.

The happy side effect is that I had to buy all new shoes -- the downside is they ain't too pretty! Did find some sandals that will accommodate an orthotic, but they aren't really fairground material. So picked up some Chacos (not the flip flops) as the footbed mimics an orthotic rather well.

I'll be the one doing the wheelchair dancing if things don't work out with the knee. May even check out a Jenn scooter....

Looking forward to seeing everyone's new shooooooooze! Just FIVE sleeps now...

This thread continues to inform. So cool! Happy feet are truly the foundation of a good festexperience. Since Swag started the updates, here's mine.

Been wearing my new and old sandals the last few days to check for comfort and break them in. Here's my report:

The Keen Venice sandals I bought last year still are very comfortable & supportive, but like last year due to a bad ankle they make my foot swell from the strap around the ankle. Can't wear em longer than a couple hours. Even tried stretching with large objects. Damn, no go for me. probly good for others tho. Anyone need a size 10?

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u52/glinda411/keengreen.jpg
Then there are last year's favs, Born sandals, I bought a replacement pair cuz they were so perfect for me. Best arch support ever. Still good, hurray!

I bought the Newports (CORRECTION>>>no I didn't... I bought the Venice H2!) in a 10, in red, I'm hoping they are comfortable... if you need to get rid of 'em I'd be more than willing to take 'em off your hands!
I just decided to STOP taking the celebrex that the foot surgeon put me on...seems that just may be what has been causing so much of my swelling. It is one of the side effects and they tell you to stop taking it if your legs, hands and feet swell... and mine sure have.

While reading the TP on line, Calif. Drawstrings on Royal Street is advertising that they have New Orleans Saints Crocs at $34.99. They are black crocs with the gold backstrap with the Fleu De Lis & Saints logo. Gonna check them out when I hit town Thursday.
Ooooh, I'll have to check dose out too, when I get into NOLA day after tomorrow!!!

As for Keen's - I been wearing my Newports and Taos models this past week and they're SO comfy, it's not even funny!!! I loves them . . . but getting the right fit (as they tend to run small) is a big deal regarding one's satisfaction with them.

Life is too short for uncomfortable foots!! :D

I'm off to shop for some Keens this week. I have a pair of Airwalks that LOOK like some of the Keen models (they have the rubber toe and heel cup thing) and when I insert my Birkenstock insoles, they seem to do the trick.

As I've said before, I think the real enemy of the feet (and the biggest catalyst for developing plantar fasciitis) is any shoe that allows the heel to slip from side to side. I tried Crocs once and they scared the hell out of me for that reason - they felt great under my feet, but I could just see all those ligaments stretching and tearing as they moved side to side along that soft spongy sole of theirs.

Dance safely, y'all!

Good luck with your shoes, everyone!
I bought a pair of the keens, too. Me no like. They felt fine at the store, but when I wore them for a little while, I knew they were wrong for me. I have high arches, but I don't know if that's part of the problem or not.

They are so cute, though. But I gave them to my daughter and she loves them, so happy ending!:)

Me, too, poker! I found the most outrageous cloche that reminds me of her at a vintage clothing store. It is green & gold, made with ribbons, by Christian Dior. I want to wear it at the Fairgrounds, but I'm afraid it will get ruined.

Okay, everybody, let's have a debriefing about what shoes worked and what shoes didn't work for festing -- daytime and nighttime. My purple mesh sneakers were surprisingly good, particularly because they were cooler (e.g., less hot) than my various leather sneakers, and I wore them considerably more than planned. Of course, it didn't hurt that I had at least two purple fest outfits with me, but I wore them with other colors too.

My footwear lesson learned concerns my Teva Sandels. Being from the frozen yankee-land, I hadn't had a chance to wear them since last summer. They worked great until I started getting blisters. Bandaids helped, but I ended up switching to sneaks.

Next year, I'll make sure that I wear them some to break in my feet ahead of time, even if I have to wear them in the snow. (Nah, not in the snow.)

I wore my Reeboks a lot and they did well. My Crocs also worked well for the fairground, especially on the r##ny day.

For the evenings, I wore an old pair of cute little leather sneaker things I bought cheap -- and they were very comfortable.

I took other sandals, but rarely wore them -- only for dining out, etc.

Paul Sanchez was wearing his Saints crocs during his LMF set :)

I hadn't worn my chacos flip flops before the first time I wore them at fest and I did get a blister inside my toe that hurt until it heeled up, then they were very comfy.

I ended up wearing my sketchers that I got for Mardi Gras quite a bit as they were broken in, but they did get a little sweaty and smelly by the end.

Probably spent less than 2 hours this trip in high heels (drat!), of course I also rarely showered or put on make up, there just didn't seem to be time!

My feet had a very happy fest. All the sandals pictured a few posts above worked out great. The Keen Venice and both Borns for festing, the Keen huaraches for hanging out/evenings. So those Keen Venice worked out just fine afterall, even in the r**n. They stayed on my feet, and weren't slippery at all. Sorry, mamaroux, I'm keeping em!

I think it also helped that I switched 'em around, didn't wear the same pair every day. No blisters. And now I am set for my summer footwear. Happy feet, happy feet.

Wore my new balance every day at fest and around the quarter, with the inserts Bonnie recommended. Wore my Naot sandals with the inch heel at night. My feet did fine but were, and still are, really worn to a frazzle. Sore and tired from all that walking, standing and dancing! My massage therapist had to spend a lot of time on my feet wednesday after fest. They were screaming at her.

Oh honey, I'm glad they worked! LOL I wore my keens only one day. The heel strap just bothered the site of the incision to much. I wore my Nothinz several times, and when I took off the Keens, I put them on. Otherwise I wore my Easy Spirit mule/clog type walking shoes, they have removable inner soles, so I put my orthodics under them, and the heel lift for the bad foot. They worked out pretty good. I've actually been sort of living in them because the scar is really tender... tender enough that the doc shot some cortizone in there on Monday to try to break up the scar tissue that seems to be forming and driving me nuts. Those keens of yours were really cute, so I'm glad you're going to get some use out of them...

of course, if you change your mind, you know where to find me! LOL ;)

The Teva mush were fanastic as well as the leather Chaco flip flops.....those were the only 2 pairs where my feet hurt bad but wasn't ready to have a meltdown about the pain. Having said that,I did NOT baby my feet, was at fest or out all day during the day and then 10 out of 12 nights we strolled in between 4 and 5 a.m. I don't think any shoes would have worked.

Having said that the Keens almost killed me....way too flat and orthotics slip out the back...those were bad bad bad......hot tub foot therapy and pain pills several times a day to get through :(

I failed miserably in the shoe department... ackshally the whole standing up department was almost beyond me! Tried my shoes out beforehand, but alas I ended up with the mother of all blisters (bigger than a frisbee)... Still, there were only 500 or so posts advising of appropriate footwear so it's not like I had fair warning. Jeeeesh!

Woa, mamaroux, hope your foot heals up. That scar tissue build up can be deadly. I have a real talent for amassing large quantities of it, it can really get in the way of mobility. Keep massaging it - Vitamin E oil is good...

Never thought to actually wear them to walk in; might have to try it.

*Each and every time I shower someplace other than home in my bare feet, or even walk on a bathroom floor barefoot, no matter how fancy the place or clean it appears, I wind up with athlete's foot between my toes at home a few days later. Hence, slippers on at all times in the room, Okabashi's in the shower. TMI?:o

Sorry to hear about ya'll's foot pain! GET WELL SOON! I'm still shocked that I didn't have any problems with the Crocs. They just didn't seem like they were gonna cut it for my foot issues but they are very light so it felt like I hardly had anything on my foot! Extremely happy with them now! I brought my Chaccos too but those were just too heavy to be walkin' in ALL day. I usually reserve those for sittin' in a canoe sippin' beers while lazily paddlin' down river:D

Well, I almost had a very unhappy foot story for this year's Fest - as my first night there was the Big Easy awards and I was helping my NOLA friend/hostess Gloria (who is the executive producer of the awards) seat attendees . . . looking totally cute in some slammin' high heel evening wedges by Aerosoles (comfy, right? - NOT!!) that gave me SUCH terrible blisters on the sides of my pinky toe and on the balls of both feet, that I was afraid of how my feet would be for the upcoming first Fest weekend!!

Luckily, my trusty Crocs really came through like champs and were totally comfy - even during the second Friday deluge at Ms. Lena's flooding! Also, my Keens did great and I bought some gorgeous Those Shoes from That Guy right near Rosy's booth (that are SO incredibly comfortable), I also had some Okabashi flip-flops that I had bought just before Jazzfest - they did okay, but not as comfy as the Crocs/Keens combos.

my feet sucked so bad at Crawfish Fest...I really don't know what to do anymore. Sitting would likely be a good place to start....do you think it's my feet or because I never sit? It's not just the PF, they are just sore all over no matter what shoes I wear....

Last night I saw someone wearing a really nice and supportive looking sandal. The brand name was Theresia M; she thinks they might be German. They're also $100+, but they're the style I've been searching high and low for (a wide band with velcro across the top of the foot, with an adjustable ankle strap).

You can have surgery for the PF. You can also wear New Balance shoes every day until they are healed. I guess you are still doing the exercises and taking an anti inflammatory? That's all I know. It's not cute but it works. Sorry, hunni.

My guess it's being on your feet so much.

When I started working at the store and walking 6-8 hours at a time, I had to get shoes with LOTS of cushion and bounce in the soles. Keds, flip-flops, leather bottom sandals just wouldn't cut it... I'd be hobbling by the end of the day.

If I were you, the FIRST thing I'd try is NOT GOING BAREFOOT. :D
