Man, I had forgotten just how good this band was back in the day. (I still think they're great. their set at last year's IAC was one of my real "musical orgasms" of last year's fest.) When you think that this was happening 30-35 years ago, you just have to shake your head.

I miss you, Lowell. Damn.

I am a D.C native and that early to mid-70's period was a golden age for Washington, musically speaking.Lowell and the band had adopted D.C. as their surrogate home since the "left coast" just never seemed to embrace them, and emmylou, link wray, roy buchanan, danny gatton, seldom scene, country gentlemen and as they say, "i don't know who I'm leaving out" were playing every night.Unfortunately gasoline had rocketed up to $.75 a gallon from $.25 so it cost a bit more to drive about, but all in all life was good.
Lowell's passing was a huge downer, but by that time his bad habits had changed him some as is so often the case.
You seem to have a knack for discovering and unlodging musical artifacts...here is an item worth searching for.It has vexed me since 1979.Shortly after Lowell's death there was a memoriam/tribute show at a small club in D.C..No live bands but they played an entire Little Feat concert on video screens set up around the club.I could not begin to remember the details of the filming (place, date, ect.)but unless it has been lost to history somehow, there exists somewhere a top quality film of a complete Feat concert. The Feat fans while possibly small in number, are a passionate group and I for one, would stand in line to buy that show on a DVD or even just show up somewhere to see it yet again. The little snippets that you have uncovered just remind me of how good that they were.
Thanks for the heads-up.

Hey Now Ohio! I don't think that is what I saw in that club but it is certainly a possibility. When you receive it give us a review. I am interested but the reviews are mixed. I most likely will get it anyway, as woody allen says "what the heart wants the heart wants" or something like that.

Yes Ohio it was good but you know how the memories fade.Nothing beats the exact moment that it is happening. That is just one of the reasons that we live music junkies spend so much time-money-energy searching out that eternal buzz. Just another addiction!!!
In the "for what it is worth" column I also had the unique pleasure of being one of the 17,000 (16,999 screaming girls and me) attendees of the Beatles very first live american concert at the old Uline Arena in D.C. in Feburary 1964.Now that was surreal!!!

Yeah, Feat has (and always will have) a HUGE place in my heart.

The very first album I ever bought was "Feats Don't Fail Me Now", and I bought it along with a few other records - something like Foghat, Supertramp, etc. I really didn't like it at all when I first heard it, but something just kept bringing me back. The more I listened, the more I loved it and the other records just fell by the wayside. It was then that I realized that their music is like fine cuisine; just a taste of ginger or cayenne in there to keep you coming back, you know?

A few years later, my favourite album became "Waiting for Columbus", and one of the biggest thrills of my life was working on that tour and seeing them night after night. I was so "in awe" of everything, I was pretty much useless as a production manager when the show was on. I even had an amazing "Waiting for Columbus satin tour jacket with my name on the front: Burgundy jacket, green and gold piping and Chinese-style letters down the sleeves (just like the art on the album) and the Neon Park album cover completely embroidered on the back. Around 7 years later, the thing was stolen from a coat check in Victoria, BC and I haven't stopped mourning it since - it was beautiful. :>(

The vip show at IAC last fest was maybe the best modern era LF show I've seen, and there's been many. Set the tone for the night, imo.

This is a fun listen, not mind-blowing on any level but very intimate and they sound like are enjoying themselves.

Well, one good thing leads to another! As I'm watching old Feat vids on Youtube, I decided to search for some Rory Gallagher. OHMIGOD.

The Rory Gallagher footage smokes! Sure wish I could have seen him.

My second biggest mistake in 26 years of JF is missing Little Feat play at the Fair Grounds in the early 90s. (1990/1991 ?) It was one of those "weather" days, wet and cold. The only music was in the tents and the Jazz tent was packed. My Krewe wanted to leave so with the main stages shut down we left early. Little Feat ended up playing later.

I remember catching Little Feat at Tower Records with Sonny Landreth sitting in with them. (199?) I don't think LF played the Fair Grounds that year but were booked at the House of Blues for two shows.

AH-H-H McGregor....WHFS...99.1 the sweet sounds of the 70's in D.C. Jake Einsteins present to Washington. Used to be every city had a station like that, then just the college towns and some of the hipper cities. Now it seems like you can count on your fingers the number of "freeform" stations on the air.Certainly D.C. no longer has one. I have subscriptions to both Sirius and XM and they help some. I think Sirius is much superior at almost every music form, but XM is trying to improve perhaps, but neither is even remotely like the haydays of alternative/freeform radio. IMO

A couple of years ago, a Threadhead gave me a nice pro shot LF dvd of that set! Those were the Craig Fuller years (Pure Prairie League). I think they produced the best new post-Lowell LF tunes.

ahhhh... Feat! I re-immersed myself a few years ago after the Deepest End show came out & I rediscovered "On Your Way Down" when Warren had Sonny join the superstar doin's.

btw, I'd love to see a reel tape that just had the Rockpalast intro's - they're hilarious! European TV really covered a void in music filming, and I'm so glad it's available on tape/DVD. Between the BBC, German TV, and the Spanish tv taping of flamenco heroes, it's been a bounty of riches when you're getting back to the roots. Hope you put a few duckets away for your habit, tho' $$ ;)

Lowell George definitely had more soul than he could control and their funky funky funky sound, the interplay of the musicians, and use of the different percussion instruments was truly thrilling. Some of the current rock'n'roll groups could learn a lot from them, not to mention Lowell and Fred's great lyrics. I was really looking forward to hearing them at Jazzfest last year or the year before (or whenever it was that they last played at the Fest), but when I stopped by the stage they were so incredibly ear-splittingly loud, it was painful -- just a screaming loud wall of guitar sound ... maybe at their age, the musicians were all going deaf and couldn't hear themselves or they just think that's the only way to appeal to the current music-going public.

one of my favorite radiator's shows ever was SNAFU at jazz fest two years ago when paul barrere sat in for the entire show. you should have seen the perma grin look on dave malone's face as the rad's entwined many little feat classics into their set list, with paul joining in and jamming with them throughout the show!

I'm going to see them at the Keswick in PA the night before the NYC shows. :) Somehow, the ticket gods smiled on me when I ordered, and I scored a seat in the pit.
