hey guys, been a while. reason...been really busy here in north west alabama.
we (my fiancée and i) bought a house last year and that's kept me busy doing things around the house.
also been on the water a lot since it got warm outside. (canoe and kayak)
i hope you guys have been doing ok. i hope you had a great jazz fest. i did!
i was there both weekends and had a blast!!!

i woke up this morning thinking about new orleans. thinking about how i need to get back to nola asap.
was thinking about the congo square festival and wondering if they would do it this year. i checked online but didn't see anything about this year.
i called the jazz fest office and they told me it was on and it would be october 4th and 5th.
i'm not going to be able to make it this year. my daughter is getting married on the 4th. if it wasn't for that, i would definitely go.

i will be coming to voodoo fest and bringing the little lady with me. hope to see some of you guys there.
it's going to be a good one.

Updated info:

The second annual Congo Square Rhythms Festival will take place October 4 and 5 on the banks of Bayou St. John (at the intersection of Orleans Avenue), the same site as the annual Super Sunday Mardi Gras Indian celebration. (The festival had been scheduled to take place in Armstrong Park but had to relocate due to the ongoing construction and electrical work there.) Headline performers include: Cupid, Kermit Ruffins, Donald Harrison, Jr., and Big Sam’s Funky Nation, plus African dance, Mardi Gras Indians and local hip-hop and R&B artists such as Dizzy, Fifth Ward Weebie, Miss Tee, Tondrae and Elysian Fieldz.

In addition to great music, the festival will include extensive offerings of regional food, arts and crafts.

The Congo Square Rhythms Festival will also feature activities and amusements for children as well as a Heritage Plaza, where local traditional artisans will demonstrate their crafts.

The Congo Square Rhythms Festival also includes a Health Pavilion, where numerous local health care providers and public health organizations will provide information and free screenings. This effort is supported by the United States Department of Health and Human Services, the African American Healthy Marriage Initiative, the City of New Orleans Department of Health and the Louisiana Campaign for Tobacco-Free Living.

I'm still trying to decide. I know i'll be there the second weekend in november. Now i'm thinking about coming the first weekend in november too instead of congo rhythms. Halloween on Frenchmen and Saturday at Tips for Galactic with Shamarr and Corey Henry!
