The mayor would be on the bottom of my list for who to honor. Unbelievable.
Good thing everyone in the city government is on the same page....WTF?
Only in New Orleans or the twilight zone could something like this take place.

The only good thing about this whole debacle is that a bunch of the people listed on the invitation, from Clarkson to Galatoire's, seem to be backing off from even being associated with it. Clarkson flat-out said she doesn't think Nagin deserves any honor for his response.
Maybe it's just a back door route for Ray Ray to get the anniversary party he wanted last year. It will be interesting to see if their timing of it backfires, too.

WTF indeed.
I did finish reading, and it led me down a contorted string of blogs, etc.
My favorite take away, the one thing that's allowed me to laugh instead of crying about all this....
"How long can the Excellence in Recovery Host Committee hold a bong hit before laughing hysterically?"
I mean, REALLY?!?
Don't even get me started about Dr. Blakely being omitted, etc. etc. etc. ad naseum... Oh my gosh. Now I think I am crying...

Someone much wiser than I once said something about politics making strange bedfellows. This looks like career planning on the part of Da Mayor for his future or to create spin against a possible recall if he winds up being hands on involved in the NOAH scandal. If only his brain were as big as his balls. Apologies to the scarecrow.

This is amatuer play. One election in Chicago Mayor Daley was getting heat from the much needed Latino community in Chicago so he was promptly awarded as man of the year by a preeminent Hispanic organization.

I am astounded at the complete and utter crapulence the govt will resort to anymore. Shaking my head in amazement.

When I first read this this AM, I thought someone from the Onion or the New Orleans Levee had hijacked the press room. Unfortunately not. Sad indeed.

Can't pin this one on the government! Remember Nagin was a private sector darling when he first arrived! Maybe Mayor Hyatt will have the good sense to make sure it's NOT on his schedule, but I doubt it.

I just hope that they aren't planning on exploiting any true victim by having them recount their recovery story for a roomfull of back-slapping syncophants - that would be truly reprehensible.
The eating of stuffed pork chops by Paul K and listening to the fine musical stylings of Irvin? Well, rest assured the mayor will be enjoying all of this on behalf of the good citizens of New Orleans... ouch!

Hmmmm, I guess they all cashed their checks?!?!?!
There always seems to be a Nagin Love-Fest going on but I have yet to meet anyone who likes him. Guess I'm hanging out with the poor crowd.
We have an incredibly crooked City Gov't here so nothing surprises me anymore.

Actually, they do plan to have survivors there. If I remember correctly, they have 4 lined up to attend this clusterfuck.
You can see the front of the invitation at http://toulousestreet.files.wordpress.com/2008/08/cray-2.jpg and the back at http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_u3G-tyG0CVc/SKSePL9MJ9I/AAAAAAAAAKg/fNLP1dLPGcA/s1600-h/nagin.jpg
Notice who gets first billing, in larger type, on the invite.

I'm hoping it's actually covert operation to unseat Nagin and put Honore in charge... a bloodless coup.

FYI, Irvin is on the city payroll as "cultural ambassador". He actually travels with a bodyguard paid by our tax dollars. I am sure that al-queada has targeted him for political reasons.;)
