I was supposed to see Alejandro Escovedo today at Summerstage in Central Park as part of a Mexican music day. Just checked the Summerstage web site and it says "Alejandro Escovedo will not be performing today due to serious illness".
Anybody know anything?

hi, Scoop,
No, I hadn't heard this news. The last I'd heard about him was this: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=93370102
Did you get to see him last month at the Highline? I hope he is okay.

No I've never seen him solo, saw Rank & File a bunch back in the day. Knew he was sick earlier but had recovered. Hope he is okay as well.

Let me state as forcefully as possible that I certainly have been dinking enough beer. And will do so again today (still going to see the show)

Yes, I hope so, too, Scoop. Could be a family member, of course.
The Nuns, Rank & File, True Believers ... so many great bands.
P.S. - tangie, you knucklehead :p :D ;) Alejandro is a U.S. citizen! And I seriously doubt he'd schedule a vacation at this time. Of course, I'm not getting into Scoop's beer habits. :)

So...did you dink too much to go to Vibes on Sunday? We were staggering around looking for you! Sam Bush was amazing....I think I fell over my own flip-flop! Not a rare thing at all.....

Does this mean you are considering running for an elected office?:)
I saw him about a month ago and he kicked ass. I hope he hasn't had a relapse of the hep.

Alejandro Escovedo is at home resting, after his physician suggested the cancellation of several dates, including an August 7th appearance on the David Letterman show. The Austin American-Statesman reports that Escovedo was hospitalized due to extreme fatigue July 25 and, on the advice of doctors, sent back to Wimberley to rest. Escovedo was diagnosed with Hepatitis C in 1997. A release from Escovedo's management issued after the first round of cancellations said, "Due to symptoms from acute exhaustion, and per the suggestion of his doctors, Alejandro Escovedo will need to postpone his scheduled performances for this *Escovedo is expected to*return to the stage Aug. 28 to play a show for the Austin Child Guidance Center at Antone's.

TY, Fred. Hope A.E. takes it easy for a while. I also read the press release about John Dee Graham's car crash. Whew! I'm glad it wasn't more serious!

Scoop, looks like he's back on top of the game. From A.E.'s web site:
Alejandro Escovedo to play Harley-Davidson’s 105th Anniversary Celebration
New York, NY - August 11, 2008
Alejandro Escovedo has been confirmed to perform at Harley-Davidson’s 105th Anniversary Celebration in Milwaukee on August 30th at the Roadhouse at the Lakefront stage on the same bill with Bruce Springsteen. This will be the second time Escovedo has shared a stage with Springsteen; the first was in April of this year when they teamed up on Escovedo’s single “Always a Friend”. This show will mark Escovedo’s return to touring after canceling a handful of dates due to exhaustion and fatigue.
If you haven't heard his new release "REAL ANIMAL" yet, I highly recommend picking up a copy. There is also a limited pressing LP with 2 tracks that are not on the CD. It's some bona fide rock and roll.
Dave Marsh calls it the record of the year.
Scoop, you work at a record store and probably know this already, right? :)
A.E. will be playing at Austin City Limits and will also be doing a series of shows in Tejas around that time.

Re: Alejandro Escovedo's new album 'Real Animal'
Subject: I blew out my car speakers listening to it... :o
Seriously, I couldn't help myself. Not every cut is a winner, but many are so outrageously good, that I couldn't help but CRANK IT UP!
Ahem.
Perfect summer time listening. Also note that Chuck Prophet co-wrote the tunes on this fine release. If Chuck is unknown to you, I highly recommend you check him out as well...

Glad he's back. Knew he had a new record but hadn't picked it up. Once a month we get to pick some promos and lo and behold I found one. Gonna listen to it this weekend along with about 20 selections.

let me know.

So far, so good!
I'm blowing off the Cub game to see him. Maybe I'm not as diseased as my friend Tom says I am about baseball! Maybe it's music!

I used to go to this punk club in SF called the On Broadway. Upstairs from the infamous Mabuhay Gardens, it was where Dirksen /Miller moved their shows when the Mab could no longer hold the burgeoning crowds. Rank and File the very first cowpunk band ever played there and we all loved it. "Coyote why did you leave me so far from home?" I haven't seen AE since that night but I wish him the best.
