Maria Muldaur Managment Agreement and Campaign Song
Years of friendship and two prior record label relationships dating from the early 1990s is the background for the formalizing of an ongoing working relationship between legendary singer Maria Muldaur and manager Mindy Giles.
Giles was Marketing Director at New Orleans’ Black Top Records when Muldaur’s highly-lauded Louisiana Love Call (1992) and Meet Me At Midnite (1994) were top sellers at the label. Giles produced Muldaur’s Classic Live! released in 2003 on Dig Music.
“Mindy Giles has been a trusted and supportive career coach to me for years and through many projects, and I see this new partnership as a natural evolution of our creative relationship,” says Muldaur. “I am confident that with Mindy on our team the YES, WE CAN! release will be a huge success!”
“She’s the #1 Soul sister for me - a true American voice saying just the right words for this time,” Giles says. “I look forward to a multigenerational audience really supporting this powerful heartfelt effort - both on radio and in live performance.”
Yes We Can! is Muldaur’s brand new release (July 22, 2008) on Telarc International. It’s first week of release it charted # 4 most added at Triple A Radio.
Muldaur will embark on her Yes We Can! Tour beginning on the eve of the Democratic Convention August 22 with a concert performance at the landmark Crest Theatre in Sacramento, California.
Special guests Tracy Nelson, Holly Near, Linda Tillery, Annie Sampson, and Keta Bill will back Maria and her band, the Free Radicals, performing songs of peace and hope from the new CD.
The title track, "Yes We Can" penned by one of Muldaur's favorite songwriters, New Orleans laureate Allen Toussaint, has been made into a Barack Obama campaign video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLVXxGMG3Fw.
Muldaur received a personal note from candidate Obama recently informing her of his appreciation - and that this song is being used now as an official campaign song at Obama events. Bonnie Raitt sings with Muldaur and plays slide guitar on this track.
