Very lucky day in Chinese culture!
The main reason has to do with the pronunciation of the word for the number 8 in China. It is pronounced "ba" and sounds like the word for prosperity which is pronounced "fa".
In China you have to pay extra to have the number 8 in your phone number or license plate.
On the date 08/08/08 there is predicted to be a record number of weddings, even surpassing the number of weddings on 07/07/07.

My daughter, was in a wedding yesterday... Toni and Joe were married on 08/08/08 at 8pm. They actually had the wedding at a winery, so they had the cocktail hour first, and the ceremony after the partying had started... although, knowing Joe, I'm surprised they weren't married on 4/20! LOL

I read it was a very popular wedding day!
That's what we did at our winery wedding MamaR, we opened the bar before the ceremony so everyone had a glass in hand during the 5 minute ceremony :)
