Never have, but thinking this could be the year. Line up looks great, like Jazzfest with an edge, and in a nicer area. I always thought R.E.M. would be unreal at Fest, so VooDoo may have to Doo.
Who is in for Voodoo?
When do the Cubes come out??
How much are single day tickets???
Should I get a three day pass ( I like the bonus of going in and out "leave it alone Muff " ;) ????
I'm in fo sho! Walking distance for me and Gumbo too. :)

Blue and Linz will be right there with ya...think Juls is heading to this as well.
Now how the heck will we get the jello there?

That won't be a problem, baby. If we can manage jello in the heat of Satchmo, Florida in October will be a snap!

Big Blue Marble is a good local rock band with a pop feel. Their music is fun, not too serious but their sound has gotten more complex.
The Vettes are a very young local rock band (I think from Metairie) and they recently put out an EP disc. High energy and having fun, they are just beginning to figure their own sound out. If you want something serious or sophisticated, the Vettes are not it.
The Gutter Twins are also local and I have had their newest disc since the spring but I have not listened to it yet.
Joss Stone is worth checking out, even if for a couple of songs, just to witness the incredible soul sound that comes out of her tiny, white body. She is a commandment breaker.
Aside from the headliners, the national acts that I am considering are:
Ghostland Observatory
Lupe Fiasco
Panic at the Disco
Dashboard Confessional
Erykah Badu
Thievery Corporation
Death Cab For Cutie
Corona

I definitely don't love it anything like Fest but I love the weather that time of year and I love that it marks the midpoint of the Festal Calendar!

Tulane University uptown used to have temporary housing available for people - you should call their housing office. AND, if they don't offer anything on the uptown campus, they do have off campus listings - so something may work out. There is also Loyola University - next to Tulane, and check out the local churches in the area. Regardless of your religious persuasion (or lack of - it all good ) - many of the local churches have phenomenal social networks and might be a fantastic resource for you to find temporary housing.
Of course, the Gambit is the thing to consult for activities in addition to a whole host of other things. If you want to start checkin' that out you can online at http://www.bestofneworleans.com
Also check out the community board at http://www.wwoz.org for all sorts of great community events.
Best wishes to ya !

More the other way around, to me. He is into Rage Against The Machine and Metallica, which I can live without. I played some Zep for him a while back but he just made faces and plugged in his iPod! The little window is 14. I don't think he knows much about NIN. The set they played at the post-K voodoo on the fly was one of the best hard rock shows I have ever seen. He was up north the year after the storm so he was not with me. I have taken him to see the Meters twice and he does listen to them now and then but he got an electric guitar and right now he wants to be Tom Morello.
Good to see you posting. I have been wondering how you fared with the storm. I'll send you me cell # so we can meet up. Beers are on me.

booooooooooo.
man, it's so funny, i've had the worst luck trying to catch him every time i've been to new orleans. which i realize seems impossible given the fact that he plays at least three nights a week. i just always end up somewhere else and really wanted to make it a point to see him this time since i'm heading to town alone with the freedom to make my own itinerary without the influence of others. oh well. guess i'll just have to go back in the spring.
in any case, thanks so much for looking into it.

I like Voodoo cause it marks the mid-point of the Festal year. And our big sister just told me that she's flying in for a long weekend so we'll have help w/ my mom and I'll be able to play way better. Yay!

How varied are your music tastes? Voodoo has a little bit of most every kind and a generous amount of N.O. music. Give me some preferences and I'll try to help.

Here is a couple of suggestions on time/location.

or
Saturday: soundboard for Paul Sanchez 1:00-2:00

We caught her last night opening for the Black Keys at HOB and enjoyed her band better. She is quite reminiscent of Lucinda Williams in her singing and her song structure. If you are at Voodoo early enough to catch her set you won't be disappointed.
Innertube, I am working on posting something for you about acts to check out, but I've been busy checking them out!! Seems like you're on top of things pretty well. Sorry to see the comment about Jessica's CD, we picked one up last night. I'll try to get some thoughts together before the weekend is over.

Thanks for the info, I will have to check her out Sat. That is the best time during the day, no crowds and easy to move around.

sorry if this was addressed earlier in the thread. but will there be any off-campus meet-ups for those who might be in town voodoo weekend but aren't attending the festival? hypothetically speaking, of course.

How can I contact you? I will be hanging by myself when the little window is not at the fest and some of it when he is as he lives at the PS3 trailer unless there is someone he really wants to see.

We are taking a semi-leisurely drive down on Wednesday with the intent of arriving in town early Thursday. I think I saw that the Rads are playing in Lafayette Square on Thursday. Looks like a great kick off to Voodoo weekend. ALF... First beer on me.

Window, email me at wildflower underscore traveler a t yah.. Dot com
send me your number
then I can email my phone number. I am up to anything and everything.
since Ive acclimated to late night mode I so many times want to head into
town to catch some tunes but many on the TH forum have forewarned against it. If one was to get the itch at 9/10p to catch tunes, or any time, I'd be there.
Thanks window!
